Continuing from the previous thread. It's always so lovely to see new posters come and talk perfume. Everyone is welcome. Come and tell us your SOTD ( scent of the day) or ask us anything perfumey. Someone will know the answer! Get stuck in and get sniffing. You'll find no snobbery here!

The lady at the perfume counter recommended coco to me and was most put out I didn't like it
Well...that's not true. I didn't dislike it, it just wasn't strong enough for me
There's a bottle of cinnabar on eBay
I must not twitch!!

VintagePerfumista · 15/12/2016 18:35

I have just been paid and finished 4 hours of parents evening so am going to go and find a vintage Paris or Rive Gauche or something to treat myself with.

I wore PP Infusions d'Iris after my shower as after not showering for 3 days and heaping LADDM on myself I wanted something clean and soapy. Then I went browsing in local shop and spotted the Burberrys was all on offer so sacrificed my good taste for a squirt of a couple thinking of dd and Christmas.

Bleargh. Ran home wishing my arm was further away from my nose. Sweet, sickly, revolting (Burberry Body) straightforward sweet and sugary "Burberry Burberry and something like a sweet and yet sour deodorant (Burberry weekend) 19 euro each. Nah.

Wore Chanel 19 to parents evening to scare parents off with my sophistication.

OCSockOrphanage · 15/12/2016 19:31

Until you get rich, Fuckery, the Amouage dupe from PP is lovely and a very good analogue for the original (which is as spendy as Roja). They review incredibly well on PP and although I'm cooking dinner and can't be bothered to review now, would have to say I am impressed: rich, subtle, complex. The Roja was wonderful, but at £8 per ml, it's fantasy island. You would have to be an investment banker or movie star to get fixated. Worth a trip to Harrods or Selfridges or Liberty for a (free) sniff. And Boadicea the Victorious, while you are there. I had never realised the level of intensity perfume can achieve. I am beyond saving .

OCSockOrphanage · 16/12/2016 15:17

And the PP Memoirs was still wafting from my arm this morning! It's spicy warm and honeyed, so I topped it up but will have a change for this evening. Maybe the Italian Cypress Mrs Cocoa suggested sampling, as DS and I are going out for pizza.

You are all busy helping Santa I guess!

MrsCocoa · 16/12/2016 17:44

Quick heads-up: flash fragrance event online at TK MAXX; lots of Bond No.9 (still ££s, but not usual £££s).

user1471503992 · 16/12/2016 21:41

I didn't wear perfume today as brutally hungover, but i had my sample of LADDM in my handbag from last night's work Christmas party and my bag smells lovely!

user1471503992 · 16/12/2016 21:43

I haven't had new samples for a while as still haven't received Coromandel from the Etsy seller either, and the other two samples from there were a wash-out too - I found Cuir de Russie overwhelmingly strong and with a whiff of imperial leather soap, and Bois de Violette made me feel sick and headachey.

AnotherPinkiePieStory · 17/12/2016 08:33

Arghh mrs may need to check that out!
I'm wearing TF fleur de chine. Lovely. On holiday in Copenhagen and just right.

VintagePerfumista · 17/12/2016 12:55

I am in Ysatis vintage.

I am not to everyone's tastes for sure, but I smell 80s in yer face wintery ambery good to me!

Badders123 · 17/12/2016 13:23

I wore ysatis in the 80s! It was fab
My aunt gave me a bottle of amarige too but I wasn't as keen on that one

user1471503992 · 17/12/2016 13:47

I tried Ambre Sultan in House of Fraser thanks to this thread and wow! I want a decant of this! It has a slight hint of cola bottle sweets to start with but then it develops and it's gorgeous, rich and ambery and balsamic. I'm intrigued by Fille d'aiguilles too, they don't have that in HoF. I find with SL that they have to be tried on skin, they smell odd on paper. I haven't used that sample shop before, I am trying to avoid spending money on myself before Christmas, but now I am very tempted and samples are so cheap...

GetAHaircutCarl · 17/12/2016 14:18

Anyone seen the Times today?

Lesley Thomas has some scent recommendations in the magazine.

Feminine Du Bois.
Mandarino di Amalfi.
Chanel Sycomore.
Portrait of a Lady.
Molecule 01
Rodin Bis
Santal 33.

OCSockOrphanage · 17/12/2016 14:27

Thanks for the nod MrsC, but I think I'd better pass on that. The only Bond 9 ones I've tried have been the wrong ones... in fact I have about 2.5ml of New Haarlem looking for a new home. Google the ingredients and if it appeals to anyone here, please PM me. Be warned that the sum of its parts came as a definite surprise. Bergamot and lavender are mentioned but didn't smell right to me.

