I'm sorry, is it 1998?

I went shopping for the first time in ages today and these tops were everywhere. Took me right back to the 90's! I had a fine array of vest tops to put over my tee shirts but I think I'll give it a miss this time round - my very pert 34B kahunas are sadly no longer up to the strain. (Nor are they still 34B or pert Grin). Isn't it funny how fashions seem to roll back round again?

Oh I've never lost the love for crushed velvet. If I could wear crushed velvet head to toe without looking like a twat I would.

Does anyone remember these jeans with no waistband. I saw Mariah Carey with a pair on and nearly died with jealousy. This would have been late 90's I guess.

Crushed velvet dresses, short with long sleeves... In the 90s, your skirts had to be either mini or full length, anything in between was totally naff. Knee length worst of all...

What would we have thought if we had known?

At school we all used to roll our skirts up so they were comfortably above our knees, against uniform rules to have them just below. The girls there now wear them at the correct length. It's not because they're all suckers for rules now...

elQuintoConyo · 18/02/2017 20:31

Zara is currently wall-to-wall with those hideous tshirt/vest tops in the OP

I hate artfully ripped Levi 501s with homemade red paisley knee patches sewn on the inside Grin what a massive dork!

I also tried to dress like Axel Rose Blush

PoorYorick · 18/02/2017 20:34

I've just remembered drawing yin and yang signs on pretty much everything I owned, including my jeans.. .did anyone else do that?

Notonyournellly · 18/02/2017 20:36

Poncy vintage shops have been selling shell suit tops for a little while now, I have seen quite a few teenagers wearing them Shock

DD 21 has been eyeing up droopy mid-calf length floral button front dresses on vintage clothes sites, the sort of thing last seen on Midsomer Murders in the 1990s

Hedgehog80 · 18/02/2017 20:39

I loved my denim shorts and white vest combo in 1994........until DM helped dsis (6 years younger than me) cut her jeans and then let her wear a little girly white lace trimmed vest as she wanted to look the same as me ! 😡

I also had a navy floral dress I wore over a white shirt sleeves body and a long black floral button through skirt I wore with dms a body and a waistcoat....accessorised with some sun and moon jewellery, heather shimmer lipstick and body glitter. I looked AMAZING, sadly any photos from that time do not reflect this. I blame the photographer entirely

MrsJayy · 18/02/2017 20:40

Yes i was all about the ying and yang Grin Dd2 is partial to crushed velvet she has dresses and skirts

PoorYorick · 18/02/2017 20:40

Denim shorts and white vest? Beyonce wore that in the Crazy in Love video....

WhiskeySourpuss · 18/02/2017 20:50

Oh I had a lovely silvery/lilac crushed velvet shirt which I wore with a choker.... & a matching hair band Blush

Also had a few satiny strappy dresses which could easily pass for a negligee that I wore with white patent wedge mules

I was more a birthday suit lipstick girl... it looked fab god awful with my extremely pale skin & blonde hair courtesy of sun in

Missbumble · 18/02/2017 20:59

Makes me laugh! I used to work in a big chain retailer for clothing and was always chuckling at the "new fashion" according to the younger girls, Its just repeats! keep it all stashed away I'd say for use when its back "in" but I'd either be too old or too fat to wear it Grin

I wore that too and also looked amazing. No photographs exist so it must be true.

DH and I sat the in the window of a town centre coffee shop last Saturday and commented on how 90s all the girls looked. High waisted jeans with big belts and rips. Crop tops or bodies with short jackets.

TheFirstMrsDV · 18/02/2017 21:01

Oh yes to cargo pants!
I didn't wear jeans for a decade because of those (and the previously mentioned spandex flares).

I loved them low slung with a vest. We all though we were All Saints Grin

MrsJayy · 18/02/2017 21:20

I was way to frumpy for cargo pants and vest tops

pissedglitter · 18/02/2017 21:22

I walked into primark recently and found the exact dress I wore to my sisters engagement party in 1994
I declared a bit too loudly that I couldn't remember buying a DeLorean or doing 88mph

TheCakes · 18/02/2017 21:24

I still own the strappy vest top I wore clubbing on my 21st. I'm on a big weight loss kick. I can't wait to put it on again.
Might treat myself to some new, massive wide combats to wear it with.

TheCakes · 18/02/2017 21:26

Today I've been wearing a dungaree dress and stone roses T-shirt. Had to remind myself it's not 1994 and I'm not 17.
Then reminded myself I couldn't care less.

Diamondsandpurls · 18/02/2017 21:28

Surely to complete the look it needs WAREHOUSE on the t-shirt?

Graphista · 18/02/2017 21:30

Pissedglitter pic?

TheCakes · 18/02/2017 21:36

How random - I was just thinking about WAREHOUSE t-shirts today.

Missbumble · 18/02/2017 21:48

I recently bought a velvet choker to wear on a night out.. note to self I do NOT look like a member of little mix Blush

FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 18/02/2017 21:56

I must admit I've found myself hankering after a brown lipstick recently...

pissedglitter · 18/02/2017 22:08

It was the 90's and I was 17
I was the coolest kid to walk into the pub that night hahaha

I'm sorry, is it 1998?
Graphista · 18/02/2017 22:08

Fabulous! Bet you looked great!

venusinscorpio · 18/02/2017 22:15

My favourite body (I bought it in '92 I think) was skin tight, slightly shiny and black, and had a little hood for total nineties style. Was from River Island.

I no longer have it Grin
