Continuing from the previous thread. It's always so lovely to see new posters come and talk perfume. Everyone is welcome. Come and tell us your SOTD ( scent of the day) or ask us anything perfumey. Someone will know the answer! Get stuck in and get sniffing. You'll find no snobbery here!

I accidentally bought a mini Diorella yesterday....I knew I was "watching" a mini and a FB on ebay, both .de. MIL was here to see the new house so was in a housewiferly flap, dashed to the laptop, saw Diorella 1 minute and bid on the wrong one. Pffft.

Am now about to bid on the right one, the FB.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 14/11/2016 18:02

Cheers Perfumista, no bids on it though. I might stick it on for less and see how it goes.
Today I felt like something huge and in yer face so was very generous with my pp Portrait of a Lady, just a big swagger in a bottle.

VintagePerfumista · 14/11/2016 18:06

Oh definitely stick it on for less. Things on ebay generally go for what they are worth, and that talc is not worth that, no matter how scrumptious or vintage.

I didn't win the FB of Diorella which went for only £2 more than the mini I "won" yesterday. Humph.

NotAMammy · 14/11/2016 19:40

After some sniffing at the weekend I think I love Jo Malone Nectarine Blossom and honey. I am aware that this probably marks me out for having cheap and juvenile nosebuds. But, can anyone recommend anything similar or what to layer it with?
I love the lightness and then the warmth of the honey.

PinkissimoAndPearls · 14/11/2016 19:44

I've found you again!

Goodness, that perfume storage thread was a bit...weird! Some odd folk about, for sure.

Well, my perfume parlour Sycamore arrived and I am surprised...it smells (to my inexpert nose) exactly like Gloria, which I think was possibly Cacharel (?) and certainly discontinued now. It's also very faint, I was expecting a big hit over the head with a tree trunk!

So I am little disappointed, and wonder if anyone else has any PP recommendations (as that's all my budget will stretch to atm, sadly!) I would like something wintery, I want something that is the scent equivalent of a nice warm velvety blanket...something cosy but still a nice big hit of something gorgeous...any ideas oh wise ones?

I would probably be better using my limited funds for a decant/sample of something £££ but I want to be able to spray with abandon, not eke something out Smile

VintagePerfumista · 15/11/2016 18:25

Bumping us up because we have slipped down again.

(and have competition in the equally-as-bonkers-as-the-storage-thread thread about perfumes with sillage- I wonder why people open threads on perfume just to say "don't wear them please I get a headache" I don't open threads about, say, skirts and say "oooh don't, they make my knees look knobbly")

Anyhoooo. PP Femme last night in bed. Something lovely and rich but fag-ashy about it. Reminiscent of the fagashy bit of Amarige!

Today, like yesterday Miss Dior.

Have ordered my London based friend into Liberty to smell Musc Ravageur (sp?) as Frugal mentioned it on the other thread, so I need to know what it's like now. My friend is very obedient and will go tomorrow and report back!

BaronessBomburst · 15/11/2016 18:56

I haven't seen either of the other perfume threads yet.
that's my evening sorted. Sorry DH
SOTD was modern Arpege to contrast with yesterday's vintage version.

VisionsofJohanna · 15/11/2016 19:38

Hello! Relatively new here (I have only posted previously about my dog getting spayed Confused) but glad to have found you.

Stuck at home in bed ill at the moment and evaluating my perfumes seemed like a good idea. I wear the below in rotation:

Cartier Panthère (day-evening)
Prada Iris (day)
Tom Ford Black Orchid (evening)
Diptyque L'Ombre dans l'eau (day)

All half used and I'd love to add something new to the Christmas list... I appreciate these might all be quite different but I'm hoping there's a common theme? Definitely not citrus? Quite powdery?

The only perfume I've ever not been able to stomach is Guerlain's L'Heure Bleu, which smells alkaline/flat to me.

Most Jo Malones are out as every time I wear one my MIL buys the same thing Hmm

Thanks in advance

Calminaqualm · 15/11/2016 21:27

The Savers chain of shops are still selling Prada Infusion d'Iris, 100 mls, for £34.99. They are busy promoting all the Ghost flankers and Burberrys in our local branch, but I noticed they still had some Prada left on the top shelf. I find it such a gentle classy scent.

didireallysaythat · 15/11/2016 22:16

Ok. Newbie here so forgive my uncultured nose for scents, and embrace the fact I'm here, trying to learn ?

I like basil, mandarin and lime but would like it more if it lasted more than 5 minutes.

I like Liz Earle botanical 15 (the beige bottle) even more, but again I don't think it lasts.

What else might I like ? These two seem similar to me, but I'm not a perfume expert. Yet. !

RosieLig · 15/11/2016 22:37

didireallysaythat - you sound similar to me! I also like Jo Malone 154 and Acqua di Parma, the orange one. I'm look at eau d'Hermes but not tried it yet....

VintagePerfumista · 16/11/2016 06:09

Oooh lovely new perfumistas we can enable! Welcome!

I don't really know any of the ones you mention, except the LE, which I love, I love all of hers, especially the first one.

I guess none of them have much staying power because they sound a bit light and cologne-y? I know Jo Malone's perfumes are well known for being very very light on the sillage front.

Have you tried the Perfume Parlour dupes? They are oil based so might last longer. I guess they do JM dupes, but haven't looked.

Visions of Johanna (fab name, it should also be a perfume name, I'd buy it just for the name!) I love the Iris (since last week when I first tried the PP dupe lol) and Black Orchid knocked my socks off, in a good way when I had a squirt at the airport. Oddly the slightly medicinal kick to it reminded me a bit of L'Heure Bleue! Coromandel has that medicine-y thing happening if you want to spend £££££s (or buy a decant!)

