Continuing from the previous thread. It's always so lovely to see new posters come and talk perfume. Everyone is welcome. Come and tell us your SOTD ( scent of the day) or ask us anything perfumey. Someone will know the answer! Get stuck in and get sniffing. You'll find no snobbery here!

The interesting thing about T&V...my youngest daughter snuggles up to me and says " Mummy you smell just like tea!" My oldest daughter steals a pinch before school and says people stop her all the time to ask what she is wearing.

Stopyourhavering · 11/11/2016 15:52

Oo I'm always on lookout for new scents.....I have so many!!( Chanel 19/5 Christalle)
I love Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir and Ginger and Nutmeg especially for autumn/ winter
I also discovered Miller Harris Tea Tonique which is gorgeous and would like to buy another one , but haven't got anywhere close that stocks it and don't want to buy on line before smelling it!... Will have to wait till I'm up in Edinburgh at Christmas and get it at the airport!!... Can anyone suggest another Miller Harris perfume?

MontanaSkies · 11/11/2016 16:02

I heard somewhere that cedar scents often smells like fresh pencil shavings, so if anything that reminds me of my school pencil case (and yes I see this as a good thing Grin) I think "cedar!"

SOTD is Tommy Girl. Brings back oh so many memories of my first year at uni. I saw a cheap bottle in a discount chemist last week and had to have it. It's actually still lovely, a light tea floral scent.

OCSockOrphanage · 11/11/2016 16:04

You have found your people Stop. We are famous as shameless enablers!

Miller Harris favourites are the Terre d'Iris and Petitgrain, but it's a big range; like the sound of Tea Tonique.

May have to brush past the Tom Ford counter for a quick squizz on my next trip to town.

OCSockOrphanage · 11/11/2016 16:39

I think I may have a spray vial of the Infusion d'Iris lurking in my scent drawer Vintage... may I enable you to compare it to the PP?

BaronessBomburst · 11/11/2016 19:59

You naughty, naughty Sock! Grin

Remember how I declared Miller Harris La Fumée Arabie to be my Holy Grail? Well, I haven't worn it since. Like so many times when you fall in love quickly, I fell out again quickly. Come the evening it had started to smell like Lynx Moscow, (thanks DH) just sort of vanillary and musky.
Anyway, for SOTD yesterday I gave it another try. I do like it, and it didn't turn into Lynx this time, but it didn't excite me like it did the first time around. It's got the smoke and cumin of L'aire du Desert Marocain but none of the sweetness.
So SOTD today was LADM as a comparison.
Tauer wins. It's more complex, more layered, sweeter, and more feminine. I would love, love, love a FB of this. I applied it sparingly this morning as my tester is nearly empty but 13 hours later and I can still smell it. It's a perfume that makes you feel wonderful. It's confident, sexy, beautiful, capable, elegant, and just different.

AnotherPinkiePieStory · 11/11/2016 20:08

montana I was also a tommy girl. Happy memories of summer holidays from school.
baroness I am intrigued by your second thoughts on la fumee Arabia as I'm waiting for my sample!
stop and other poster. Yum to pomegranate noir. Love it. One year I bought a perfume oil copy and made xmas presents with it. Really fab copy too and always my xmas smell now. Perhaps santa will bring me a candle too?

SuckingEggs · 12/11/2016 00:42

Calmina, thank you! Sounds intriguing. May whip the wrapping off tomorrow.

I've also got L'artisan Nuit de Tubereuse wrapped up. Any thoughts?

SOTD Coco - yum.

FrustratedFrugal · 12/11/2016 09:17

I like Nuits de Tubereuse and have a sample somewhere. Tuberose is extremely polarizing but I love it.

We have about a foot of snow around here and I am wearing Coromandel every day.

FrustratedFrugal · 12/11/2016 09:18

And Coco coming up next - for me, it's the ultimate November perfume.

MontanaSkies · 12/11/2016 11:01

pinkie Nice to hear there are other Tommy Girls here Smile

baroness OK, I have become obsessed with trying LADDM now. Will see if I can order a sample! I see how enabling this thread is...

SOTD is Chanel 19 Poudrée. Very different from my beloved 19,but I'm wearing a black jumper and it seems to "go" with soft black wool somehow Confused

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 12/11/2016 15:37

Now I know this is a horrendous thing to bring up, but does anyone here like Angel?(I hate it, but I seem to have nabbed a few samples that were just lying about in HOF. ) sending some to dd (with proviso she doesn't wear it home ) but there s 2 sample bottles if anyone. Wants them. PM me.
Soto was caleche, nope not for me. But had big squirt of Santal Royale by guerlain. Oh it's lovely.

BaronessBomburst · 12/11/2016 17:21

No, I didn't like Caleche either. It's old fashioned and soapy. The dry down is pretty though. I let DS wear my sample.
SOTD is Incense Rose. Tauer again. I adore it but DH will complain and say that I smell like a church. If church had smelled like that when I was a kid I'd have gone willingly and just sat there and inhaled.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 12/11/2016 18:18

Sorry to renege on my offer of the foul angel, realised it's hair perfume, so sent it all to dd.
Can we chat about men's scents? (Not the ones we Nick, but what we'd like our men to smell of?) I like dh in Chanel for gentlemen, or wonder wood by comme de garçons. Ds1 when he wears it is partial to Dirty from Lush and 2 will wear owt, likes the lynx pump scents.

