Continuing from the previous thread. It's always so lovely to see new posters come and talk perfume. Everyone is welcome. Come and tell us your SOTD ( scent of the day) or ask us anything perfumey. Someone will know the answer! Get stuck in and get sniffing. You'll find no snobbery here!

I still can't smell anything

My JHAG sample set arrived, and it's beautifully packaged and I can't wait to get my nose in there, but there seems little point at the moment!

Judy- do you like Hippie Rose? Has to be applied very sparingly otherwise the hairy biker bit tends to take over. One squirt is great though, and a sillage monster indeed.

I have Goya Gardenia on my ebay searches. No idea if I like it or not lol, but there was a bottle at my Gran's and as I am recreating my perfume historical identity, I need a bottle! I'm generally not a white flower girl though. (says the woman who is never without a bottle of Anais Anais...hmm)

VintagePerfumista · 09/02/2017 06:10

What website are you all going on about? Am I missing a website?

Jins on the other page is looking for something similar to JM Lime Blossom, can anyone help? Jins- a quick google suggests L'Artisan La Chasse aux Papillons (esp the "extreme" version) , or L'ete en douce, Marc Jacobs Cucumber splash, Eau du Ciel by Annick Goutal, Champs Elysees by Guerlain, Essence by Marc Jacobs,.

I don;'t know any of these, but one of our gurus will!

I imagine companies like L'Occitane prob do a linden blossom perfume too, somewhere in their range.

Happy hunting!

shins · 09/02/2017 06:41

SOTD vintage Bal a Versailles. Subtly skanky.

teta · 09/02/2017 08:41

L ete en douce is the best Linden Blossom out of those mentioned.D'orsay also do a really good one.In fact the EDT is on offer on the Tk Maxx website at the moment - it's called Tilleul. They're both more natural and not as highly perfumed as the Jo Malone.La chasse aux Papillon is predominantly Tuberose with a touch of Linden Blossom that becomes more pronounced in warm weather.
Vintageperfumista I think we both might be talking at cross-purposes here regarding websites.Grin.
I'm in white flower heaven again courtesy of Dusita un Melodie d amour .The Gardenia is piercingly beautiful in the top notes and the Tuberose whilst green adds an indolic quality so you can smell the aging blossom on the tree.I'm just waiting to see whether I can pick up the other notes because many reviewers have sensed white musk that rolls in too early obfuscating the remaining flowers.

OCSockOrphanage · 09/02/2017 09:02

Years ago, we stayed in a house with a linden in full bloom in the garden. It was next to an apiary and the sound of half a million bees busy in the blossom was like nothing I have ever heard or felt. It was a deep rumble.

SoTD will be light and fresh, but warm........ Vetiver Tonka probably.

VintagePerfumista · 09/02/2017 09:38

I grabbed the first sample in the box as was running late and it was Chanel 22. You'll remember I hurled it in disgust into the minger box a while back. As everyone deserves a second chance.....not as horrific as Oyedo (yes, OC, it was indeed a Nose sample- furthering my belief that Nose get you to do their diagnostic and send you what the hell they want to get rid of anyway) but still very meh. My nose is not good at the mo' so I let my perfumista colleague smell me and she said it smells like "talcum powder on someone who has just had a fag" Grin

Jins · 09/02/2017 09:40

Thanks for the suggestions. I shall go hunting with a list Grin

LesIncompetents · 09/02/2017 10:27

Sorry OC my last post came out totally wrong, serves me right for skim reading Blush I understand what you mean, come to think of it I'm not keen on lillies either but love them in certain perfumes. Something about the smell of the flower reminds me of ham or barbecues Confused

Plumpysoft if you find Pleats Please, make sure you try the EDP in the purple bottle- the EDT is in a pink bottle and is sweet peas rather than violets.

SOTD is La Petite Robe Noire Eau Fraiche, a cheeky little eBay bargain (there's something about those Guerlain bottles I find very hard to resist!)

OCSockOrphanage · 09/02/2017 11:21

No offense taken LesIncompetents. Perfume is too personal for that.

DH just associates lilies with funerals. It's a pity as they look great and last well as cut flowers, and three stems fill a big vase.

VintagePerfumista · 09/02/2017 14:28

I've now covered the Chanel 22 with a big squirt of L'Heure Bleue.

I am clearly in a benzoin/medicinal/balsamy/sillage monster phase, thanks to my cold!

MrsCocoa · 09/02/2017 19:28

I'll join you there Vintage. SotD is Youth Dew - the postman delivered my half full vintage bottle with a broken atomiser. It's wonderful! Of course neither youthful nor dewy, but a wonderfully complex mesmerising potion for adult women at the height of their powers! The current formulation has a nasty henna-like note in the herbal opening. Not present in the vintage!

Shall be sniffing this very happily all night. Grin

What other vintage perfume would you all recommend?

VintagePerfumista · 09/02/2017 20:38

I am hanging fire over a Givenchy III with broken atomiser...how are you getting at your YD? Does it just unscrew? And then you use it like a splash bottle?

