Continuing from the previous thread. It's always so lovely to see new posters come and talk perfume. Everyone is welcome. Come and tell us your SOTD ( scent of the day) or ask us anything perfumey. Someone will know the answer! Get stuck in and get sniffing. You'll find no snobbery here!

I need to retry my Lonestar Memories to see if it's coaltar soap!

Now then perfumistas...I am flying to the UK on Tuesday...and obviously need to pack some perfumes....(note my priorities....Christmas present wrapping? Ironing? Christmas cards? Who is going to feed the cat on the 3 days we don't have him covered? Nope. Just which perfumes shall I pack....)

Do I go for a handful of samples? A couple of miniatures? Or one full bottle?

OCSockOrphanage · 18/12/2016 14:49

Handful of samples, obviously. Then you have choices. And if you should find anything fabulous in duty free, you can justify buying it on the basis that you haven't brought an FB with you... win! Grin

VintagePerfumista · 18/12/2016 18:26

Ha ha, OK.

Am in Givenchy III today. And noticed my bottle is running low, so hey ho hey ho, it's off to ebay I go.

lasttimeround · 18/12/2016 18:41

OK just to make it official I asked for a perfume society membership for Xmas from dh. If I don't get it i will be quietly miffed. Really really want it...

lasttimeround · 18/12/2016 18:42

Go back to smelling gorgeous lovelies.

VintagePerfumista · 18/12/2016 18:59

I have just bought a vintage set of Avon Moonwind talc and soap and some 80s Paris.

I went there for Givenchy III.

I am incorrigible.

OCSockOrphanage · 18/12/2016 19:44

DS has come home, eaten dinner and gone out again leaving me on my tod, so it's a hefty slug of Noir de Noir. Lovely intense roses, followed by the cough balsalm all TF scents seem to do, and then I hope it will be lovely again in the dry down. The middle notes stop me loving them. I suppose it keeps me from bankruptcy.

OCSockOrphanage · 18/12/2016 19:48

My mum wore Givenchy III in the 60s, then Interdit. It's Mitsouko now for her, but I've never worn any of them except to try.

AnotherPinkiePieStory · 19/12/2016 16:36

frustrated if anyone can rock it, I bet you can!
Ladies I had blissful flight home from Copenhagen with one arm covered in Chanel coromandel and the other in sycomore courtesy of duty free!
Wow gorgeous. Now where did I leave my xmas list!?
vintage if it's not too late, another vote for samples. I'm in SL 5'o clock gingembre. Yum

GetAHaircutCarl · 19/12/2016 19:17

Went shopping today so had a few forays into the department stores.

Tried a lot of Jo Malone stuff. Most of it is very light and fresh which though lovely wasn't hitting any spots today. Velvet Rose and Oud remains my fave - possibly because it isn't cologne-y.

Had a sniff of Shalimar ( spurred by this thread). Nice and dense. The assistant gave me a sample Grin. Plus a few other Guerlain ones ( need to check the bag) because I was buying make up.

Tonight I've had a bath in some oil my mum gave me - it's called Fenjal (?). Lord it's lovely.

GetAHaircutCarl · 19/12/2016 19:23

Jus checked my freebies.

There are three samples ( in addition to Shalinar) ; Mitsouko, Insolence and La Petite Robe Noir.

I've worn and liked the last one in the past; very pretty. There's also a lip stick and a face serum. Very good haul!

OCSockOrphanage · 19/12/2016 20:07

My mum used to adore Fenjal bath oil and talc, Carl. I see it in the chemist in its turquoise packaging and think of her, but she doesn't use it now she has a shower. I think there's a shower gel; might tuck one in her Christmas stocking. Very impressed that you got samples out of the Guerlain counter; they don't dish out freebies here.

SOTD has been TF Plum Japonais, and it's very pleasant, MrsCocoa. The Noir de Noir is my favourite so far.

Aoud Violet was a scrubber... shrieking loud, sharp aftershave, finishing as air freshener. You have all been warned.

GetAHaircutCarl · 19/12/2016 20:13

OCsock I've never come across Fengel before - yes turquoise glass bottle with the bath oil in. Smells delicious.

Am in my PJs enjoying the cloud around me.

As for the Guerlain samples, I did spend a fortune on make up both for me and gifts, plus they keep a record of how much stuff I buy on their PC so know I'm a good customer Blush.

BaronessBomburst · 19/12/2016 20:40

Ooooh Fenjal!
I used to get given a soap every Christmas.

GetAHaircutCarl · 19/12/2016 21:06

DH had just told me I smell great.
He asked if it was 'that stuff from Liberty'.

