Continuing from the previous thread. It's always so lovely to see new posters come and talk perfume. Everyone is welcome. Come and tell us your SOTD ( scent of the day) or ask us anything perfumey. Someone will know the answer! Get stuck in and get sniffing. You'll find no snobbery here!

Flouncedback- if you want rose and talc then you want what I've got on today- in honour of everyone on this thread trying it at some point...I am in Portrait of a Lady. I love the initial Paris-style zingy rose, and the powdery drydown is nice enough, but it's a bit generic powder to me.

I do like the initial sharp rose hit though.

BaronessBomburst · 12/12/2016 22:56

I've had adventures and disasters perfume-wise in the last couple of weeks.
The adventures have been discovering Serge Lutyens locally!
Fille de Berlin is beautiful, as is Chergui. Arabie less so; it smells like an Indian grocery shop. I love Indian grocery shops. I just don't want to smell like one.
I also found JHAG Not A Perfume - nooooo! I hate hate HATE that smell.
Oh, and a whole range of Estée Lauder. Knowing was okay.
And FlowerBomb. Not what I expected though.

My disasters. :(
My Chanel Coco is a nasty fake that burns. Long story short, I messaged the seller and got a load of abuse. I know the police won't care so that's money down the drain.
My Coromandel etc samples from that Scottish etsy seller didn't arrive so I chased it up. Her reply was that she'd ask at the post office and then maybe resend. Well, ten days on and I've still not heard from her. At least that was PayPal so I'll claim. I really don't recommend her. I might take my chance with the Russian on eBay instead.

VintagePerfumista · 13/12/2016 06:15

That's a PITA about the Etsy woman. I am having a similar issue with some Etsy vintage Christmas decorations which the seller claims have been couriered (but oddly no tracking available) and she keeps getting on at them and hurrying them up and and and.....

I went to bed in Nuit de Cellophane which I ordered because I sniffed a fantastic SL over the summer and couldn't remember what it was. It wasn't NdC which is generic sweet.

TWOBANANAS · 13/12/2016 07:59

Heat by Beyonce is my new favourite. £10 for a 100ml bottle of edp and it is absolutely gorgeous.

AnotherPinkiePieStory · 13/12/2016 09:09

bananas I too like a cheeky Beyoncé scent. So cheap I spray with gay abandon whereas jo Malone cologne gets a careful spritz.
Just realised I'm at work with no scent. Lordy, will rectify with m&s New York that is cheerful and does the job. Pp order still calling me and figure I should complete sale or not receive before xmas. Now at 9 spray bottles as I didn't enjoy roll ons. Women of scented MN I blame you!

Badders123 · 13/12/2016 09:11

If you can find it and want powdery I would suggest sun moon stars by lagerfeld
Gorgeous
I used to get slot of comments when I wore it

Badders123 · 13/12/2016 09:12

I feel like I want to have another go to perfume (knowing by Estée Lauder for me ATM)
I like cinnabar but want something less heavy
So a floral Oriental/oriental...thoughts?

OCSockOrphanage · 13/12/2016 09:50

Diorissima! For no good reason except it was on top of my samples and I have not smelled it in forever.

Drums fingers impatiently waiting for my PP dupes, plus I have a load of TF samples coming from Scent Samples. On recommendations here, I chose Grey Vetiver, Noir de Noir, Plum Japonais and an oud. I would have added the Sahara Noir as I am loving Heeley Cardinal but not one he has. Then had a long chat with the vendor by phone and he's added a couple of things he thought I should try including an oud from Roja Dove, so I am keen to see the postie! Next week's strike may be a problem but R4 says it's not affecting deliveries, just counters.

VintagePerfumista · 13/12/2016 10:35

I am in Dans Tes Bras which is pretty, yet underwhelming. Nice drydown, but no sillage whatsoever. Am about to go back to class and can't smell anything. It was initially violets. In a pretty generic violet kind of way. Less old lady than Apres L'Ondee I suppose as it doesn't mute to powder.

I'd even forgotten it wasn't Nuit de Cellophane till I just looked up there and realised that was last night.

MontanaSkies · 13/12/2016 10:44

I love Chergui too baroness. Am in SL Ambre Sultan today. I love the rich opulent wafts I keep getting, am sure it's making me feel warmer too.

Plus there's a perverse pleasure in wearing something so rich and beautiful whilst pushing a pram around and wearing distinctly unglamorous waterproofs Grin

Stokey · 13/12/2016 11:55

OWF what's your Portrait of a lady dupe?

I've asked for a FB for Christmas but think Dh is baulking at the price (understandably!)

VintagePerfumista · 13/12/2016 14:32

I went back to school in LADDM which obvs is my new favourite!

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 13/12/2016 17:41

Pp Stokey. I may have fallen off the wagon and bought the Nuit de Ambre and something else. I'm not keen on the rollons either the sprays seem to last longer.

JazzfluteIntervention · 13/12/2016 17:50

I love Ambre Sultan, and also like wearing it in hot weather as it feels all sultry and exotic.

My SOTD is a tester of Malle's Iris Poudre. I don't think it works for me, sadly. It seems sour. I don't like Portrait of a Lady either as it seems to make me melancholy, but do rather like Lipstick Rose.

