Continuing from the previous thread. It's always so lovely to see new posters come and talk perfume. Everyone is welcome. Come and tell us your SOTD ( scent of the day) or ask us anything perfumey. Someone will know the answer! Get stuck in and get sniffing. You'll find no snobbery here!

Is it real or your private blend, MrsC? Apart from Knowing and White Linen, Blush to admit I haven't tried most of the EL scents. It makes me think it should be really rich and lush.

Where are we all? I couldn't see our thread last night and created a new one. Then I found my glasses!

It's another miserable day here, pouring and the wind is rising, so SockDog needs to be taken out early. I fancy comfort perfume today, so it will probably be Eau des Merveilles.

MrsCocoa · 03/02/2017 14:32

OC it was a special edition flanker from the noughties which TF did for EL. It's discontinued. Generally very well reviewed along the lines of '...under-rated TF gem which respectfully modernises YD dropping the old lady aspects blah blah....). I ask because I spotted a cheapish bottle on Ebay and blind bought (I know, I know).

As it turns out I'm underwhelmed - so was interested in whether anyone here has tried? On me the opening produces a strong Vapona insecticide note this goes after an hour but then the heart and dry down feel curiously hollow and unsatisfying. (At Ieast I realise now that it is the syrupy, balsamy resins in YD that I like...so am embracing my inner old lady). Smile

LesIncompetents · 03/02/2017 15:58

MrsCocoa I've heard good things about YD Amber Nude, might have been in 'Perfumes-the guide'? I ended up with so many blind buys due to that bloody book!

Has anyone had a sniff yet of the new Guerlain Petite Robe Noir Intense? I've been deliberating over a bottle of the original for yonks and wondering how the new one compares. Might see if I can sniff it out tomorrow...

I'm in Deja Le Printemps again today, trying to battle the grey and rain with green springy freshness.

OCSockOrphanage · 03/02/2017 16:05

I'm off to visit my DSis in Dubai in a fortnight so I'm planning a sniffathon around the Birmingham DF shop. Does anyone know what's there that's not to be found in every high street? I remember a Chanel counter with the exclusives, so a spray of Coromandel is on the cards. Hoping to spot the TF private lines, and maybe some other gems. And of course, Dubai itself has some very fancy perfumeries.

teta · 03/02/2017 16:46

I'm a bit frightened by Estee Lauder perfumes for some reason. They all seem to be immensely strong with nuclear sillage on me.The only one I enjoy is Bronze Goddess .
Annayake' Yukimi is my SOTD today from a swop.A very gentle cold snowy day amongst cedars .The bottle is totally quaint !
For anyone who enjoys Clinique Wrappings the set is on the Clinique website at the moment for £30 .eBay prices are usually pretty high for this and it's often difficult to get ,as it's a bit of a Cult product.

MrsCocoa · 03/02/2017 18:01

I quite like nuclear sillage! Tell us about Clinique Wrappings Teta - I haven't smelt?

I stopped a woman in the supermarket last week who smelt really fabulous (I stalked her for a couple of aisles to make sure Blush). She was wearing Aromatics Elixir. I like Aromatics, but it was particularly stunning on her.

What about one of the two L'Artisan Ambers Polly? Think they are starting to come back into TK Maxx in time for Valentine's Day

OCSockOrphanage · 05/02/2017 15:22

Nearly 48 hours without a post. You all have colds, or you are all out having fun!

Just thought about perfume, so have applied some of the PP By Kilian Imperial Tea and topped off with a niggardly spray of what remains from my Eau d'Hiver decant. It's rather good, if you like marzipan, hawthorn blossom, witch hazel and sarcocca box. (I have a bush under my cloakroom window; you can hardly see the flowers but in January and February it has a rich honey smell that is a great antidote to grey weather. Dull evergreen foliage the rest of the year though, but thrives in dry north facing bed in case you are interested.)

The oil lends the Eau d'Hiver (an Emperor's New Clothes scent for most people) a bit of whoomph and longeveity, and it goes well with the black tea from the dupe oil. Not my worst confection by a long chalk.

I am watching Broadchurch on Netflix getting over my monster feverish cold. No perfume since Tuesday! Sad

I dragged myself to MILs for lunch and did get a hint of SIL's Chanel 5 so am obviously on the mend.

Am comforting myself with vintage Dune. (that 15ml I bought isn't going to last long at this rate!)

I love nuclear sillage and have a few of the ELs on ebay-watch as well as PP dupes of a couple, including Wrappings and Private Collection. PC is a bit on the heavy sweet side of chypre for me, but Wrappings is very interesting.