No love. It's Fengel which I assume is cheap as chips Grin.

VintagePerfumista · 19/12/2016 21:49

I am going to buy some Fenjal for my Christmas baths! It was always vair expensive when I was a child.

My Mum loved Morny Sandalwood.

I have chosen my samples for my trip! LADDM, POAL, Dune, Cuir Cordoba, PP-Prada Infusions Iris, 31 Rue de Cambon, Apres L'Ondee and Bandit. Also tucked in my bottle of Anais Anais for comfort purposes.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 19/12/2016 22:11

My sil always used to buy me fenjal, I love it and the green one that smells a bit piney (minds gone)
I introduced dd to the joys of Guerlain today. She loved ApreÄ— l' Ondee, (violets remind her of dgm) and Vol d nuit. She's 18.
I tried the Mac scents again, the purple one I'm perversely in love with, it smells of rubber. But I've warned dd to tell dh not to buy me perfume (we can't afford what I want Xmas Grin )

MrsCocoa · 19/12/2016 23:55

All this talk of Fenjal almost had me reaching for the Yatagan, but I've been wearing Rapelle-Toi. I scored a bargain set of L'Artisan Explosion D'Emotions 7mls on Ebay. I realise although not a very floral person I do quite like this gardenia (here with incense, honey and musk).

My mother wore Aqua Manda and Elizabeth Arden Blue Grass. The re-released Aqua Manda was a bit of a disappointment - it didn't feel vital or earthy enough, but perhaps that's my memory playing tricks on me?

OC tell us about the Plum Japonais!

MrsCocoa · 20/12/2016 00:01

And talking of L'Artisan, has anyone tried to Traversee du Bosphore? (Or spotted it in TK Maxx?).

PerfumeAndCatsAndBooks · 20/12/2016 07:35

Badedas, fuckery? My favourite bath (I so want to say geleè here Grin) I only get it at Christmas so it's a treat, although when I'm in hospital I always take the Badedas shower gel to cheer me up.

SOTD is Opium as it's my Christmas scent. Only allowed between 13th Dec to 5th Jan. I know this is taking the "scents for particular seasons" to the extreme, but I love a ritual or eight million two!

My Christmas scent used to be Gloria but the fuckers discontinued it Angry Opium is a satisfactory substitute so far Does anyone else have an Only For Christmas Season scent?

Whatthefoxgoingon · 20/12/2016 08:49

I need to buy DF a perfume for Christmas. He likes oudh. Any recommendations? I'm in London so fairly easy for me to go and sniff it unless it's very niche.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 20/12/2016 08:55

That's the bunny Cats! You can get the shower gel cheap as, but it and fenjal were the bees in the 70s.
Speaking of which, I saw Masumi in a shop the other day. Mum had some that I used to Nick.
Can't decide on today, want something decisive as I have loads to do.

OCSockOrphanage · 20/12/2016 09:59

I need to wear the Plum Japonais again to do a proper job; it has good lasting power and is softly filled with blossom and fruit, but quite generically so. I would have concentrated more but spent the afternoon taking repeated calls from DMiL (whose dementia is advancing rapidly) and trying to establish what she's being asked to sign a credit agreement for. We think it might be her buildings and contents insurance, so you can imagine the data protection hoops that have to be jumped.

Trying out the PP Millesimes Imperial (a Creed dupe) but the initial impression is a bit meh. I have tentatively noted that the PP scents (oils, roll on formulations here) that they take a bit of time to reveal themselves.

Good selection of samples you've packed, Vintage. Should cover most moods.

Badedas was the alternative to Fenjal. The commercials were slightly more glamorous than Black Magic, but similar in mood. Horse chestnut invigoration apparently.

BaronessBomburst · 20/12/2016 14:48

I've heard from the Scottish Etsy seller. I opened a 'not received' case. She took two days to respond but when she did she refunded immediately and said she'd resend my order once she'd got some more vials in. Apparently they're due on the 23rd.
Well, if it turns up I'll pay for it.
SOTD was Chance after I accidental sprayed that instead of the Coco Mademoiselle.
they both smell the same to me anyway

MrsCocoa · 20/12/2016 20:31

Bad week. Have cheered myself up with a couple of Ebay purchases: a blind buy of a small bottle of L''Artisan Ambre Extreme, and, to mark the end of my marriage, a tiny bottle of Lush's All Good Things. The latter is the ultimate break-up fragrance. starts of all discordant hell fire, but miraculously resolves into harmonious, sweet and light tonka and anise. Hoping life will imitate art in 2017!
