Continuing from the previous thread. It's always so lovely to see new posters come and talk perfume. Everyone is welcome. Come and tell us your SOTD ( scent of the day) or ask us anything perfumey. Someone will know the answer! Get stuck in and get sniffing. You'll find no snobbery here!

Blush We could have come to an arrangement, Vintage. For some reason, I thought you weren't totally enamoured.

The TF Noir de Noir decant has gone down quickly, hence the PP dupe. It is, as MrsCocoa observed above, a lovely rose chypre and I like it better than PoAL and maybe as much as Eau Suave... though I have drained two samples of Suave and it's on my very short FB wishlist, and I would have succumbed but PdE only do 100ml bottles.

Judydreamsofhorses · 19/01/2017 19:27

I've not been on this thread for ages - have had a cold that's lasted about six weeks which has seriously damaged my sense of smell/taste. Anyway, today I have a sample of Tauer Lonestar Memories and think I'm in love.

VintagePerfumista · 19/01/2017 20:45

I have one of those Judy, I may try it tomorrow.

Smile OC- when I first got your sample of Dune, whilst it transported me immediately back to 1990-ish, it wasn't a visceral nostalgia thing like many perfumes have...but it's become my go-to evening comfort scent, so warm and smiley a perfume, if that makes sense.

I think it's splendidly serendipitous that I've bought (your Gran's iirc?) perfume. Flowers

Judy- you are a fellow 19 lover iirc? I was going to treat myself to a sample of parfum from the samples site, but they didn't have enough, probably for the best (says my paypal account)

MrsCocoa · 19/01/2017 20:58

OC - we've caught your virus!

Got an Obsession decant for nostalgic reasons over the holidays - was a bit disappointed by how straightforward it smelt.

MrsCocoa · 19/01/2017 21:14

Thanks for the L'Occitane tip. Ambre is back - highly recommended if you're looking for an easy to wear, comforting winter fragrance.

Judydreamsofhorses · 19/01/2017 21:34

vintage it's my birthday next month so I ordered quite a few samples from Les Senteurs. This is just lovely. Will be interested to know what you think. I also have the Tauer Moroccan one, and a couple of Frederic Malles to try. My only worry is they are all a bit "warm" and might not be so wearable when we get to spring/summer. (Ages away, I know, but I am desperate to crack out my Heeley Sel Marin again.) And yes, I am a 19 lover - it's my long term partner, but I have many dalliances!

Gatekeeper · 19/01/2017 21:38

I thought you lot might like to see the beautiful bottle of 'scent' that belonged to my late Aunt- a formidable lady Grin (never called it perfume - only low class women called it that)!!

My dad and his brothers had a day trip to France in either 1937 or 1938 and bought her it back...it still has about half an inch in the bottom

Gatekeeper · 19/01/2017 21:43

...and I've just ordered samples of Frederic Malle Musc Rav, Mona de Orio Lux and a 5ml decant of Amazone- I bloody loved that when I was a young 'un

OCSockOrphanage · 20/01/2017 10:42

Oooh, I loved Amazone too; it was my signature from about 17 - 22! Has it been reformulated? Would be interested in your thoughts when it arrives as I haven't spotted it for ages.

Trying out the TF Noir de Noir and its PP dupe (one on each wrist) while doing the housework. The real thing has much more rose, while the PP delivered a burst of mint upfront. The drydowns are also very different, and on this occasion, the original is better, rounder, fuller and more complex.

Very sorry to hear of all the colds interfering with peeps' perfume pleasure. This virus is a bstrd; it took ages to clear up. Hoping some colder weather and more UV will control its spread. It is fabulous here today, crisp, sunny and clear, for the third consecutive day. Fingers crossed for the weekend!

OCSockOrphanage · 20/01/2017 10:47

Vintage, it was a bottle I bought for my Gran, because she was always nicking a spritz of mine when we went to west Africa together. Sadly she didn't open it and enjoy it herself, so it was returned to me after she died. She would have loved the idea of it going around and becoming a favourite 20+ years on. I stopped using it after some random bloke across a railway carriage said how much he'd liked it for a 200 mile journey: decided it must be unsuitable for office/business wear!

Gatekeeper · 20/01/2017 12:54

OC I got the Amazone here

It's on it's way so shall report back

VintagePerfumista · 21/01/2017 06:08

Smile OC- I shall wear it with pride. (I may also go back and snaffle the remaining 14ml) (their postage is mahoosive though)

Oh me oh my, the Coeur du Desert arrived (overnight courier, I only ordered Thursday afternoon) Well isn't it just magnificent?

As is Lonestar Memories....similar at outset to LADDM but stays sharper rather than veering off towards Opium sweetness later on.

Obviously I need full bottles of the whole shebang. Grin Whoever would have thought a geeky Swiss chemist could produce such sublime perfumes? I confess to never having even looked at his stuff until you lot raved about them....

MrsC- was your Obsession an old decant? I've read that the new stuff "isn't a patch on the original" and must admit, when I smelled the present stuff a year or so back it wasn't as dark and skanky. Or maybe it's me who isn't dark and skanky anymore...Obsession was very much my glory days perfume, men (well, boys Grin) would literally stop me on the streets and ask me what it was.

