Continuing from the previous thread. It's always so lovely to see new posters come and talk perfume. Everyone is welcome. Come and tell us your SOTD ( scent of the day) or ask us anything perfumey. Someone will know the answer! Get stuck in and get sniffing. You'll find no snobbery here!

Notamammy House of Fraser stores normally stock Annick Goutal.Failing that Beauty spin.co.uk will sell you very reasonably priced samples and full bottles if you wish.

ThirtySixViewsOfMountFuji · 07/11/2016 13:56

SOTD is PP Blue Sapphire layered with PP Tudor Rose and Amber - I put them together as there is a bit of an overlap in the notes and it's a yummy combination! Smile

NotAMammy · 07/11/2016 21:11

Thanks, I found them in Fenwicks. I wasn't a huge fan of the hadrian one, but the L'ile du The was very nice. I think I may have fallen for Van Cleef & Arpels California Rêverie though.

Dammit, why is the nice stuff always the most expensive?

Juicyfrooty · 08/11/2016 19:34

Hi there I hope you don't mind me popping onto your thread.

I want to get my mum some perfume but don't want to get one of her usual ones, I was hoping someone could suggest something nice based on a few of her current faves?

She likes Samsara, hypnotic poison, alien, deep red & insolence.

Thanks

ThirtySixViewsOfMountFuji · 08/11/2016 22:47

SOTD was a repeat of yesterday's layering (PP Blue Sapphire & Tudor Rose). I was teaching in a Year 3 class today and as I walked past one little girl, she suddenly got very excited and told me how lovely I smelled. She kept trying to hug and sniff me for the rest of the day - obviously a budding perfumista! Strangely enough, none of the other children were remotely bothered. When I got home, my Madonna Truth or Dare Naked had arrived and it is gorgeous - thanks for the recommendations Smile. It reminds me of good quality bourbon vanilla ice-cream and I can't stop sniffing my wrist! Such a comforting wintery fragrance.

BaronessBomburst · 09/11/2016 08:46

SOTD is Tauer Une Rose Chypree. Rose potpourri with a bitter, smokey undertone of bay which I didn't get when I wore it yesterday.
It is breathtakingly beautiful.

I actually find this more feminine, more elegant, more refined, and more rose than Frederic Maille Portrait of a Lady, which is just too pink, too jammie dodger, too raspberry marshmallow tea cake by comparison.

Cockblocktopus · 09/11/2016 09:32

Nice Baroness, I'd like to try that.

SOTD was cafe rose. Glad I didn't buy the FB as it was all gone in 4 hours which I think is unacceptable in scent that price.

FrustratedFrugal · 09/11/2016 10:26

I've been up since the very early hours to follow the US elections.
Eating Chocolate and wearing Coromandel to comfort myself Sad

OCSockOrphanage · 09/11/2016 10:30

I have been listening to the radio since very early too. I chose Black as today's SOTD.

MontanaSkies · 09/11/2016 11:58

Well Baroness you've totally sold Une Rose Chypree to me. I'd love to sample all the Tauers; have only smelt Lonestar Memories before.

SOTD is Etro Shaal Nur again - I too needed something comforting and snuggly today.

VintagePerfumista · 09/11/2016 14:51

I am also eating chocolate. I might have to buy more perfume this afternoon to console myself.

(consolation- the 80 kids I have taught over the last 24 hours are all as horrified as the rest of us)

I was in Diorella both yesterday and early this morning- Baroness- I think you might change your mind about Dior with this, definitely has the skankypant thing beloved of Femme etc going on Grin My ebay risk of FB Vent Vert arrived though so am now in that, and trying to date my packaging. Cannot find anything similar on google, so it's perhaps a total fake! Looks very genuine...not as strong (obvs) as the mini parfum I have but still got that green kick.

I'll keep trying to date it....

juicyfrooty welcome to our thread- I don 't really know any of the ones you've mentioned well, but they seem to be ambery oriental- biased I think? If you go to Fragrantica and put them in their finder thingy, it will give you a list of similar perfumes. Maybe another Guerlain? Shalimar and Mitsouko are both quite oriental-spicy?

