Continuing from the previous thread. It's always so lovely to see new posters come and talk perfume. Everyone is welcome. Come and tell us your SOTD ( scent of the day) or ask us anything perfumey. Someone will know the answer! Get stuck in and get sniffing. You'll find no snobbery here!

I looked at the Dusita link you posted Teta, and thought some sounded wonderful. She is a bit of a PR dream. Even the samples are spendy, but will confess to having been tempted by the pack of them.

Calminaqualm · 06/02/2017 20:20

MrsA, Smurfygurly on YouTube does perfume reviews and she's recently reviewed some dupes, including Perfume Parlour's Tom Ford Neroli Portofino. (Just search for Smurfygurly Tom Ford Privates Blend Dupes in YouTube.). If I remember correctly she thought the opening was slightly different, but the dry down was almost exactly the same as the real thing. I've ordered some to try.

Shins, I'm amazed that you don't like any of your 4160 samples. I wonder if you have somehow managed to select some of the more difficult ones? Which ones do you have? I wore Ealing Green yesterday - a fresh, sweet and herby blend of rose, violet and geranium on me (but there are lots of different notes which others get more of).

SilverHawk · 06/02/2017 20:25

Shins do you have Dirty Honey?

MrsAHotch · 06/02/2017 20:27

Calm Thanks for the tip! The other ones I use day to day on rotation are Moschino Cheap and Chic, and Dior Hypnotic Poison.

MrsCocoa · 06/02/2017 22:12

. What did you try Shins? And tell us about your favourites.

MrsCocoa · 06/02/2017 22:18

SotD :4160's Paris 1948 layered with Empreinte to boost the oakmoss.

shins · 06/02/2017 23:12

I have the Cities sampler. I don't like any of them and I have a reasonably "well-travelled" nose so am not particularly faint-hearted. I like and wear "difficult" perfumes from the Etat Libre d'Orange range or Bandit or the great stonkers from Malle. I wanted to like these 4160 Tuesdays as I love the concept and they seem like lovely people. There's just something choking and synthetic about every base, and weirdly discordant sickliness through the top and middle notes. I have to admit defeat!

MrsCocoa · 07/02/2017 00:15

MrsA , if Deci Dela is a favourite you are prime candidate to appreciate 4160's aesthetic. Have you tried their Babylon Sunset (formerly known as Says Alice) by any chance?

Shins, yes there is definitely a whacking great synthetic peach running through my SotD - which on the plus side gives it legs, but I do tend to dampen it down with something really mossy. If you haven't lost heart completely it might be worth trying out some some of their other compositions. Still sweet, but more on the gourmand-side of things are The Great Randello and Centrepiece. Would recommend Who Knew, Tarts Knicker Drawer and Shazam! too. 4160 has some interesting things to say about synthetics Vs naturals.

Apologies all for typos below - multi-tasking.

Feawen · 07/02/2017 08:53

Jumping in as a newbie to the thread and no expert...

I also have a selection of 4160 Tuesdays samples and was surprised to find that many were very sweet and fruity! I often quite like scents with a good dash of vanilla or benzoin but a few of the samples were too much for me. The Dark Heart of Old Havana, the New York one, Babylon Sunset and Sex Goddess were not my cup of tea. I did pick out some sweet ones so it's in my own head but gosh they were more than I could handle.

On the other hand, Centrepiece was a grower, though I dont love it's top notes, and Who Knew and Sleep Knot were absolutely delightful. Who Knew is a dry, tea-y rose scent, and sleep knot is peppery white flowers, so quite different but both lovely and without the syrupyness (made up word) that I didn't like in the others.

I love the concept too and am not criticising the lovely people at 4160 Tuesdays - I reckon I made the wrong choices for me when I picked out the samples.

VintagePerfumista · 07/02/2017 09:16

Shins- while I've never smelt any 4160s, they cannot be worse than the most mingy scent on the planet Oyredo (was that it?) the thing that had been hollering "gedditoffmenow" and running for the dettol!

Still bunged up so in LADDM. Can just about smell myself.

Issarra sounds wonderful!

