Continuing from the previous thread. It's always so lovely to see new posters come and talk perfume. Everyone is welcome. Come and tell us your SOTD ( scent of the day) or ask us anything perfumey. Someone will know the answer! Get stuck in and get sniffing. You'll find no snobbery here!

That combo of tar, gunpowder and blood should repel most things OC? Although have just been reading that there were some initial bottling problems, and when aged, this may become much less dissonant. Worth digging out the sample to see - but proceed with caution!

VintagePerfumista · 06/12/2016 05:56

Thanks Calmina! She tends to overspray so I'll go for the ordinary EdT I think!

Went to bed in my sample of Colonia Leather (AdP) Very nice indeedy. Not very long lasting though to say it's a leather, but that just means I can try something else this morning! So many samples to get through now!

If anyone would like my (mini) leather classification it's this:

Cuir Cordoba

The other one I tried last week whose name I've forgotten Blush will look in a minute
AdP Colonia Leather
Cuir de Russie
Cuir Fauve (bit of a sweet minger)

HooArghhhEwe · 06/12/2016 07:55

No SOTD as I popped in to Mecca for a spritz.

Tried two from Maison Fransic Kurkdijan. One was Absolue pour Le soir which was a scrubber and pour Le matin which is lovely but iris and citrus but I bit heavy on the amber for me. Might get a decant.

Next was portrait of a lady which i have never smelled before! Not for me sadly. Lovely smell but not my lovely smell.

Lastly diptyque 34. Nice but a bit too unisex woodsy for me.

OCSockOrphanage · 06/12/2016 10:31

Went to find the 1805 sample, and cannot find it in any of my usual spots so it must have been put in a nuclear waste dump somewhere very safe. However, I have a few ml of Bond No9 New Haarlem. That should keep the swans away! They are fearsome scary birds for people in unstable race canoes.

swimster01 · 06/12/2016 19:08

SOTD is Chergui by Serge Lutens - I ordered some Serge Lutens samples recently and this is my favourite by far. Lovely warm spicy honey perfume - full size bottle on its way for Christmas.

HooArghhhEwe · 07/12/2016 03:16

SOTD is Tom Ford Plum japonais

GetAHaircutCarl · 07/12/2016 07:05

Yesterday's SOTD was Portrait of a Lady.

I still don't love it! But it did grow on me throughout the day - and boy does it last Shock. But that large bottle is making me fill guilty.

Today I'm wearing Jo Malone Oud and Bergomot. Lovely.

MrsCocoa · 07/12/2016 08:22

Sensible precaution OC.

SotD The Great Randello. Talk elsewhere in these parts has sent me off on a tobacco jag. Might need a FB of this.

OCSockOrphanage · 07/12/2016 09:40

Good morning enablers.......... I have popped my PP cherry, and I am ridiculously excited!

Risked a splash of another Bond No9 sample this morning (Saks 5th Ave) and I reckon this would repel swans too. I put Fou d'Absinthe (l'Artisan) on the other wrist to try, and it's very pleasant but the Bond is drowning it out. Must scrub now!

VintagePerfumista · 07/12/2016 09:42

Hmmm. Sotmorning was Frederic Malle Eau d'Hiver.

Which smells precisely of nothing.

As it is apparently supposed to. But if I want to spend ££££s on a perfume then I want it to smell of something ever so slightly more than those crappy "scented" candles you get where everyone sits round going "I can't smell anything, can you?"

I get the gimmick. I do. That it's supposed to smell of "winter". But it doesn't. Yankee melts do. This doesn't, even after a hefty double squirt.

"Perfumes" like this are why at times "niche" irritates me. It should be called Emperor's New Clothes. Wink

OCSockOrphanage · 07/12/2016 10:45

Love Hiver, but know exactly what you mean! I prefer it in early spring when the hawthorn is not quite out but it's only at that time that it smells at all. Angelique sous les Pluies is even worse for smelling of nothing; I took it on a tropical holiday and it disappeared in the heat.

twilightcafe · 07/12/2016 11:25

This thread has inspired me to experiment with perfumes again.

Today I'm wearing the PP Jo Malone Grapefruit dupe (the oil is amazing), PP 'Amber and Lavender' perfume oil; and the proper Jo Malone Lime, Basil and Mandarin.