I love those Evening in Paris bottles Gatekeeper- over Christmas when I had lost my MN log-in I even converted my hometown's Living Memory page on FB to talking about perfume lol- someone posted one of those bottles and we took off talking about all the perfumes our Mums and Grans would have when we were kids. Your story is fantastic- don't ever let that bottle go!

Might have a wander round the online L'Occitane shelves....don't think I've ever smelled anything of theirs that wasn't lovely. Even the ones that sound like they are going to be pink'n'fruity aren't.

barefoofdoctor · 21/01/2017 07:14

Am very very pleased to discover that Rosie 'Nuit' perfume for trusty old M&S and Rosie 'Rosie' perfume are lovely (and cheap!). They also layer up well together and are much more subtle than the stinkers I usually go for (Agent Provocateur original, Hypnotic Poison and Lust from Lush - Which my Mother has forbidden me from wearing in her presence and I cannot buy as it stains clothes and jewellery badly and lingers forever even post wash).

OCSockOrphanage · 21/01/2017 15:35

Andy Tauer is clearly a genius. It's just a very good thing (for my bank balance, if not my soul) that it's not easy to sample the range. Looking forward to hearing all about them Vintage!

LesIncompetents · 21/01/2017 17:16

Totally agree with the Tauer love. I've had my samples for a few years as they are so strong that I find the tiniest amount lasts all day (still can't help lusting after those beautiful bottles though!)

SOTD is Chopard Casmir, love the boozy vanilla opening. It was a bargain too!

forgottenusername · 21/01/2017 18:38

Hello lovely smelly people :) It's my birthday next month and I would like to ask for some grown up perfume (last time I wore any it was either my Mum's Charlie or Body Shop White Musk...).

So I went into Boots and asked for some suggestions. I don't want to spend £££ as I'm not sure if I'll remember to use it! I'm planning to wear it for work (I'm attempting to be more grown up and professional aged 44!). I said to start with citrusy ones as I normally use lime scented shower gel so didn't want to clash!

I've come away with CKone on my right arm and CKin2u for her on my left. I like them (the in2u one more than the one) so maybe I should stop there, but I wonder if there's something better?I didn't really have time to sniff more as I'd run out of arms(!) and the shop was closing... I can go back in the week to try more, but what next?

thank you :)

Judydreamsofhorses · 21/01/2017 20:14

SOTD is Black Opium. I was really taken with this in the run-up to Christmas and scored a gift box really cheaply online in the sales. Not sure it's really me, as I'm not usually a vanilla-y type, but it was cosy on a cold day.

Judydreamsofhorses · 21/01/2017 20:17

forgotten I am not a citrus fan but I think you could do much better than those. If you're looking for something light then maybe look at the Elizabeth Arden green tea line, O de Lancôme, or something like Chanel Cristalle (not citrus but lovely and fresh) to start with? Hopefully someone more clued up will be along soon though.

OCSockOrphanage · 21/01/2017 20:24

Forgotten, have a look and a spray of the Dior Escales. Light colognes, with a citrus eau base. They don't last very long but are fresh and well mannered if you are wearing them at work.

forgottenusername · 21/01/2017 21:05

thank you both :) I think you've confirmed what I was thinking - they're nice, but not quite nice enough (maybe!) Back to the shop next week. I've got a few weeks to work it out, I'll try and find those you've recommended :)

MrsCocoa · 21/01/2017 21:58

Forgotten - perhaps have a sniff around the Aqua Di Parma range? Or there is a 3 X 15ml Miller Harris citrus set? If you're near a M&S with a decent beauty department check out Monotheme's citruses.

MrsCocoa · 21/01/2017 22:29

TF Sahara Noir fans - a not unreasonably priced bottle has turned up on Ebay this evening if anyone is looking?

Gatekeeper · 22/01/2017 09:06

OC the Amazone came yesterday and I don't like it and despite being EDT the bugger lingers on. Long scrubbing shower this morning! Not sure if reformulated or if it's gone off or if I've changed. Would you like me to send you it and you can try it out?

JC23 · 22/01/2017 09:20

Hi lovely friendly perfume people. I was wondering if you could help me with some perfume ideas? I sadly don't own any perfume and would like to fix the situation and I recently discovered that websites exist where you can buy tiny samples to try.
I would like to get a few but I don't know where to start! My favourite perfume (in my limited experience) is Chance by Chanel. I also like Let It Rock by Vivienne Westwood. I sadly can't afford Chanel so I'm hoping to find something similar and cheaper. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thank you

OCSockOrphanage · 22/01/2017 12:57

JC23, are you in the Southeast and able to get to London? If so, you could go to Les Senteurs, as well as all the big department stores. Between them all you should be able to sample almost everything on the market. Les Senteurs can also be very helpful over the phone if you get the right person during a quiet period, and they will make suggestions. In store, they will make you samples without charge (or they used to) but by phone or online they charge quite a bit but the advantage is the breadth of stock and not being linked to one counter.

Lots of the perfume houses do sample sets and many will offset the cost of them or give you a discount if you end up buying a full bottle.
