Flippin norks...

So, decided I needed a bit of an image overhaul to kick start 2017. I have been following a couple of style blogs littlefashioncloset & my fashionableforties, after someone recommended them on here.

I love how they style their clothes, and I love that they mainly wear black, grey, navy & taupe, and keep things simple. I ordered a few items they recommended, and an oversize, grey cardi from H&M arrived today.

They style it with a black, striped Breton or a blush pink, lacy camisole, black skinnies and biker boots.

Tried on the whole ensemble....and it would look great except for my bleddy 34G norks Angry. It completely passed me by, that these bloggers have no boobs so everything falls very stylishly on them.

In this oversized cardi and cami they manage to look pixie-petite and dainty...whereas, I just look matronly (I think?).

DH likes the camisole Hmm

Thing is I'm on heavy-duty HRT so there's little chance of my norks shrinking anytime soon, even if I diet.

PEPPERBERRY ARE SOOOO DISAPPOINTING!!!!

Such a fucking missed opportunity...Angry

Destinysdaughter · 01/02/2017 00:25

I feel like my boobs dominate my life at times Like I always have to think about them whether I'm exercising, going on holiday, dancing, dating, etc, I always have to factor them in if you know what I mean?

schnubbins · 01/02/2017 06:22

Its the high necks on all tops , blouses , dresses that are really getting me down lately. Its like there is only one pattern for all manufacturers.I tried on a few blouses in Zara before Christmas and I looked like I had been strung up.Dont know why I even bother going in there anyway as everything is also too short .The waistline is under my boobs in most cases and sleeves half way up my arms.I look like a child that has had an overnight growth spurt.
Really frustrating just trying to get some pretty clothes.

TheLittleFoxes · 01/02/2017 17:07

I went to buy some clothes today and was horrified to realise my 30F bra was far too small - I saw myself in the mirror and was Shock. I scuttled off to Bravissimo and was fitted for two t-shirt bras - 30GG 😭. The new bras do a great job of lifting and separating but I look like I'm smuggling the heads of Phil and Grant Mitchell under my top.

IJustLostTheGame · 01/02/2017 17:19

28g norker here.
I find tops and cardigans from Collectif fit well on my bust. I don't do the 50s bombshell look at all, you can wear the shirts and things with normal clothes and you don't look throwback.
They are overpriced unless they are in the sale though.

ClaudiaWinklepants · 01/02/2017 17:57

I'm having this nightmare too. I'm a 34g and currently shopping for tops to wear with shorts for our Florida holiday. They need to be cool, comfortable, covering and not letting my norks be the focus of every photo 😫. I can't wear the same black v neck t shirt for 2 weeks.

I see st Bustier have vest tops with built in bras but alas, not in my size. Will keep looking...

oobedobe · 01/02/2017 19:34

Another one with this issue, so conflicted about buying 'fashion' looks which I know make me look fatter and/or 6 months pregnant. But constantly looking for scoop or v-necks is soul destroying.

I find I can get away with some higher necks if I pair with a pendant necklace to draw the eye down.

I love a US shop called LOFT but even though their sizing is really good for curvy women, more often than not the style is aimed at flat-chested waifs, so i can only buy the odd thing from there.

SweetChickadee · 01/02/2017 19:53

God it's a bloody nightmare, isn't it? Do I want to look like my Nan or a streetwalker today.. ?? Hmm, tricky...

I just lost 20 lb and when I went to Bravissimo last month I found I'd gone from a 34FF to a 34G

so that was nice Hmm

Destinysdaughter · 01/02/2017 19:54

I used to find it really distressing that I couldnt wear fashionable clothes when I was younger.I'm 50 now and thankfully don't feel that pressure any more! I just wear what suits me, in flattering colours and get my enjoyment from nice shoes and jewellery.

RemusLupinsChristmasMovie · 01/02/2017 19:55

32FF here.

Having spouted off about how vile Pepperberry stuff is for years, I've recently bought three things from them - a plain black dress, a plain black top and a black printed top. I don't 'do' cleavage but all three are low cut and quite flattering - according to dp anyway - so I'm going to bare a little more and see if anybody dies.

Generally I find plain black scoop neck tops are my saviours.

SweetChickadee · 01/02/2017 19:59

I have a couple of wide scoop necked blouses and my boobs vanish in them, they're ace

MaQueen · 01/02/2017 19:59

Anti the blush camisole is from Zara and is currently in the sale. It feels and looks much more expensive than it actually is.

Though I did have to shorten the straps by about 2 inches, because I'm very narrow on the shoulders and the bottom of the v-neck was nearly touching my navel...