BaronessBomburst · 13/12/2016 18:05

No, Vintage, no!
LAADM is all mine!

FlouncedBack · 14/12/2016 09:55

VintagePerfumista, Badders Thankyou for the recommendations, I've ordered a sample of, Portrait of a Lady and hopefully will find a tester/sample of, Sun Moon Stars to try.

I also found Flower Bomb to be an anti climax, it does nothing for me and I love floral perfumes as a general rule. I bought it after buying 'Flower Boom' (a small oil based roll on scent that is as cheap as chips) which is divine - it's the scent of flowers and the fresh greenery in a summer bouquet.

Calminaqualm · 14/12/2016 11:38

Baroness what a shame about your fake Chanel Coco. So far, I've been lucky with buying samples, discounted perfumes and EBay bargains. But I know I'm going to get caught one day! I'm still waiting for a sample of Bois des Iles from the Scottish Etsy lady. I ordered it, and paid for it, back in October, but nothing so far. She keeps giving me consoling little messages that she is expecting it in soon. I've been caught, haven't I? Two other samples I ordered from her have been safely received, though.

My SOTD is Serge Lutens Fleurs d'Oranger. It's a beautiful orange blossom with jasmine, tuberose and a hint of cumin. I love the butteriness of the tuberose which gives a depth to it.

MsRinky · 14/12/2016 11:52

SOTD is OdeJo, because it was in my Liberty advent calendar. I do quite like, especially now the top notes of cucumber have calmed down a bit, but it is definitely a summer scent and not a December one!

OCSockOrphanage · 14/12/2016 14:21

I am warning you upfront, it's for anoraks only!

Fingers crossed and touching wood, I've never not received goods or bought perfume fakes we won't mention ds's raybans.

Postie brought samples today from Perfume Parlour and from Scent Samples, so I had two teeny tests, one on each wrist, to try before walking SockDog.

Noir de Noir (TF) was lovely, a deep rose chypre which I can see myself reaching for lots. Then Imperial Tea (PP) which just sounded fascinating when I read the description. The first hit was fairly unappealing, but 20 minutes afterwards, it smelt delicious, like a fresh pot of very high quality black tea. Nothing else much, but unless someone tells me it's rank (I am anosmic to musk) I predict it could become an regular because like good tea, it's reviving, warming and refreshing at the same time.

Post ablutions, time for a treat: the Roja Amber Aoud ml gifted by the site owner. I read the scent notes for this one because there are so many ingredients. It starts quite bright with top notes of lime and lemon, then softens around to rose de mai, jasmine and fig. The base notes are saffron, oakmoss, musk, with some patch and orris as well as the aoud. Then I looked at what it costs! Over £500 for 100ml. It is astonishing, very complex and I am thrilled to have tried it out and to have some for another test in hot weather. Seriously unlike anything in my previously scented existence, it's an Alice in Wonderland moment but, (whisper it), possibly not an everyday delight. I need wafting to Paradise, not the trip to Tesco foretold by the stars.

Badders123 · 14/12/2016 14:22

Im so so tempted by cinnabar on eBay but worried about dodgy sellers

VintagePerfumista · 14/12/2016 15:03

I am the one who linked to the etsy woman, and now feel v guilty. All my samples from her arrived with no problem. Blush

I am still in LADDM as I haven't showered in days

I did wonder as I bent over a student this morning if she would think I had rubbed some kind of balsam on myself for a chesty cough as it seemed very medicinal suddenly.

Time for a shower and a change I think!

BaronessBomburst · 15/12/2016 14:01

Right, which one of you horrible lot bought the LADDM on eBay this morning?
First bottle in six months +, put on my max bid (we were going to eat baked bean sandwiches for the foreseeable future) and was outbid by £2 in the last second. Waaaah!

Vintage I don't blame you. I'd already found her on google.

SOTD is Coco Mademoiselle after a friend heard about my fake bottle misfortune and bought me a real one as a present.
Yes. I know......

DH said he'll buy me Coco (yes the BLACK one. Nooo! Not Noire) for Christmas.
I'll let you know what happens.......

BaronessBomburst · 15/12/2016 14:12

Coco Mademoiselle is beautiful. I'm not complaining. And the thought was very sweet and very generous. I wouldn't have picked it myself but it's growing on me.
I'm not in AIBU am I?

OCSockOrphanage · 15/12/2016 17:48

It wasn't me, Baroness! LADDM is lovely, but not on me as it turns a bit medicinal. Had it been Rose Chypree, I might have been guilty but this month's perfume budget has been paid to Perfume Parlour for some Amouage dupes and a couple of others that fell into my cart. The Scent Samples delivery don't count as spending because I was using a credit.

SoTD has been the Grey Vetiver, which is as chilly and grey as my hair. It's very straightforward vetiver but it has faded to the point that I may go and ponder a top up for the evening. DH is away, so I can choose a monster without fear of adverse comment.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 15/12/2016 17:54

My pp came today, disappointed with the ambre nuit dupe, it smells sharp, a bit bo-IE, not rich and smooth like the real thing. The vol de nuit though. It's lovely, but! Very like one of my old faves Sublime.
When I'm rich again (ha) I'm having some of them Scent Samples. That Roja sounds amazing Socks.
