Continuing from the previous thread. It's always so lovely to see new posters come and talk perfume. Everyone is welcome. Come and tell us your SOTD ( scent of the day) or ask us anything perfumey. Someone will know the answer! Get stuck in and get sniffing. You'll find no snobbery here!

Spring has come early - have been having a violet-fest.

I was drenched in Bois de Violette yesterday - the bottle slipped out of my hands and I spilt at least 2ml of the remaining 7ml or so. Sad. So I splashed on everything I could rescue and enjoyed its sheer, ethereal beauty. Could believe this was made and bottled by wood nymphs.

Then today, I reached for a little 4160 bottle I'd bought for a relative for Xmas but chickened out at the last minute (would you give your Stepmother a bottle of Tarts Knicker Drawer? ).

I decided to give it a whirl and it turns out it's a mild mannered, sweet, powdery, woody violet. Not vampy in the least; pretty rather than beautiful, and nostalgic feeling. It asks to be matched to a vintage frock.

LoupGarou · 28/01/2017 22:18

Would anyone be able to recommend some new perfume for me please?

My all time favourite is Ester Lauder Sensuous Nude, and I also love Chanel Coco, Coco Mademoiselle and also really love Clarins Eau Ressourcante. I also used to love Avon Little Black Dress.

Any advice would be very much appreciated as I have no idea what to look for and would need to order online as I live in too remote a location to sniff first. Confused

MrsCocoa · 29/01/2017 20:53

Hi Loup - can you give us a bit more to go on? When will you wear it? What vibe are you after?

(PS. Have you smelt L'Artisan 's Mechant Loup? Reviews are mixed, but it would be fitting....).

Judydreamsofhorses · 29/01/2017 20:59

SOTD is L'Air de Rien. I am still really hankering after Tauer Lonestar Memories.

daffodil10 · 29/01/2017 22:34

My teenage dd is desperate to have the perfume "Juliette has a gun" beautiful but expensive

LoupGarou · 29/01/2017 23:03

MrsCocoa thanks, yep will try. I wear perfume every day, and I like to stick with the same one for both day and evening. Vibe, hmmm something timeless, elegant not sickly sweet or overpowering but strong enough to be noticed, but in a subtle way, of that makes sense?! Confused. No I haven't smelt it, I'll have a look it thanks Smile

OCSockOrphanage · 30/01/2017 09:00

This morning I tried a quick flash of a sample I knew nothing about! No knowledge of the brand (Connock) or perfume name (Kukui).

It's lavishly white florals... full of gardenia, jasmine and lilies, and I don't get any of the vetiver or bergamot or the tonka bean mentioned.

Not quite me really and probably a good thing that DH is out at work; he hates lilies with a vengeance so if he caught a whiff I'd be threatened with the hose next to SockDog!

justaweeone · 30/01/2017 09:52

Daffodil
I buy these

VintagePerfumista · 30/01/2017 14:21

And justaweeone just made me buy them too! Grin

I am trying the TF Neroli Portofino that came as a freebie. Nice enough, summer citrus obvs, cross between Cristalle-Jade and old Boots Lemon Grass bathcubes.

Won't be spending ££££s on a FB but might have a PP dupe for summer heat.

MrsCocoa · 30/01/2017 22:31

Loup - I put Sensuous Nude in the Michael Edwards Fragrance Finder: it suggests Divine Decadence (Marc Jacobs), Valentina Poudre (Valentino) and Extatic Gold Musk (Balmain).

Have you tried any of the Tom Ford's: might be worth giving Black Orchid and Velvet Orchid a whirl? And L'Agent Provocateur's L'Agent reminds me a bit of vintage Coco.

Amytib · 31/01/2017 00:35

My favs are V&R flowerbomb and escentric molecule 01

Judydreamsofhorses · 31/01/2017 18:51

SOTD is Liz Earle no 15. A miserable day, so needed something cosy.

Judydreamsofhorses · 31/01/2017 18:54

Oh, I did that JHAG tester kit a few years ago - I ended up with full bottles of Miss Charming and Mad Madame afterwards. I think the cost of the set can be redeemed against a FB so it's a really good shout.