VintagePerfumista · 09/11/2016 18:30

I just ordered samples of

Portrait of a Lady
Eau du Sud
L'Air du Desert Marocain
Nuit de Cellophane
Songes
Dans Tes Bras
Lonestar Memories
Angeliques sous la pluie
Parfum de Therese
En Passant
Feminite' du Bois

It's kind of a cross between your lot's fault and Trump's Grin

WaxyBean · 09/11/2016 19:14

Think I have found my people here! I love reading about your favourites and now have a shortlist of scents to try.

SOTD here is Bryedo bal d'afrique which I love but isn't very long lasting on me.

MummaB2016 · 09/11/2016 19:22

It's super pricey but my SOTD is Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir! It is my favourite thing ever on this planet... I love it! It was a christmas gift 2 years ago and I've managed to make it last ages but now I'm down to my last few drops :(

SuckingEggs · 10/11/2016 20:39

Songes is wonderful!

I've bought Timbuktu in TK Maxx. Blind buy. What's it like?

SuckingEggs · 10/11/2016 20:40

I mean, I might not open it if it sounds far from what I usually like.

Calminaqualm · 10/11/2016 22:58

SuckingEggs, Timbuktu is warm, spicy and smoky, with a jungly background. It's very distinctive but I love it and It lasts for hours. Luca Turin rates it highly. I also love Songes, which you do, so perhaps we have similar tastes, but Timbuktu is nothing like that!

VintagePerfumista · 11/11/2016 07:33

I went to bed in PP Prada Infusion d'Iris.

When my PPs arrived I couldn't smell anything on this one, thought meh, and shoved it in the box. My, but it's splendid. I couldn't stop sniffing myself in bed....it is totally not my kind of thing, but v lovely.

There's something in it which oddly reminds me of Sel Marin- an aftershavey kick almost. Grin Off to read notes on it.

AnotherPinkiePieStory · 11/11/2016 10:40

Oooh vintage I have copied your list as love the sound of so many of those.
sucking I've had my eye on Timbuktu in tkmaxx too. Sounds right up my street and really intrigued by l'artisan perfumes. Their website looks like it does free samples so that might be worth trying before you open?
Sotd cuir de russie sample. Not sure it is quite as described as it smells soapy on me. Wouldn't bother with a FB.
Waiting for truth or dare naked based on recommendations. Need to resolve to not buy more but such a nice way to feel better to receive a new smell!

OCSockOrphanage · 11/11/2016 14:42

Vintage, choice samples; look forward to reading what you think. I think the aftershave note in Infusion d'Iris and Sel Marin might be cedar; there's a flanker called Iris Cedre where it's even more noticeable.

Yesterday I wandered around in a cloud of Vetiver Tonka. It's my comfort scent and for some reason, it turned out a hectic day needing calm.

Today? I might try Timbuktu as a recent poster suggests. I found a set of 5ml minis at TK Maxx. I disliked La Chasse aux Papillons (wanted to love it because of the name) and Mure et Musc. The other minis were Caligna (pleasant herbaceous green), L'eau d'Ambre (as it says, amber) and Rose Privee (a rose, much sharper than PoaL, and quite pungent). No FB demands to be bought, of any.

SilverNightFairy · 11/11/2016 14:53

My lovely SIL just sent me Tom Ford's Tobbaco and Vanilla. It smells divine. I shall wear it all winter.

VintagePerfumista · 11/11/2016 14:57

My lovely friend has just this second texted me to ask if I know Tobacco and Vanilla as she is reading about it in Grazia and it sounds fab! I shall tell her that the perfumistas say it very is!

Interesting OC about the cedar- I am in love with this thing. Just reapplied and although it is definitely not an autumn perfume, I can see it being SoTD for days to come. I wonder what the real one smells like? (I am in PP) Might have to be a FB contender.

OCSockOrphanage · 11/11/2016 15:02

A kind DS (flush with holiday job money) bought me an FB of the Infusion d'Iris for my big birthday. AND the clever lad persuaded the sales assistant to give him samples of the flankers Prada have done too!

VintagePerfumista · 11/11/2016 15:29

She has gone online to buy it lol. Our influence extends far and wide. Grin

VintagePerfumista · 11/11/2016 15:30

What a marvellously well-brought up DS!
