Continuing from the previous thread. It's always so lovely to see new posters come and talk perfume. Everyone is welcome. Come and tell us your SOTD ( scent of the day) or ask us anything perfumey. Someone will know the answer! Get stuck in and get sniffing. You'll find no snobbery here!

Oh magic that's rough. How miserable

I went on a binge smell in duty free yesterday on business trip.
Practically bathed in Tom ford samples and loved purple one, ?velvet orchid but the price!?! Wow £110 for 50ml. Decided it wasn't that nice!
Lovely guerlain sample set so may purchase that on way back. Chanel no19 too, which I think is what is making my scarf smell so nice but seemed to be a few different options and salesperson wasn't sure of the differences

GetAHaircutCarl · 01/12/2016 10:44

pinkie yes the purple Tom Ford is Velvet Orchid. Lovely IMVHO and a bit less intense that Black Orchid ( which can be good or bad depending).

Today I reached out for Portrait of a Lady. But I put her back. What is it I'm finding so difficult? Patchouli?

Instead I've gone for Jo Malone Velvet Rose and Oud. Sexy and cosy. Which is quite a trick.

MsRinky · 01/12/2016 11:16

MrRinky doesn't often comment on my perfume, other than to say that I always smell lovely. Apart from when I wear Bulgari Black, which apparently makes him think he's left a soldering iron on, or that the house is about to burn down because of an electrical fault.

However yesterday my bottle of Maxed Out that I treated myself to in the Pink Friday sale at 4160 Tuesdays arrived. As soon as he got in he was sniffing like a bloodhound and nuzzling my neck all evening, and has declared it the sexiest perfume ever.

The official notes are Rum cocktails, marijuana cigars, high class escorts, blackout and regret with added coffee. I really love it.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 01/12/2016 14:06

msRinky Maxed Out is fabulous, i was lucky enough to win a bottle of it in one of their facebook competitions and i i loved it at first sniff. the contest was to come up with a sentence that described it and mine was 'a bunfight in a brothel' which they obviously loved as i won!!

bunnybleu · 01/12/2016 16:26

I hope you don't mind me asking, but can anyone suggest a dupe for Penhaligans Orange Blossom please? I can't find it on their website but have fallen in love with it after using a sample.

VintagePerfumista · 01/12/2016 16:58

www.allbeauty.com/1032158-penhaligons-anthology-orange-blossom-eau-de-toilette-spray-100ml

You can get it from allbeauty. Smile Often codes lying around too.

I don't know it, but am guessing any of the neroli/orange scents would be similar. Dd has a Fragonard one, Fleurs d'oranger, which was about £12 in the M&S pre-Christmas sale last year.

Yves Rocher do a cheap as chips Neroli one Essences de Neroli I think, which I have and is very nice.

bunnybleu · 01/12/2016 17:15

Thank you very much! I knew one of you fab folks would be able to help!! Flowers

Hellefrog · 01/12/2016 17:18

Have been looking ar Serge Lutens Fille aux aiguilles and l'artisan parfumeur traverse du bosphore Anyone tried these?

VintagePerfumista · 01/12/2016 17:25

Go via Quidco for allbeauty, I'm sure it's something like 8% cashback.

I think I have ordered a sample of Fille aux Aiguille, but they haven't arrived yet.

Sotd Le labo Iris 39. Starts off very powdery and sweet and a bit icky tbh, but then....wow....it goes all crisp and has that old Chanel 19 kick to it, the kick that has gone from the latest versions. If it could bypass the first hour of sherbert, it would be a FB purchase straight off.

AnotherPinkiePieStory · 02/12/2016 08:53

Yes haircut exactly and I love velvet rose and oud too.

I love sound of maxed out. Will investigate.
I love mojito and tbs virgin mojito was amazing but just a splash. Not sure about escort (old xr3i maybe) but coffee and regret are my middle names!Wink

FrustratedFrugal · 02/12/2016 08:57

Smelling like Nutella today - I found some Montale Chocolate Greedy today and offered it to DD1. Chocolate and hazelnuts.

VintagePerfumista · 02/12/2016 12:02

I did an experiment. Real Miss Dior on one hand, and PP Meeees Deeeorrrrr on the other.

Very different initially, but now 4 hours later, I can smell the PP one more. It's still slightly different, but I think if I didn't have the other one on the other hand, I'd be hard pressed to tell the difference.

MissEarlGrey · 02/12/2016 20:06

Sorry if this isn't anything new, but I have recently received a very messed up samples order from Nose. Two samples I had ordered were missing, two I hadn't ordered were in, one was duplicated, and a sample had a washed out, unreadable label.
They were slow to reply to my email complaining about it but a phone call to the contact number apparently did the trick, and I might soon received my actual order!
Still, I got the chance to try L'ombre dans l'eau from Dyptique (fountain smell) and it's very pleasant, although I wouldn't buy it.

