Continuing from the previous thread. It's always so lovely to see new posters come and talk perfume. Everyone is welcome. Come and tell us your SOTD ( scent of the day) or ask us anything perfumey. Someone will know the answer! Get stuck in and get sniffing. You'll find no snobbery here!

SotMorning- En Passant.

Quite.

It passed.

Opens with an interesting almond hit which vanishes immediately into something slightly less interesting than Anais Anais.

Reminds me of every other safe white floral.

Meh.

BaronessBomburst · 16/01/2017 08:33

Grin @ SIL needing more perfume in her life.

SOTD is La Maroc Pour Elle.
Just beautiful.

user1471503992 · 16/01/2017 09:15

I like 4160 too - I know what people mean about the fruity base (which isn't for me) but that's really dependent on which ones you try. The set called something like 7 Sins or Passions are mostly woody bases, and I also like Rome, and Who Knew - I have a 30ml bottle of that and I never buy bottles, it's a smoky rose. Dirty Honey is gorgeous, exactly what the name suggests! My colleagues went mad for Mother Nature's Naughty Daughters on me but for me it's a bit too fruity - not sweet like pink sweet stuff though.

user1471503992 · 16/01/2017 09:20

I have some Le Coeur du Desert on order, it sounds great! I only ordered it on Friday though, it'll probably take ages to come.

OCSockOrphanage · 16/01/2017 10:02

Scent sample of the day is TF Italian Cypress, for now. Would have to agree with the poster who judged its PP dupe as too much like aftershave; so is the real thing. Medicinal, harsh and definitely not getting a second outing. Happy to pass it along for someone else to try; MrsCocoa, was it something you mentioned? PM if interested.

Very happy to have renewed acquaintance with my olfactory system! It has been offline since Christmas.

MrsCocoa · 16/01/2017 11:07

Welcome back to you and your nose OC.

Vintage - definitely not pink in the slightest. More glorious technicolour.

Luca Turin describess their house style as baroque.

VintagePerfumista · 16/01/2017 14:32

Well, En Passant was so very En Passant that by the time I went to school it had passed completely so I liberally squirted the fabulous Liz Earle n1. Crisp and green and slightly sour, reminds me of that first hit you get from Chanel 19. Makes me feel grown up and coiffed. Like I'm wearing a lovely linen shirt. Which I'm not Grin

LesIncompetents · 16/01/2017 17:15

I'm eyeing up some more 4160 Tuesdays sample sets now thanks to all your lovely descriptions!

My SOTD is Lyn Harris La Poudree, discontinued by M&S a few years ago, which I'm still cross about. It was a great range- affordable but very good quality.

VintagePerfumista · 17/01/2017 10:09

Sotmorning Nuit de Cellophane. Sample because I liked the description.

Sweet flowers. That's all. Meh.

It will be covered by something with more body in due course.

OCSockOrphanage · 17/01/2017 10:44

Sweet flowers seem to be following you around in the mornings, Vintage!

I had a re-test of Chasse Aux Papillons pre-shower, and nope, still don't like it, the tuberose or the jasmine, whatever... not on me.

So post shower it was time to give the PP By Killian Imperial Tea a run. Not fond of the opening notes, but I have loved it 30 minutes in before now. Today it is full of funereal lilies rather than dry black tea.

SockDog will have to tolerate it for now but I am wondering if the sinusitis that has afflicted me for the last three weeks has affected my likes and dislikes as I am more acutely sensitive to smell than for many months. Or is it old age?

VintagePerfumista · 17/01/2017 13:47

I am now basking in a big whooomph of Paloma Picasso which is just lovely and very moi. Wandered back to school thinking "why have I never had a full bottle of this before" I've always liked it, and always considered it for FB but somehow never got round to it.

It's intriguing because it segues effortlessly between a hippy oriental musky hairy biker scent to quite a classy chypre.

MrsCocoa · 17/01/2017 20:50

Vintage is your PP the one in the red box or Mon Parfum?

SotD is Yatagan.

VintagePerfumista · 18/01/2017 05:59

It's a miniature from an old set called Premiere Collection that I snagged on ebay.

It's the Eau de Parfum I just noticed.

I am about to go to school for one hour so will spritz myself lovingly with (undoubtedly) another white flower minger after which I shall come back and complain and then have a shower and put something nice on. Grin

mathanxiety · 18/01/2017 08:13

What a lovely thread Smile

I got Burberry Brit Rhythm for Christmas and I love it. It seems to be mostly lavender, orange and woody notes on me. I love the lavender. It's not harsh or cheap. It goes really well with a chunky grey jumper and faded jeans. I can see it coming to life in the warmer weather too.

I also loved (very unexpectedly) Viva La Juicy - DD4 got it for Christmas in 2015 and didn't really like it so it's mine now. I found it nice and crisp, and actually quite subtle and grown up.

VintagePerfumista, Coty L'Aimant is/was my mum's scent Smile

My ancient (late 80s) bottle of L'Air du Temps is still going strong, possibly thanks to being lost in a box of stored items for over a decade.

