Flippin norks...

MaQueen · 30/01/2017 17:09

So, decided I needed a bit of an image overhaul to kick start 2017. I have been following a couple of style blogs littlefashioncloset & my fashionableforties, after someone recommended them on here.

I love how they style their clothes, and I love that they mainly wear black, grey, navy & taupe, and keep things simple. I ordered a few items they recommended, and an oversize, grey cardi from H&M arrived today.

They style it with a black, striped Breton or a blush pink, lacy camisole, black skinnies and biker boots.

Tried on the whole ensemble....and it would look great except for my bleddy 34G norks Angry. It completely passed me by, that these bloggers have no boobs so everything falls very stylishly on them.

In this oversized cardi and cami they manage to look pixie-petite and dainty...whereas, I just look matronly (I think?).

DH likes the camisole Hmm

Thing is I'm on heavy-duty HRT so there's little chance of my norks shrinking anytime soon, even if I diet.

You can get fake shoulders now? Shock

EIsbethTascioni · 31/01/2017 18:08

I think the key is to find something that suits you and buy eleventy billion of them.

I have about a dozen scoop neck, longer line tops, some striped and some plain, high waisted suck it all in jeans and walking boots (uggs but not the slipper ones). I've lived in that since about September.

I'll re-evaluate when the sun comes out.

HoneyDragon · 31/01/2017 18:09

Layering works differently I think depending on boob to waist ratio. My bf is 5 foot but wears a HH cup. She wears a 12 waist and is stuck wearing a 14 top because of boob.

She can look bigger than she is because of her boobs but she pulls off a horizontal stripe high neck top (boat neck or crew) with skinniest and a good blazer, fantastically, as it emphasises her little waist and skinny legs.

I tend to wear Breton tops or cropped tops over a long line vest with leggings to get the layered look. But I'm lucky and wear an eight to ten and will hopefully soon be back to a size eight due to occislating boobs and time at the gym. It's the best way around the layering look as it works even if you are thick waisted in the sense you're not hourglasses shaped.

Once I'm off the hormones I won't have to work as hard to get the body and the image I want, but I refuse to let the fuckers beat me.

EIsbethTascioni · 31/01/2017 18:10

I've also learned that scarves and accessories make me look like a middle aged frump, rather than stylish and pulled together which is what I always hope for.

EIsbethTascioni · 31/01/2017 18:12

Oh, and oddly my favourite going out top is a size 8 boyfriend style gold jumper with a very low cut neckline. When I was a size 8 with no boobs it was almost indecent. Now I'm a size 14 with norkage it is a fitted top with a subtle bit of cleavage that clings in all the right places.

It's a miracle top.

ThinkPinkStink · 31/01/2017 18:20

Just to say "AMEN SISTERS".

I'm a young looking 37 (was referred to as a 'young mother' by someone who didn't know better recently), I like clothes and fabrics and fashion. But I have a massive
Flesh Shelf of breast which aside from blocking the actual sun makes me look both manly how? and matronly. AND I DONT EVEN LIKE V NECKS!! (I've been wearing round necks and a short, but statement, necklace, it has a similar effect).

Destinysdaughter · 31/01/2017 18:28

I really hate bras that are padded. My boobs are big enough already, I don't want my bra to make them look even bloody bigger!!

Laiste · 31/01/2017 18:29

and so many in the bigger cups sizes are destiny aren't they?!

M&S seem to be buggers for this.

Oblomov17 · 31/01/2017 18:42

I agree, big boobs here, no good following these fashion ideas of 30 year old twiggy types.

Finding a good bra is hard too. Most are really thin material. This is not the look I want, when I'm at work.

Flippin norks...

That cardi is RANK!!

Where the fuck were you when I was being tactful? Grin

KanyesVest · 31/01/2017 19:46

Another boob shelfer here (30/32 G/GG and only 5ft 2). I hadn't realised it, but I do exactly the same with long vests. Even though I'm short, my boobs seem to steal all the fabric so things pull up. I've found the merino round neck jumpers from uniqlo good - they are wider than round and sit very nicely under everything (I'm terminally cold so need warm layers). V necks make me look like an unfashionable 70 year old. For bras, my go-to is a twin pack from gorgeous at debenhams. They are two layers of fabric so don't get too nippley, but not padded. Colour pairings are ridiculous though in the packs.

Toohardtofindaproperusername · 31/01/2017 21:10

I've found my people Grin
34g. Nightmare of trying to attempt trendy/funky at 50. Just spent over £200 on pepper berry. It all looked soooo matronly. Why are pepper berry selling round necks, high necks and all such crappy material .... Are they part owned by m & s? It's all going back... It's like the never ending story trying to find decent tops/clothes.
Ahhh ... It's nice to share the pain...
Anybody found anything like pepper berry elsewhere.? There's a gap in the market

buckeejit · 31/01/2017 21:26

We need a support group! I've been trying to not love things that won't suit me forever but it's so hard.

As well as big boobs I have big hips so nothing ever feels quite right! I need low cut casual tops-sounds easy but totes not.

SomewhereNow · 31/01/2017 21:32

This thread is a revelation! I'm short (5'2 ish) as well as booby but had never worked out that's why tops always seem to ride up and leave my (not that small either) midriff on display Confused. I live in longline vests but it's hardly a glamorous look!

PacificDogwod · 31/01/2017 21:32

34G here too - or was as losing weight has actually reduced my norkage. Sadly, has emphasised the droopiness Hmm

Anyhoo, I would suggest you look for more fitted clothes in good quality fabrics and tuck you in and skim you in all the right places.
I'm a new convert to Baukjen and their rushed top.
Adeline top is fabulous Grin

Bras? Fauve. Lov'em. They are expensive but doable on Brastop.com.

PacificDogwod · 31/01/2017 21:36

Pepperberry is shite!!

Adeline - sale seems to have finished, sorry.

Also, look at St Bustier

LiefieLiefie · 31/01/2017 21:51

Warehouse crew neck jumpers are absolutely spot on.

Drape and flatter in the right areas without being clingy.

KanyesVest · 31/01/2017 21:54

St Bustier is gorgeous. I wish I got to see real people more often and had a reason to wear nice clothes...

PacificDogwod · 31/01/2017 21:58

Kanyes, yes, me too.
I just gaze adoringly and longingly at the Nigella dress, imagining where I could wear it to...
Ah well, I can dream

woodhill · 31/01/2017 22:12

I'm slim with narrow shoulders 30e cup but starting to look busty, scoop necks good but bought a nude modal scoop neck phase 8 top but it is too clingy so seems to magnify my boobs.

Everything is high necked

AntideluvianCat · 31/01/2017 22:16

Ugh. I too am suffering a huge bazongas / mid-life style crisis... bought a lovely A-line silver skirt recently, which I haven't worn as I can't find the right top.

Please could you link to the blush pink camisole (or tell me where from)? Sounds just the ticket

Merci Smile

BearFoxBear · 31/01/2017 22:34

I'm not alone!!! Grin

I'm 34FF, size 16 (just), with a post cs belly. I am an hourglass with slim legs though, which just about saves me, but if I don't hoist those norks I look like a postbox.

My style needs to change from vintage 40s/50s to something suitable for chasing a crazy toddler about, but it's tricky.

Oh and I bloody hate v necks!