Vintage formulas I love, off the top of my head: Bandit, Vent Vert, Ysatis, Caleche, virtually anything by Coty, or Goya. Calandre, old Rive Gauche (PP Rive Gauche smells more like vintage RG than new RG) aforementioned Givenchy III, Dioressence, Diorella, (Miss Dior herself hasn't changed that much I don't think, oddly, but those two have) Je Reviens, Blue Grass, the old Faberge' perfumes, the Houbigants (esp Chantilly, Mystere de Rochas, Ma Griffe, Fidji, Heaven Scent...

They have all been reformulated - some out of all recognition (Blue Grass etc) Some are lovely in the modern version but without that "Wow, what the hell was that" va-va-voom of the old version.

I am hoovering up the old Ysatis on ebay. I have more than enough to last me till the end of my days I think, but it is so epochal (at least for me) and the new version is just so meh that I need it all!

Judydreamsofhorses · 09/02/2017 20:58

vintage funnily enough, I also own a full bottle of Hippie Rose! I like it more in summer (along with Sel Marin) but might reach for it tomorrow now you've made me think if it.

SOTD was L'Air de Rien.like a cosy blanket.

VintagePerfumista · 10/02/2017 08:23

See, L' Air du Rien did nothing for me, and I sent my Sel Marin to a perfumista!

I shall try L'Air du Rien again when I'm over my balsam moment.

Cuir Cordoba today. Heaven.

VintagePerfumista · 10/02/2017 08:23

I realise I need to make a list of all my samples because names crop up on here and I think "oh, I think I've got a phial of that somewhere!"

Judydreamsofhorses · 10/02/2017 09:22

Inspired by vintage, SOTD is Heeley Hippie Rose. It's making me feel all spring-y, despite there being snow on the ground this morning.

I love L'Air de Rien so much - I am onto my fourth or fifth bottle now. Sel Marin doesn't last brilliantly on me, but I feel like it's a perfect summer scent and can be sprayed around with abandon.

Calminaqualm · 10/02/2017 10:30

I've still kept my bottle of Rochas Mystere from years ago, now empty alas. I can still sniff it to get the scent. I've no idea what the modern version is like. Does anyone know?

My SOTD is Lolita Lempicka's Elle L'Aime. It's mainly coconut, lime and vanilla on me, but there are white flowers as well. Love the smell, but it's a bit fleeting. It's similar to Creed's Virgin Island Water. I think I need to visit John Lewis for a healthy squirt to see if the Creed lasts longer. Last time I tried it I thought it disappeared quickly. The Lempicka bottle is such a pleasure to use, a bit bonkers with a very classy swishy spray. Amazingly good value.

Plumpysoft · 10/02/2017 12:30

Thanks for the tip off Lesincompetents!

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 10/02/2017 13:43

SOTD is the original Lolita Lempicka - Lolita Lempicka fragrance. I get so much licorice and something thick and almost tar like as well as the spices and violets. This has been a favourite for a while. It just oozes richness on my skin.

HAd to be something strong today as i feel very bunged up and heavy headed but was fed up of not wearing any scent. I miss it so much when i wear nothing, feels naked somehow!

MrsCocoa · 10/02/2017 17:34

I need to smell LL - I love licorice! I blind bought Yohji Yamamoto on the strength of the LT & TS review and the ref to licorice notes - but couldn't detect any at all.

Vintage - I can still balance the top and press down whilst holding it in place. Once, when the top of a brand new bottle flew off and disappeared behind the back of the fridge, a Travalo atomiser saved the day. You can load them from the tube in the bottle neck.

SilverHawk · 10/02/2017 20:23

MrsC look at the reviews on Fragrantica and work out which LL to try.
My heavy hitter is this www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Lolita-Lempicka/L-eau-d-Minuit-2007-Fleur-de-Minuit-1945.html
Go for the darker ones for the licorice kick.
You should still be able to find the original LL all over the normal sites.

SilverHawk · 10/02/2017 20:25

This looks good for licorice www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Lolita-Lempicka/Illusions-Noires-Le-Premier-Parfum-Eau-de-Minuit-16182.html.
I have never seen it around though and I'm a big LL fan.

OCSockOrphanage · 10/02/2017 20:30

Hello, perfumistas!

Dull day doing housework today, in TF Grey Vetiver (proper juice) which was pleasant but didn't make my spirit sing at all. Now just making the family appreciate what is done for them the value of a SATP. Going to teach DS 17 how to iron shirts properly during half term. ooh the joy! I think I may even introduce him to the sleeve board. Or is that cruelty?

LesIncompetents · 10/02/2017 21:14

Another LL lover here, although I've only tried the original. Also I'm a sucker for a pretty bottle...

I'm in Aqua Allegoria Rosa Pop today, more violets than roses and a little bit fruity. Think I'll be wearing this one a lot during Spring.

Not cruel at all OC, I'm sure his future spouse will be thanking you Wink
My DC's idea of helping with the housework always seems to end in more mess (7 yr old DS tried to make his own sandwiches this morning, that was funGrin)

MrsCocoa · 10/02/2017 21:25

I do like wearing Grey Vetiver - makes me feel like a Captain of Industry Grin, but the more I wear it the more I focus on the carroty orris.