VintagePerfumista · 18/01/2017 09:06

Hello Math! (s'me ex Bucharest and fellow Eurovision geek and sometime troll hunter Wink)

A parcel just arrived with my 80s L'Air du Temps (another ebay snag) it's a gift set with body cream as well. Such a perfect pretty perfume. Makers of GenericWhiteFlower n 4988 and PinkFruit n 9385 should take note. Pretty does not have to be an overdose of saccharine and strawberry synthetic jelly. Grin

In an attempt to avoid white flowers (and because I am back at school in an hour and haven;'t got time to shower) I am sticking with the wondrous Paloma Picasso today. As soon as I get a minute I'm off to buy a bottle.

OCSockOrphanage · 18/01/2017 16:30

Mona di Orio Lux today. This is becoming a favourite, it starts with a burst of lemon verbena then transforms into a butter soft suede and it stays pleasantly close to the skin. If I bought FBs, it would be a contender.

mathanxiety · 18/01/2017 18:29

Bucharest!!
I was wondering where you had got to.

VintagePerfumista · 18/01/2017 20:36
Grin

Currently experimenting with real Paloma Picasso on left hand and Perfume Parlour PP on the other (overdose of Ps tonight)

PP is sweeter, similar, but sweeter. Maybe because my real PP is a parfum not a toilette and so is more intense.

Don't you have any FBs OC? How do you resist?

OCSockOrphanage · 19/01/2017 09:38

I do have FBs, but most are nearly vintage apart from the Infusion d'Iris which DS gave me for my big birthday last year! They tend to go back to my perfumista baby steps when I thought I had to have everything I liked. From memory I have several Hermes (Jardins series) bought as each was released, Eau Parfumée au Thé Vert, Y, Chergui and Eau des Merveilles, Serpentine (CdG). Then I discovered samples and decants. Otherwise, it's spritz-y colognes and cheap thrills only.

This morning the postman has brought a PP parcel, containing Sahara Noire and a Rowja oudh to fuel my incense habit, plus a 15ml spray Noire de Noire which I like best of the Tom Ford's I've tried and 15ml of the Sycomore dupe. I have dabs of each on each elbow and wrist just to sniff. The Sycomore dupe is particularly lifting my boat this morning!

But the other post was a disappointment; I bought my niece some lovely snuggly mohair socks for her birthday and they have sent extra small instead of small, which means exchanging them so she won't get them on Sunday.

VintagePerfumista · 19/01/2017 10:27

Hah- I am in PP Sahara Noir this morning. It reminds me of the black can of Impulse in the 80s. Nirvana it was called.

It won't be going either in the minger box or the FB one. Grin

I didn't get Noir de Noir....I got Tobacco Vanilla (minger box) and Tuscan leather (need to try again, but not high on my list of luscious leathers so far)

itwillbebetter · 19/01/2017 14:40

Inspired by this thread I had a little peruse on PP and my order came today. The first one that I tried is the dupe for Musc Ravageur and I am in love.

I haven't smelt the original but this is just amazing. I'm only just starting to learn about perfumes but when I first smelt this I immediately got a fizzy sweetness, almost like breathing in the fizz from a very cold glass of coke. It has now settled into a lovely spicy warmness and I'm glad I am alone as I keep sniffing myself!
I am hoping to get an decant of the original but I've heard that it has been played around by ( Estee Lauder? ) and is not as good as it once was?

LesIncompetents · 19/01/2017 14:50

OC Can I ask where you got your MdO sample from? A few years ago I found a European perfumery that sold MdO minis for a really good price and I can't remember the name. It was something like 8€ for 5mls- wish I'd ordered more!

SOTD is L'Occitane Eau d'Iparie, sweet and smoky loveliness. I hear they've brought this one and some of their other discontinued ones back, so I now have an extra excuse to go sniffing at the weekend!

OCSockOrphanage · 19/01/2017 15:04

LesIncompetents, it came from here but they only have two of the range, the other was Cuir.

Vintage, Sahara Noire is waiting for a proper test, but the incense it has to beat is the Heeley Cardinal, which is properly ritual stuff.

Decided to wear Sycomore today predictable, moi? and am shocked at the resemblance to the opening notes of MMM Untitled. It's that whoosh of galbanum; five hours on, including Pilates and SockDog's walk, it's settled back to very quiet woodiness. It may even need a top up.

VintagePerfumista · 19/01/2017 15:37

I have just been online shopping....15ml of Vintage Dune. Of which I am fairly sure I know the provenance.....Wink I was tempted to just mail them and ask if I could buy their whole bottle.....but have bought half of it!

I added some L'Heure Bleue to that order, as despite being sure I had some somewhere, I can't find it so may be mistaken.

Then I pootled along to AllaVioletta (thanks Frugal for the link) and ordered some more LADDM, some Coeur du desert and Carillon pour une ange, some Y, some Yvresse and some Kouros (don't ask, just think nostalgia Grin)

I feel very satisfied.

LesIncompetents · 19/01/2017 16:48

Thanks OC! I feel a sample buying binge coming on Grin