VintagePerfumista · 03/12/2016 06:50

I won't be ordering from Nose again- aside from the fact that I think their diagnostic is a clever con to send out the 5 fragrances they are promoting/want to get rid of/have a stockpile of. A friend and I put completely different perfumes into it as our favourites and received 4 out of 5 completely identical samples.

My last samples were sticky, had clearly leaked, and yes, half the labels missing/peeled off/washed off by the leaking perfume.

AusLeibeZumDuft is excellent at samples though. Sturdy bottles, good spray technique rather than that pffft pfffft from Nose, fantastic customer service-( I was wondering where my order was, scrabbled through my emails to find one saying that Feminite du Bois was out of stock, and what could they send me in its place. I replied saying "oooh just chuck anything in at the same price, I'm a slapper when it comes to scent Grin" and the order was despatched the same afternoon.)

AnotherPinkiePieStory · 03/12/2016 08:13

Thanks vintage I'll remember that.
Had a lovely hour in Brussels duty free. So many exciting smells!
I liked coco noir which I've never seen before and fell heavily for van cleef selection. A lovely amber: £££ though so may check for dupes. And all the Hermes range.
Also a selection of guerlain samples (all with bees on; can't remember range name but apparently travel exclusive) looked summery and smelt delicious.
One man was buying his partner every Tom ford in range. Lucky lady: hope it was one of you guys!

GetAHaircutCarl · 03/12/2016 08:26

pinkie I think that's the Acqua Allegoria range from Guerlain.

I've had a couple; rose, grapefruit and lemon. They are very light and summery. I used up a bottle during one holiday IIRC. All I would say is that, on me, they don't last.

VintagePerfumista · 03/12/2016 08:42

I think Frugal said that the AA range, whilst very lovely, are more like a perfumed water/spritz kind of fragrance than even an EdT.

A woman I worked with wore one though (one of the orangey ones) and it was divine.

GetAHaircutCarl · 03/12/2016 08:50

That's how I treat it vintage which is why I got through a bottle in a couple of weeks Grin.

Calminaqualm · 03/12/2016 12:21

Has anyone tried Bronnley's Eclectic Elements range? They are promoting them in Boots, EDT and Eau Fraiche, 3 for the price of 2, £15 for a bottle (EF). They're all very pungent. I tried Zealous Flower and found it too much, but I think I love Wild Green. I keep going back for testers so I think I will end up treating myself! There are six different ones.

VintagePerfumista · 03/12/2016 13:56

Sotd, JHAG Mad Madame, as soon as she smelled me dd says "oh that's lovely, you smell like Christmas" whereas I was thinking "jeez, I smell like a hooker whose pants need washing"

It's definitely not subtle.

3 hours on and it's settling into something slightly less skanky but a little sweaty. Shock

All that said, it's not unpleasant!

VintagePerfumista · 03/12/2016 13:59

It's like a sluttier version of the Rose Alcane I tried earlier in the week. Which in turn was a more adult version of MMM Untitled.

(I clearly have varieties of all the same thing in my sample box!)

Hushabyelullaby · 03/12/2016 14:00

I LOVE a perfume that I've worn for a couple of years now, and I always gets compliments about it. However, it has THE worst name in the history of named things, it's called Viva La Juicy

Badders123 · 03/12/2016 15:27

Went to the Estée Lauder counter on weds
God I love cinnabar Grin
Don't think I can justify the expense though Confused
Not after my large bottle of knowing Smile

OCSockOrphanage · 03/12/2016 15:29

Vintage, you.'ve piqued my interest with 'a sluttier version of MMM Untitled'! I may have to search that one out. Mad Madame isn't a favourite from the JHaG range, but I try it every now and again for a change. And I'm thirding the criticisms of Nose. The "diagnostic" is a scam but most seem to be.

SoTD is Bvlgari Black; pity it's discontinued. Apparently much lauded by Luca Turin. Wish he would write more.

tobee · 03/12/2016 16:40

You lot are baaaaad for me. Spent time in department stores yesterday smelling cards and myself thinking I was getting somewhere when I now realise there are soooo many more to try. On strength of upthread ordered pp vanilla tobacco whilst recovering in a coffee shop. I'm trying to find evening replacement for Chanel Coco (dh says I smell vinegary) and Tom Ford Violet Blonde which is being discontinued. Sales assistant kept offering me very light floral or fruity stuff. No, no, no. I ended up most liking my squirt of Cinnabar when left to my own devices. Serge Lutens sounds promising to me. Anything anyone can recommend given my tastes, please? Btw I wear Eau Dyanamiste or 4711 during the daytime. I wore a lot of L'egoiste back in the day, remember that? Sorry for long post.