A new sample: Lux, Mona di Orio (now the late IIRC). I had a sample of another from her line ages ago from Les Senteurs and cannot remember its name, just that it was divine but too dressy (and £££) for me. This is one of two SS had listed (the other was Cuir). Called Lux, it starts with a blast of crisp glittering neroli for about five minutes, then it calms down to a butter rich soft leather. What it will be like after I've done the Christmas tree, who knows; will comment if it's great. Would think this likely to interest the leather fans here; although it's not a genre I've paid attention to before today, I could be ripe for conversion.

BaronessBomburst · 17/12/2016 17:19

SOTD is PP Black Orcheeds.
And another one here who wore Ysatis in the 80's.

I've ordered some more samples from Andy Tauer. LADDM of course, and Une Rose Chypree as I love them sooooo much. Then, to try, Incense Extreme, Au Cour de Desert, La Maroc Pour Elle, and Sotto La Luna Tuberose.
This is my third Tauer order now so I opened an account.

AnotherPinkiePieStory · 17/12/2016 19:46

carl (hope that's not too informal) thanks for the list. I wouldn't have known any 6 months ago and thanks to this thread, have tried most!

SOTD: cuir de russie for dinner out. Lovely but am I grown up enough?!?

Dowser · 17/12/2016 22:29

Dh bought me for Christmas 24 fauberg and Estée Lauder youth dew

Couldn't find anything new, so went for tried and tested and youth dew ...well a nod to the 70s

FlouncedBack · 17/12/2016 23:15

My sample of Portrait of a lady arrived today, it's a good job it was in a little suede bag or I don't think I would have found it in the envelope.
I couldn't wait to try it so a couple of squirts on wrist and neck and waited... My first thoughts were that it must be fake...there was a strong scent of grapefruit and snuff but after it settled down the sweetness came through I wasn't disappointed. It's thanks to this thread that I bought the sample, something I would never have done without the descriptions of the informative posts on here. I love it - from the 2 quick squirts of scent this morning it's still there now - I catch a whiff of it now and again which is lovely.

Badders123 · 18/12/2016 00:53

Love youth dew Smile

Badders123 · 18/12/2016 09:39

Oh I really am going to have to get some POAL dupe aren't I?

VintagePerfumista · 18/12/2016 09:42

Do you like rose? If so, yes.

It's a pretty powdery rose.

It's nothing special IMO.

I have decided, on a sample of about 6 Grin that both Lutens and Malle are over-rated but I want Andy Tauer's babies.

GetAHaircutCarl · 18/12/2016 10:01

After a problematic start with POAL, it's now grown on me.

Which is lucky as I have a full bottle of the stuff and it's so £££.

It doesn't become powdery on me at all, rather it stays very kick ass, with that initial rose shot hitting me all day - serious longevity on this one.

Maybe that's what I found so difficult about it? On me it doesn't mellow or even change much. After the dry down, the hits just keep on coming. Which can be a bit much.

Badders123 · 18/12/2016 11:45

I like rose and powder Smile

GetAHaircutCarl · 18/12/2016 11:57

One of my favourite rose/powder scents in Kenzo Flower.

FrustratedFrugal · 18/12/2016 12:20

PinkiePie I often wonder whether I am grown up enough for Cuir de Russie! Might wear it while I am Christmas shopping just to get a bit more respect...

Another perfume that has makes me feel very grown-up is L'Heure Bleue.

Tauer's perfumes are fantastic.

OCSockOrphanage · 18/12/2016 14:26

Vintage , you may be right. POAL is pleasant enough but the notion of a bottle hasn't entered my mind. Apparently the Malles are being tinkered with under the Estee Lauder corporate umbrella. Does anyone know more?

SL is such a huge range that there are bound to be some that don't reach the giddy heights. I tried one this week that I liked, and will try again but the name is eluding me.. it might have been Un Bois Vanillée.

Sadly, until I go somewhere to try the rest of the Tauer's, I am on the fence: Rose Chyprée is my favourite to date, and like, don't love, Lonesome Rider. LADDM didn't hit my spot, nor the other one I had and Lonestar Memories is too reminiscent of Wrights Coal Tar soap for me. I remain to be convinced but it's probably only a matter of meeting the "one".

Prada Iris today, (there was a squirt left in the car sample) but it's a bit chilly for it.