I can't stop sniffing myself Xmas Smile

MissBattleaxe · 07/12/2016 11:51

OCSockOrphanage- you need Beaufort Fathom V. It reminded me of boats and salt marshes and mermaids. Gorgeous!

PS relieved to hear you weren't serious about Secretions Magnifiques! Grin

Thank you, Vintage, for the tip prada iris. I tried a good squirt in my local dep.store. It's very nice and my kind of thing. Although the smell slightly waned before the day was done. Sotd Library of Fragrance Sea Salt. Really lovely daytime fare, memories of early summer seaside trips when you get chilly in the late afternoon. Also got Frankenscense which I've not properly road tested yet and Pipe Tobacco for the lolz from them. Pipe Tobacco smells like unlit baccy rather than the smokey stuff that dh and I love but is a vanishingly rare experience these days.

FrustratedFrugal · 07/12/2016 18:22

Twilightcafe I loved your post!

I'm boring, a dose of Coromandel today after 4 or 5 scent-free days (MIL is sensitive to perfume and I did not want to burden her). Now my appetite is whetted for a meaty tuberose or a headache inducing blast of incense...

MrsCocoa · 07/12/2016 20:30

Having sorted OC's swan problem, perhaps we could branch out into other troubleshooting?

Here's a scenario for you: restructuring at work; showdown with boss looming. For this you wear...?

twilightcafe · 07/12/2016 22:53

Thank you, FrustratedFrugal!

VintagePerfumista · 08/12/2016 07:39

Glad you like the Iris Tobee. I am toying with asking dp for a FB for Christmas or just ordering more of the Perfume Parlour dupe, which I love so much I worry the real thing may be a disappointment!

For any kind of work showdown/important businessy thingy, I go for either Chanel 19 or Miss Dior. Occasionally but rarely Dioressence.

After my two hours of wearing Eau de Yankee Candle I went to the opposite extreme and went back into work wearing Bandit. (love the fact that Scent and Subversion writer Barbara Harmann refers to Piguet as the "slut's perfumer" and totally get why. ) This is a new sample, so presumably toned down several thousand shades from the original- which I now have to get hold of, but my, it's good. A leather chypre. Could anything be better in my world?!

Went to bed in Anais Anais for comfort purposes.

Today, off to MILs for immaculate conception-ing. (not literally, obvs) so will wear a classy old Dior to annoy SIL.

VintagePerfumista · 08/12/2016 07:40

Oh, meant to say, the reviews of the Iris say it's very very very very light, and not at all long-lasting. Hence I'm considering more Perfume Parlour version as it costs £3 for a small bottle!

OCSockOrphanage · 08/12/2016 08:54

Maybe Lady Vengeance, MrsC? Or even Vengeance Extreme if you need to go in all guns blazing.

OCSockOrphanage · 08/12/2016 19:50

MrsCocoa, do hope the OK Corral wasn't a bloodbath, and that if it was, you whipped the bad guys. Seriously, it sounded like a nightmare, so lots of scented hot bathwater, Wine and Flowers this evening. Or Brew and Cake if that's your mood.

MrsCocoa · 08/12/2016 21:08

Sadly it's still to come OC, but thanks for your kind support and genius suggestion. I have a sample of Lady Vengeance so that will do nicely! It's either that or track down some Fracas?

VintagePerfumista · 09/12/2016 06:00

Fracas will do their head in! Is that the required effect? Grin It certainly does mine!

I opted for Dior Dior yesterday for MIL. It's a nice little thing, not at all outstanding like -essence/issimo/ella or anything. I'm glad I snagged a bit while there is still some around to snag, but can quite understand why it was discontinued. It doesn't quite say anything.

HooArghhhEwe · 09/12/2016 06:44

SOTD is woodsage and sea salt.

Statelychangers · 09/12/2016 07:01

Finally I have broken out of my perfume rut, I've been struggling to move from away from Coco, I love it but I've been wearing it too long and felt the need to update but nothing gave my that giddy feeling till I discovered Tom Ford's White Patchouli....and now I've found one scent, I feel the addiction looming around the corner, I need a nice bath oil next