Destinysdaughter · 01/02/2017 20:00

I used to wear black all the time, mainly to disguise my boobs but since I had my colours done ( Autumn ), I don't wear it any more, don't let your boobs stop you enjoying colour!

RemusLupinsChristmasMovie · 01/02/2017 20:02

I like black. Grin

MaQueen · 01/02/2017 20:13

Bizarrely, a slash/boat neck is flattering on me. I think it creates the illusion of wider shoulders thereby minimising the norks slightly. Standard crew necks make me look hideous. A cowl neck makes me look like a 70s art teacher.

I've never dabbled with shirts...but noticed some nice, slightly slinky fabric ones, with v-neck (fucking obviously) from Zara, that could be flattering.

I'm desperate for a leopard print coat, my friend has one and looks amazing in it...but she's 5ft 9" and frankly skinny. I know I'll just look like Bet Lynch in one Sad Will content myself with leopard print ballet flats instead.

I tried a 'normal' bra on earlier, just a plain t-shirt one...and my boobs looked dreadful. They were on the same latitude as my elbows, and just merged into my stomach, creating a huge amorphous bloat effect.

Basically, I need a proper whale-bone corset to oomph the norks and nip in the waist by 6 inches.

And don't even get me started on feckin padded, feckin bras in feckin larger cup sizes...WTAF???

TheLittleFoxes · 01/02/2017 20:21

I asked for a t shirt bra today and she gave me a padded one. I keep looking at myself In the mirror (with my top up) and cringing at how fucking enormous my boobs look. They look abnormal. I need to lose well over a stone so perhaps the baps will shrink a bit if I manage that. I don't have any good bits: wobbly arms, wobbly baggy tum, massive hips and thunder thighs. Maybe my next purchase should be a sports bra.

MaQueen · 01/02/2017 20:35

I don't have a waist or hips - essentially, I go straight down in a perpendicular line from my armpits to me ankles...with two ridiculous norks jutting out. I'm shaped like a ladyboy, but nowhere near as pretty...

OP posts:
crunched · 01/02/2017 20:51

I love my 36Gs!
If anyone suggests a minimiser to me Shock.

TheLittleFoxes · 01/02/2017 20:55

Can I ask what brand/type of bras everyone favours?

I got two Panache Porcelain Elan bras today. I've had to take the one I was wearing off, it's so uncomfortable and digging be into the part where the top of my breast and armpit meet. I'm takin big the other one back. They were £36 each too.

I like Debenhams Gorgeous bras but the style I like doesn't come in a 30 back anymore.

GieryFas · 01/02/2017 21:03

TheLittleFoxes I like Freya / Fantasie (same manufacturer) and they mostly go down to a 28 back.

I've had some luck with Uniqlo, the tops are long enough to and stretchy enough to accommodate the norks without giving me a massive 'sail' of material at the back (I have the narrow shoulders combined with G cups issue).

I also tried on a dress by Ghost (encouraged by a friend, it wasn't my usual style or price range) and it fitted beautifully, and will full bra coverage, even under the arms. So if anyone's looking for a special occasion dress, that's definitely a brand that's worth a look.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 01/02/2017 21:34

I just want to say, No MINIMISERS! They aren't very flattering, they aren't particularly good for you and we should be proud of what we have, no matter what shape it is!

However, for the large of nork (I am a 32GG/H on a slim size 12, 5ft 7 frame) a v-neck top looks most flattering, polo necks looks dreadful and thin layers works better than big bulky knits. Anything frilly will look a bugger. Printed trousers and a plain top looks the most balanced, for me.

YakiUdonYumYum · 01/02/2017 21:37

My staple, go-to bra brand is Fantasie. Weirdly, Freya bras really cut into me at the front and I can't stand them.

However, I have just bought some Debenhams Gorgeous bras, super cheap, in their sale, absolute bargain (and matching pants). They also had lots of Curvy Kate bras but sadly they seem to fit me as well as Freya bras Sad

I did see some Debenhams t-shirt bras that were not padded in the sale too - they were kinda double lined, but definitely no foamy padding. Pink and blush two pack.

StatisticallyChallenged · 01/02/2017 22:24

30/32J ish crazy bra lady checking in

I've given up and taught myself to sew, sick fed up of not being able to find stuff to fit!

PacificDogwod · 01/02/2017 22:37

I don't have a waist or hips

Ah, but with a good bra and well-fitted top you can make curves Grin

Fauve is my favourite brand and Brastop makes them affordable. Well, -ish.
But then again, I wear them until they fall apart...

BobbinThreadbare123 · 01/02/2017 22:41

PacificDogwod, those Fauve bras look great! I've never heard of them so thank you for that link.