I went to bed in PP Nahema. Bleaurgh. Well, no, that's unfair, it's nice. It's sweet and of course, it's powdery. Where they get the "rose" from though I don't know. I'd never have picked rose up in a million years. (maybe it's PP and it's a bad dupe) It's classier than the ubiquitous pink sweet smells coming from teenagers at the moment, but I shan't be wearing it again.

VisionsofJohanna · 16/11/2016 10:34

VintagePerfumista thank you! I'll have a look at Coromandel. Any suggestions on good decant sources? Apologies if I missed this earlier in thread/other thread.

OCSockOrphanage · 16/11/2016 14:41

Hi, and welcome, to new chums. This thread has already got links to some decant sources. I have recently been using scentsamples.uk.com, but have also used a vendor in Germany recommended by Frugal and Perfumed Court which is in the US.

Most colognes don't last very long. My favourite citrus is Escale a Paraty (Dior) which has a belt of tonka bean that floats my boat and which seems to give it a bit of heft.

AgeingArtemis · 16/11/2016 15:36

Just found this thread!

I wore Tommy Girl 10 as my only perfume as a teenager, but when it ran out I couldn't seem to "settle" on another perfume as my "signature" so bought various perfumes, which I all liked but none I loved enough to rebuy and stop looking for something better. I have definitely grown out of the Tommy girl though, so I'm not looking for something similar!

Currently I'm wearing Fragonard Fleur d'oranger, which I sometimes adore, and sometimes only like, rather than love, depending on my mood. My mum was given acqua di parma iris nobile by a wealthy client, but she always wears Chance Chanel so sometimes when I am at her house I sometimes nick a spray of it. Again, I think it's really nice, but I wouldn't sell my soul for it.

In the middle of the night in Qatar airport duty free I tried TF Neroli Portofino. Drat. I love it. I can't afford it. I'm considering buying the PP dupe (would you recommend the oils or the spray from PP?) but I feel very guilty buying "fake" perfumes.... If it was 70 quid then I would grit my teeth and buy it (still waaay more than I would normally spend) but 150 pounds for 50ml is daft money for a student! Envy

If the PP dupe doesn't hit the spot, what other perfumes would you recommend? I suspect I will probably like the acqua di parma colonias, but they aren't exactly cheap either, where can I find them to try? Anything else? I've discovered I like quite unisex scents- I was given a tester of Lacoste Noir for men and although I don't think I could pull off wearing it, I did enjoy the smell

FrustratedFrugal · 16/11/2016 15:47

If you want to buy a genuine TF but balk at the price, consider the beard oil. Read this first.

SOTD Eau Lente, Diptyque. Recovering from a head cold. This provides just the right amount of swaddling and coddling, a soft spicy smolder.

AnotherPinkiePieStory · 16/11/2016 16:04

Hi new folks, you're in good hands! I joined as a newbie about 3 months ago and these guys have taught me so much!
Including perfume parlour which is awesome and I just had a huge order of Jo malone copies. Some amazing; sage one and amber one. Some not so sure; orange blossom (sorry Notamammy ) and I loved lime basil one didireally. It even lasts longer than real thing but I recommend sprays as the roll on hurts my wrists as quite scratchy. I sound like a wee delicate flower but to me it detracts from whole lovely experience of perfume.

I liked neroli pp dupe too ageing but I used to wear neroli body spray as I couldn't justify price of perfume and it's just as lovely.

pinkissomo I'm thinking of trying something ambery for that warm velvet hug and want the tobacco hit of miller Harris le fumee with a sweet amber flavour to soften it. Not sure if that exists but I'm going to order a few le fumee flankers to try.

madmomma · 16/11/2016 21:17

Ooh I like that beard oil tip frugal I wonder who sells it

madmomma · 16/11/2016 21:21

mammy I love the nectarine and honey layered with a guerlain grapefruit cologne, Burberry body, and it's also nice with my pomegranate noir body cream.

joangray38 · 16/11/2016 21:56

I bought the library of fragrance gingerbread and Christmas in New York. The bottles are very basic but the gingerbread does smell like warm gingerbread (not like the zoella knock off which smells very chemical and artificial) and the Christmas in nyc smells like petrol and flowers but in a nice way!

OCSockOrphanage · 17/11/2016 11:57

SoTD is Equistrius, a 10ml decant from Frugal's German source, which is disappearing fast! Up there with the Prada as my favourite iris, but this has a faint, comforting chocolate opening.

FrustratedFrugal · 17/11/2016 12:44

Beard oil - big department stores, here for example or try Harvey Nicks.

VintagePerfumista · 17/11/2016 13:47
Shock

I'm not growing a beard except post menopausally accidentally to put my scent in!

Is Frugal's German the scented flacon fella? Or is there someone else I need to know of? I was perusing Gerald this morning and wondering if you'd like to recommend me any of his based on you knowing I am a grand dame chypre/vintage/green kind of girl.

I had the ebay Vent Vert on this morning, very much lighter than the potent miniature I have which must be parfum. Think I need to hoover up other ebay miniatures as the EdT is very short lived.

I managed to grab a 15ml left in a big bottle auction of Givenchy III last night for £1.85. Happy days.

VintagePerfumista · 17/11/2016 13:51

crystal flacon.

FrustratedFrugal · 17/11/2016 14:11

He's the man! I have no special recommendations but his samples and decants are ace - let serendipity rule!