BaronessBomburst · 12/11/2016 19:08

DS likes Lynx Tobacco and Amber and Tauer Lonesome Rider. I actually don't like the Lonesome Rider but there are worse smells to hit you when you open a gym bag. Grin

DH won't wear scent at all which I think is a shame. Rules it out as an easy Christmas present too.

VintagePerfumista · 12/11/2016 19:37

Antaeus or Kouros. Grin

One of the loves of my life wore green lynx.

The other month, I was walking past a bloke, and he smelled so incredible, and it reminded me of something I wanted to run after him and ask him but realised it would have been very inappropriate.

As you may imagine, I love soapy old Caleche, (it's also my Mum's signature) myself, and don't mind Angel (although prefer its much cheaper smellalike Byblos Cielo which I have an enormous bottle of- this is what dd calls my going to the airport perfume - think I must have had another ginormous bottle at some point left at my Mum's, so whenever we went down to the airport to come back here I had a squirt- like L'Heure Bleue is my Stansted squirt of choice!)

I went for Miss Dior originale this morning, and skankypant Diorella just now. Am on hunt for a bargainous ebay full bottle of old stuff I think. I had a lovely time yesterday helping someone in America (I think) date a bottle of Diorama she had picked up from somewhere, she thought it was maybe 80s but it definitely wasn't. I'd say more like 60s if not earlier. It was fab, one of the amphora things they reintroduced briefly all in a velvet three sided opening box thing. (this is why I went for Dior today)

Speaking of, I have a hankering for Diorling- after reading yesterday's scent description. Has anyone ever tried it? Apparently flowers and leather?

VintagePerfumista · 12/11/2016 19:49

Just checked the perfume page I follow and the lady has had the Diorama dated as 1949. It was totally sealed still and is Baccarat crystal. Wow.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 12/11/2016 21:00

I know what I do have, some 70s Dioressence talc. (Was a present for my dm from dfs first wife, who regifted everything) never used, none on eBay, I think I want to sell. But where and how much?
I'm sending the Caleche (well, it was pp) to dd with the foul Angel.
I was wearing pp boulevard st germaine yesterday, so many compliments.

OCSockOrphanage · 14/11/2016 09:29

Happy Monday to all perfumistas everywhere. Just bumping as we had dropped to page 3, knocked off our front page spot by the discussion of perfume storage. Mine live in drawers and cupboards BTW, in boxes if I have one, and in the dark.

Today, I lean toward Elixir de Merveilles or Vetiver Tonka (again) because either seems to work with autumn's quiet mistiness; hope it will burn off later.

VintagePerfumista · 14/11/2016 09:33

In honour of whatfuckery's talc I am in Dioressence.

Miss Dior yesterday, Diorella Saturday and now Dioressence. Every day I decide that one is my favourite of the Big 3 and then tomorrow comes!

AnotherPinkiePieStory · 14/11/2016 14:08

OC yeah that was odd thread. I store mine either in box in dark wardrobe, shiny ones on mirrored dressing table and then dotted anywhere: glove compartment, handbag, by front door, downstairs loo. As Carrie said about Samantha's partners in sex and the city, "I don't think we're in single figures anymore"!
SOTD M&S New York. Never been but if it smells like this, I reckon I'd like it! Does anyone know what it's meant to be a copy of because I remember someone saying that all m&s house perfumes are dupes? Thanks

OCSockOrphanage · 14/11/2016 14:31

It got a bit heated, for an uncontroversial thread.

Second slug of Vetiver Tonka, to mask the pong of fox scats. SockDog rolled and it is not pleasant. She has been cleaned and had her collar scrubbed.

Can't answer re M&S perfume dupes but their collaboration with Miller Harris was good while it lasted. New York itself smells of traffic and everything else encountered in big cities.

BaronessBomburst · 14/11/2016 14:57

Googling suggests that New York is a dupe of Chanel Allure, although M&S Sensual is also supposed to be Allure.
Reviewers of Fragrantica seem to agree that it smells like a modern Chanel or Donna Karan Soft Cashmere.
I used to have M&S Sensual. It was a blind buy from the days when they still delivered abroad. It was very nice but not me so I gave it to MIL.

SOTD is vintage Arpege.
My LADDM sample is finished!
Noooooo! Sad

AnotherPinkiePieStory · 14/11/2016 16:09

Thank you baroness you keep me right. Didn't think I liked Allure but love the soft fug I'm giving off today. Definitely no diesely undertones!

FrustratedFrugal · 14/11/2016 16:47

Sorry I have neglected this thread as the other one was, um, more though-proviking Wink

I have a head cold so I cannot smell a thing. DH wore his Ajmal oudh that stinks like camel dung - I registered nothing. I wore Coromandel to work - nada. And have just squirted a near-lethal dose of Coco on my wrist - nope, my nose isnot working.

I love vintage Diors. I really like Dioressence (and would love to purchase a mini) but I do not use talc. It sounds decadent though! I think I have some Diorling somewhere but could not find it - I finished one of my vintage Diors recently and binned the vial, but I think it was Miss Dior.