OCSockOrphanage · 07/02/2017 09:36

Vintage, I knew someone else hated the Oyedo[?]. Was it a Nose sample?

There were a couple of the Dusita perfumes that sounded amaazing but I too would plump for the Issara.

My first reaction to smelling 4160s was similar to Shins; I couldn't get past the common denominators, but the crowd-funded ones last summer were better. Buddhawood Box and Captured by Candlelight get the occasional outing, but 9ml will do me for a very long time. I could enable, if anyone wished.

Pondering what to choose for today.

Jins · 07/02/2017 09:42

Maybe someone can help me. Can you think of anything similar to Jo Malone's French Lime Blossom?

Judydreamsofhorses · 07/02/2017 12:30

SOTD is Bella Freud 1970. I tend not to reach for this often, but actually I really, really like it. I should wear it more.

teta · 07/02/2017 14:06

Issara is wonderful. So wonderful I wore it again ,it's so feminine on.But the longevity is maybe around 4-5 hours and it is weak for an extrait.I wish the site sold small bottles because I don't wish to hawk a child for the 50 ml bottle.
I tried another sample Douceur de Siam ( or similar). The opening is an intense note of the most divinely thrilling natural Gardenia of any perfume ever. After a few minutes this is backed up by a Tuberose and hence the perfume descends into musk-infused white flower heaven. The Gardenia is of such amazing quality but the heart and base are if similar quality To Van cleef and Arpels Gardenia Petale ( very natural and of good quality but not spectacular).

OCSockOrphanage · 07/02/2017 15:36

So tempted, Teta, especially since you've enthused twice. However, DS is now so close to adulthood that I think selling him into slavery is my only option; which is most valuable: child or slave? He's handy around the garden and is a whizz with IKEA flatpacks... bids? Failing that, it's an organ.

I could give the gardenia a wide berth; that, with or without tuberose, could not ever smell of Sock!

MrsCocoa · 07/02/2017 20:40

SotD: is Cabochard. In smoky, soapy, leathery heaven (again),

MrsCocoa · 07/02/2017 22:51

Have you tried L'Artisan's Rapelle Toi teta? Converted me to gardenia.

teta · 08/02/2017 08:41

You mean Sock MrsCocoa?
I got my new Wrappings yesterday.Fizzy lemon sherbert with a slight bitterness from the Oakmoss but then I sniffed too close and singed my Nose. Now I can't smell very much at all!

OCSockOrphanage · 08/02/2017 09:39

I can't even bear gardenia flowers in the house: some kind person brought me one as a present. It looked lovely but smelled vile. DH insisted that it be given away. He hates the big Stargazer lilies too; the NDNs get those once the donors are out of the door. Freesias and roses are okay.

LesIncompetents · 08/02/2017 20:09

I might be your perfume enemy OC as I adore white florals of every description
I know how they can become overwhelming though, definitely one or two sprays max or I'd end up giving myself a headache.

SOTD is Issey Miyake Pleats Please EDP- musky Parma violets. It's super cheap on allbeauty if anyone's looking for a sugary violet fix!

OCSockOrphanage · 08/02/2017 20:33

No perfume enemies... just lush floral. I've only recently learned to love roses, unless in gardens. PoaL today, so you don't think I am anti-flower scents (hard to get more rose, surely). I just prefer them with a healthy belt of something green or spicy.

Plumpysoft · 08/02/2017 20:34

Ooh Pleats Please sounds good. I love violet. I loved Versace Ethereal but it was discontinued :(

Judydreamsofhorses · 08/02/2017 21:11

Rosy SOTD here today too - JHAG Mad Madame. Rose with a good blast of patchouli to stop it being too nice.

MrsCocoa · 08/02/2017 23:16

That sounds very lovely teta - had a look on the website at the weekend but think all gone :( Have lost plot a bit with the socks?

teta · 08/02/2017 23:53

No,tis still on Mrs cocoa but its really hard to find.I know because I ordered a second set today. Its under perfume sets and doesn't come up if you search perfume or wrappings weirdly. Its an absolutely beautiful perfume .I've been wearing it all day and Issara ( by Dusita) smells sickly next to it.