Aromatics Elixir on other people always smells phenomenal- I remember asking a very classy colleague what it was years ago, but certainly the PP dupe I have is, again, too on the sweet side of nuclear for me. I wonder if it's been reformulated since I smelt it on my colleague- or maybe the PP dupe is not as good a dupe as they usually are.

OCSockOrphanage · 05/02/2017 17:04

Going to watch Broadchurch later! Hope series 3 isn't a letdown. Comforting roast chicken for lunch, no complicated recipes as DH is away for a long day and hours of meeting tomorrow. No garlic, no legumes, nothing that could result in anything nasty in confined spaces. So plain, simple, but a trial for a new gravy-making technique that was a massive triumph!!!

Judydreamsofhorses · 05/02/2017 17:43

SOTD is Diptyque Philosykos. Playing at spring. OC I absolutely love Eau d'Hiver and am getting a full bottle for my birthday.

OCSockOrphanage · 05/02/2017 18:18

Judy, you have someone well trained to understand that the right perfumes are not always the obvious choice! High fives to you.

Plumpysoft · 05/02/2017 20:46

I got a bottle of Miller Harris Pamplemousse for Xmas but it's too strong for me. Anyone fancy a swap?! My favourites are Ombré dans L'leau and La Feiulle. Or anything with violets in...

VintagePerfumista · 06/02/2017 07:00

OC- I finished it. I am bereft. I'll probably have to buy some perfume to make me feel better! Had a sneaky look at the spoilers for series 3. Looks good. I love Rory-Vicar almost as much as I love Dr David Tennant Who.

SoTD (given am still full of cold) Lonestar Memories.

MrsAHotch · 06/02/2017 07:53

Totally late to the party here Blush

My all time favourite was Nina Ricci Deci Dela. Since it has been discontinued, the price is absolutely astronomical so I just occasionally sniff the empty bottle instead. Have since consoled myself with Tom Ford Neroli Portofino and use VERY sparingly.

VintagePerfumista · 06/02/2017 08:24

Get thee to Perfume Parlour MrsA! The TFs are there and get good reviews for dupes.

OCSockOrphanage · 06/02/2017 09:16

Vintage, I feel your pain. The comfort scent that has replaced Dune and inspires that sensation for me now is the EdP of Elixir des Merveilles. It's warm, spicy amber and enfolds me in softness. Fortunately a little goes a long way and it lasts well, so I am eking it out as it was a gift from my DM.

SoTD is the PP Sahara Noir. I like it, and am impressed by the TF dupes, even though the Noir de Noir isn't the equal of the original. Hoping to sample the TF original Sahara at some stage in my imminent travels.

Judydreamsofhorses · 06/02/2017 09:56

SOTD is Chanel 19. Wishing Monday gone, swiftly.

shins · 06/02/2017 09:59

Any 4160 Tuesdays fans here who'd like some samples? I have never smelled anything so awful in my life Sad I want to like them but they are all horrendous -it could be the base (I have something similar with Tauer) but they all smell cheap and synthetic and badly made. PM me!

MrsAHotch · 06/02/2017 10:58

You're not really selling it, shins Grin

shins · 06/02/2017 11:00

Sorry! It's all subjective though, some of my faves are hated by others Wink

shins · 06/02/2017 11:00

I'll give them away for free!

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 06/02/2017 12:23

Shins if you still have the 4160 samples, could i have some of them, please? if you've already rehomed them, no worries and it was kind of you to offer them to others

no perfume for me today as i have a monster headache that just won't shift and i don't want anything to make it worse.

I love reading all your scent adventures, some of hem sound so lush but are way out of my price range plus i haven't got the storage for anymore as i have an embarrassing amount of full bottles if i'm honest Blush

shins · 06/02/2017 12:27

Onetime sure, just pm me your address!

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 06/02/2017 13:58

pm sent Shin Thanks

still cannot shift this headache and it's really making me miserable, i want to smell nice!!!

teta · 06/02/2017 16:12

I've received the Dusita perfume pack.
Issara is my SOTD ,a very new interpretation of a Fougere with Pine and Sage top notes ,a heart of Coumarin and a base of Musk and Ambergris. It fulfills all my dreams of a Warm Winter Green Perfume ,evoking clear pine mountain air, nature, green flowers ,wiith a savoury element from the Ambergris and sweetness from the Coumarin .This definitely ties in with the naturalistic trend of the time
But whether it's 295 euros of perfume heaven I'm not sure. The price is highly exclusive and this perfume range has been feted to the hills. The perfumer is also extremely beautiful and very photogenic which I guess helps!
