Continuing from the previous thread. It's always so lovely to see new posters come and talk perfume. Everyone is welcome. Come and tell us your SOTD ( scent of the day) or ask us anything perfumey. Someone will know the answer! Get stuck in and get sniffing. You'll find no snobbery here!

Forgotten, you wanted recommendations for citrussy perfumes. Blood Orange (Shay & Blue) is sold in larger Marks & Spencer stores, so easy to test. It is an in-your-face juicy blood orange which is quickly joined by leather and musk. It is a linear scent with the orange and leather persisting all the way through, and very long-lasting (6-8 hrs on me). Definitely in my top ten!

The Guerlain Aqua Allegoria range includes Pamplelune, a light zesty grapefruit fragrance with an interesting base of vanilla and a bit of patchouli. It only lasts 2-3 hours on me.

Finally, 4160 Tuesdays has an unusual citrus called Invisible Ben. It has a sharp lemon and lime opening which then settles down to a lemony woodsy fragrance which comes and goes for several hours. I like it very much. Some reviewers have issues with longevity, so best to test.

mathanxiety · 25/01/2017 22:11

Jo Malone Grapefruit is nice and citrussy. Layers well with fresh spring flowery perfumes as long as they are light.

Clarins Eau Dynamisante has strong orange and lemon notes, even bergamot-ish

Sisley Eau de Campagne has lemon/lime notes mixed with tomato stem and basil. It's not sweet, actually quite herbal.

Amarige is available on Amazon and elsewhere. It's a Givenchy perfume.

VintagePerfumista · 26/01/2017 06:37

I love my Scent and Subversion book. I allow myself to read 2 pages every night to really absorb every word. BH allows you to friend her on FB as well. I am just about to start the 70s chapter but as you can imagine, my ebay search list now runs to 100s. Grin

I have a PP version of Musc Ravageur but have only sniffed the bottle so far.

Amarige on allbeauty If you go via quidco you get quite a bit of cashback as well, and it's free delivery.

I have a day off today, and we know what that means.

VintagePerfumista · 26/01/2017 07:02

First SOTD Y by YSL.

Sublime, initial galbanum rush. It's like the perfumes our Mums wore (well, mine) Very grown up and classy chypre. Another one that shows that you can be sweet and pretty without being pink smelling.

VintagePerfumista · 26/01/2017 08:55

Oooh my Scent Samples package has arrived, the vintage Dune continuing to make its way around Europe thanks to OC's Gran, some L'Heure Bleue and 2 very generous freebie samples of TF Neroli Portofino and Creed Erolfa.

I shall now forgive them their ferocious postage costs! (beautifully packaged as well)

OCSockOrphanage · 26/01/2017 11:17

Happy Thursday Vintage! Got to be a standout with all the treasures.

SOTD is Bulgari Eau Parfumée au Thé Bleu. Refreshing spritz of oolong and lavender and today it's just perfect, but sometimes it fails. You would think it should be best in warm weather, but it's great in a grey, windy chill and the sillage is projecting way better than normal.

Janey50 · 26/01/2017 16:31

Thank you to everyone who let me know it was Givenchy who do Amarige.

MrsCocoa · 26/01/2017 19:57

Thank you OC Flowers

Only an hour or so in, but the Italian Cyprus has been a surprise. Got a big belting aftershave opening, but within half an hour that gave way to
really sweet ethereal wisps of basil and mint (which brought to mind the soaring sweet tobacco at the opening of The Great Randello). Its settling down into gentle woods with dry sherry.

The Plum Japonais is oscillating between sweet buttery velvet and something quite bitter and herbal. Do wonder if I might be anosmic when it comes to plum notes though? Have tried Mary Greenwell's Plum too but I never seem to get a distinct impression of plum (I don't seem to have this problem with peach, raspberry, or strawberry! Guess artificial peach barnstorms its way through anything...).

OCSockOrphanage · 26/01/2017 20:19

Delighted that you have got so much more from them than I did, MrsC. Neither sat well on my skin, but of the two I preferred the Plum Japonais as I found it softer and more accessible. The Cypress was too balsamic, piney and antiseptic and the drydown didn't really happen. Another squirt of the Bvlgari Thé Bleu was my finish for today. It has been much more memorable in cold weather. The oddness of a scent that is stronger, clearer and more distinctive in cold weather than warm has me slightly mystified.

MrsCocoa · 26/01/2017 20:40

OC by coincidence I ordered 5ml of Bvlgari The Rouge last night (seems to be being flogged off everywhere, but gets decentish reviews). Have you tried?