OCSockOrphanage · 31/01/2017 19:59

SoTd was the PP Sycomore dupe, but it was so wet and grey that it hasn't mattered. It could have been anything; nothing is as depressing as soggy. And there are apparently days of the same to come.

What's worse, it's now February , and the worst month of the year. I need a boost for my joie de vivre. It could be scented. What would yours be? Hoping for scentspiration.............. Eau Suave? I have not bought a bottle in forever.

MrsCocoa · 31/01/2017 20:33

Off topic, but just wondering OC, how February can possibly be worse than January?

MrsCocoa · 31/01/2017 22:05

SotD is Cabochard. Every bit as beautiful as i remembered - walloping oakmoss with comforting tobacco and sandalwood. (Possibly my only example of youthful good taste).

Flowers and Wine to a fellow smelly viper.

VintagePerfumista · 01/02/2017 06:15

Full of cold and aches and pains and end of term Very Italian (ie masses of self-important paperwork) meetings that I can't miss because my name is on the paper innit Hmm

So will wear something spicy and Tauery today. Yesterday grabbed first thing to hand which was Liz Earle n1. Seriously under-rated IMO as it's her best. It has a big wallop of something Chanel 19y in its initial blast which of course helps.

Cabochard is lovely. Another one I keep meaning to nab a FB of. Unlike Cabotine- which I bought one of, thinking it was the one which I loved.

February is bad in the same way Tuesday is. Too far away both sides of anything nice. Grin

VintagePerfumista · 01/02/2017 06:16

That said, thinking about it, the most phenomenal days of my life have been Tuesdays. Hmmm.

OCSockOrphanage · 01/02/2017 14:03

Actually, February is not worse than January because it's shorter.

And February is going to end early (on 26th) because I'm off to visit my DSis in the sun! It's the grey days that get me down. On the upside, it's my mum's birthday and it brings the first spring flowers. There are daffs out already in sheltered spots, and snowdrops, anemones, wallflowers and mini iris reticulata.

No perfume yet today, so that's something else to look forward to!

teta · 01/02/2017 14:50

One way to cheer up February is to put in a couple of sample orders.Firstly Dusita - apparently absolutely stunning perfumes, have just started doing a 15 ml sample pack of 5 perfumes on their website ( rave reviews on fragantica.Plus a MFK sample order including several of the new Perfumes I've yet to try and some old favourites.
Wearing MFK ' Baccarat Rouge today .I had forgotten how beautiful it is and how much I adore Ambergris in perfume.

SilverHawk · 01/02/2017 16:54

SotD Seville a l'Aube. Heavenly and makes me think of warmer weather...
After a successful swap Flowers, I have been introduced to 4160. I've seen it mentioned so many times on here but never looked further, well I'm bowled over, so impressed.(The inner scientist was awakened!) I must try the Dirty Honey as it shares ingredients with SotD.
Has anyone ever been on their wall of scent open days?

PollysPoppy · 01/02/2017 19:45

Jumping in with a request for recommendations, if I may. Current scent is Tom Ford Black Orchid but I fancy a change. Before I buy another bottle of Chanel Coco (which is my alternative), does anyone have suggestions as to what I should go and sniff? Thanks!

MrsCocoa · 01/02/2017 20:59

SilverHawk - I did a perfume making day. These start with a sniffing session which I imagine is a bit like The Wall of Scent.

I really loved it - Sarah McCartney is a truly great guide - enthusiastic, highly knowledgeable and very, very funny. The conversation tumbled around but included notes, structure and a bit of underpinning science, history of some of the classics, insights into regulations and reformulation, plus the odd eye popping anecdote. I learnt loads. It was also the most stimulating, life affirming thing I've done in a long time, but be warned, it increased my interest in perfume by a warp factor of at least 8.

MrsCocoa · 01/02/2017 21:03

Just read that back. Realise I am a super fan Blush

MrsCocoa · 02/02/2017 23:21

Anyone got views on ELxTF Youth Dew Amber Nude?