TWOBANANAS · 26/01/2017 21:17

SOTD today is Coach, smelt it on my sister and OMG I cannot get enough of it.

OCSockOrphanage · 26/01/2017 21:45

Thé Rouge has never appeared on a counter near me so I haven't sniffed it. There is a reviewer on Now Smell This whose tastes are similar to mine who raved about the Bleu so I got a decant. I hated it in summer and nearly got rid. Glad I didn't now.

OCSockOrphanage · 26/01/2017 21:47

May have to look for the Rouge, just for research IYKWIM!

daffodil10 · 26/01/2017 23:19

I love nuxe sun delicious perfume water in the summer. It smells of holidays and reminds me of France. I also like frangonard Jasmin. Both of these are available in m& s I think. Old favourites are Chanel allure, Ralph Lauren romance, Clinique happy. My first perfume was amarige closely followed by Estée Lauder spellbound !!!

BaronessBomburst · 26/01/2017 23:43

I have been avoiding posting as I was following something on eBay and didn't want to blurt it out: I was just so excited!
But I won the auction!
It's Tauer Le Maroc Pour Elle. SmileGrin
A Tauer FB! Well, 80% full. That's close enough for me.

VintagePerfumista · 27/01/2017 06:23

How much how much????

Daffodil- Spellbound is on my list of things to try. EL perfumes are generally very good I think.

Love Allure and Happy as well.

BaronessBomburst · 27/01/2017 06:38

£49!
Only 50ml bottle though, but normally £105.

I'm also hatching a plan involving a work colleague who lives in Germany. Andy posts FB to Germany and they're cheaper direct from his own site.
Only the site is closed for maintenance until 31st Jan.
Can I really afford it?
And which one?!

MrsCocoa · 27/01/2017 08:09

SotD L'Eau Ambre Extreme - ideal for hugging an old friend later! This is a cosy sweet powdery amber (I will try and ignore the nip of ambergris which is a note I really dislike).

VintagePerfumista · 27/01/2017 08:59

Ooh that's a good price though.

If I had to buy a FB tomorrow it would be between Coeur du Desert and Lonestar Memories.

What's Le Maroc Pour Elle like then?

I am currently in Miss Dior, lots of meetings with scary headteacher today so I need to feel like I'm wearing white linen (clothes, not scent) (though that would give same aura I feel) and exuding professional from each pore. (rather than wearing mucky shoes and mascara that keeps clumping and going under my contact lenses and making me rock-da-panda look)

OCSockOrphanage · 27/01/2017 09:55

Infusions d'Iris today. One of those perfumes that always works without requiring thought or effort.

teta · 27/01/2017 10:16

Wow ,that's a good price Baroness. There's brilliant perfume bargains on eBay these days.SOTD is Mary Greenwells Plum which smells simultaneously warming and clean on a freezing day .Accidentally sprayed myself with the Lemon first and couldn't register anything but a faint bitterness.

LesIncompetents · 27/01/2017 17:30

So jealous of your eBay score Baroness! I haven't found any bargains for yonks.

SOTD is Oriza L Legrand's Deja la Printemps, very green and figgy. It feels a bit unseasonal in the cold weather so might keep the rest for spring and summer.

Gatekeeper · 28/01/2017 13:50

Had a lovely day yesterday sniffing round the perfume department of Binns and had a lovely chat with the lady on Guerlain counter. Had a good sniff of Mitsouko and it doesn't smell anything like I thought it would. Vol de Nuit is lovely and I liked l'Heure Bleu as well. Gave me a sample of La Petite Robe Noire Intense in the blue bottle- rather nice

I spotted my dear old dad's signature smelly- Terre D'Hermes so went and had a sniff of it. To my horror I started to cry when I smelled it- the poor assistant didn't know what to do apart from pass me a hankie and run for the older assistant. I managed to tell her the reason and she commiserated as she had the same reaction when she smelled Shalimar as it was the only one her mam wore. Oh dear...

Got my scent samples from www.scentsamples.uk.com/ today and a ebay sample of Sisleys Soir d'Orient. Can't spray them today as I'm afraid I feel rather yak today due to one two many gins last night. Bleurghhh

MsRinky · 28/01/2017 14:23

Ooh, envious, I love Maroc Pour Elle even more than LADDM.

OCSockOrphanage · 28/01/2017 14:59

Some samples dropped into the mailbox this morning so I am testing the Ile au Thé. It's so similar to one of my favourites Eau Parfumé au Thé Vert that it's disconcerting. Looking forward to sniffing the others, and Flowers to the kind donor.
