Continuing from the previous thread. It's always so lovely to see new posters come and talk perfume. Everyone is welcome. Come and tell us your SOTD ( scent of the day) or ask us anything perfumey. Someone will know the answer! Get stuck in and get sniffing. You'll find no snobbery here!

SoTD another Nose sample, this time one of their random ones they decided they wanted to flog send me based on my preferences.....Rose Alcane by Aether.

It's an inoffensive powdery rose. Started off a bit sour, and reminded me of MMM Untitled. Now it's settled, 3 hours in and is nice enough for me not to scrub it off, and I'll even have another squirt before going back into class.

It's not going on any top ten list though. If I want rose, I want in your face Paris, not this innocent little hybrid!

GetAHaircutCarl · 29/11/2016 09:30

New recruit here.

I've found my people. But I fear my epic scent habit is about to escalate. Enablers the lot of you!!!

Today I'm wearing No 19. But actually it's a bit cold for it. I should have gone for something warmer.

VintagePerfumista · 29/11/2016 09:35

Welcome, welcome.

You smell lovely! And so do we! (today, I wore a minger yesterday, see above ^)

Chanel 19 is so splendid I think it can be worn anytime, anyplace anywhere.

I first started wearing it because of the memories it evoked, of fabulous university times when it was worn, not by me, but by my friend. It's one of the full bottles I can never be without.

GetAHaircutCarl · 29/11/2016 09:39

I've got a few things on the go at the moment.

But one I'm struggling with is Portrait of a Lady. Oh how I wanna love her. But there's just something not right about her on me.

GetAHaircutCarl · 29/11/2016 09:45

But am loving something a friend gave me. She decanted a bit for me and she's labelled it Vetiver et Oud. I think it then says Illuminum, but her writing has been smudged.

VintagePerfumista · 29/11/2016 10:13

I am waiting for a sample of Portrait of a Lady.

Btw, does anyone else's skins samples take aaaaaaages? Ditto the sample website that OC linked us to? I ordered from both over 2 weeks ago, and haven't heard anything. I know I'm in furrin, but most places can get my addiction to me within a week!

teta · 29/11/2016 10:25

GetaharcutCarl this thread is fatal. My perfume collection and addiction ( slight) has now climbed to 60+ bottles + many decants .And a pronounced addiction to Fragantica.
Won a lovely giveaway this week - 30 mls of Bond No 9 Central Park.A bitter green citrussy opening which reminds me of Bitter Orange and a Rosy floral heart that has similarities to Ninfea by Profumum Roma.
Did anyone manage to try Jo Malone Orange Bitters before it sold out?

HooArghhhEwe · 29/11/2016 10:26

I need a portrait of a lady sample I think.

I keep forgetting to put scent on Blush. It's all right above my knicker drawer so no excuse really.

cardoon · 29/11/2016 10:44

Can anyone tell me what the differences between Chanel no 22 vintage and no 22 Les exclusifs are? Got an ebay sample of vintage (mistaken identity!) and not sure about it but I thought I loved the LE's in store

AnotherPinkiePieStory · 29/11/2016 10:58

vintage Must remember to get the wee bowls of pot pouri out too.
Hi carl I love this thread and am going to airport an hour early tomorrow to sniff around. Especially after Chanel no. 19 and 21
Was in Zara yesterday and they had a huge fragrance section. Tried 2 lovely ones which seemed to last well. Anyone else tried?

OCSockOrphanage · 29/11/2016 13:36

Sorry about the delayed post from my sample people; their admin is not perfect so I now find, but they have not missed anything out from orders.

Welcome, Carl... but Teta is right; this thread needs a wealth warning.

VintagePerfumista · 29/11/2016 13:48

Ha ha, I LOVE Pot Pourri, even though it's a huge MN no no apparently!

I tried some Zara fragrances in the summer- I recall them being very nice, yes.

Still in the Rose Alcane, it's now settling into a mild Hippie Rose but without the 100% hairy biker bit.

VintagePerfumista · 29/11/2016 16:05

ohhhhh, my skins samples have arrived!

Have just had a very quick sniff of each in its little bottle and the two which immediately made me go "fwoaaaar this is lovely!" were Le Labo Iris Poudre and Hermes Apres le Mousson.

I am clearly useless at picking things based on notes, because the ones I thought I would like are the ones which made me go "pooooey that's going to be a challenge!"

I'm very much looking forward to meeting it though!

OCSockOrphanage · 29/11/2016 20:50

SotD is l'Artisan Pafumeur's Batucada. I have a 5ml pretend bottle, from a TK Maxx impulse buy (£12 for 6) . It's lemony. Vairy pretty mini bottles though none of the juices thrill.

slinkysaluki · 29/11/2016 21:34

Not very sophisticated but my SOTD was Euphoria by CK. I like the patchouli note.

HooArghhhEwe · 30/11/2016 05:53

SOTD is baccarat rouge 540. I've been getting whiffs of it all day.

VintagePerfumista · 30/11/2016 06:05

I moved onto Hippie Rose yesterday evening, and yes, to my nose there is very little to tell between that and the Alcane Rose sample. HR doesn't smell as heavy bikery as it did when I first smelled it and is slightly stronger in the "bits that aren't rose" notes, but v v similar.

The house write up for Alcane Rose is absurd. ""Did it ever exist? Has it only ever been harvested by friendly hands this sidereal rose? One could imagine it so textured, so vivid, so real (ROSE OXYDE). Beautiful flower in a cowhide. A rose for girl and boys who do not love roses madly, but who do not hate to be surprised. Through beautiful floral mechanics, the miracle of alchemy transforms, right under your nose, a super fresh rosebud into a metallic flower."

Confused
OCSockOrphanage · 30/11/2016 10:16

Vintage, that is complete gibberish! Send it to Pseud's Corner?

Batucada was forgettable; not bad, not good.

My leather watchstrap smells gorgeous this morning but it's a blend of all the things I wear regularly, I think.

VintagePerfumista · 30/11/2016 10:33

I love that smell- it's like when I open my box of samples. Just a delightful waft of loveliness comes out.

I have remembered now what it is about Hippie Rose that is off. The morning after my coat collar definitely smells like I slept with a hairy biker. I know it's the patchouli, but it ruins quite a quirky rose.

Will have a shower and try something from skins later.

VintagePerfumista · 30/11/2016 15:03

Am now in Canyon Dreams (Keiko Mecheri bespoke)

Only just sprayed and is powdery, rosey, subtle at the moment. The powdery bit reminds me of Chantilly!

It's a bit old lady at the moment, in a nice enough way.

slinkysaluki · 30/11/2016 15:22

Lol at hairy biker with patchouli ! Reminds me when used to buy the patchouli oil from BodyShop and wipe it all over my jeans etc, I used to hang out with bikers

slinkysaluki · 30/11/2016 15:24

SOTD Gautier classique, again not very niche but I like it

honkawonka · 30/11/2016 15:28

I'm looking for the scent of this candle which I'm almost certain is a perfume (possibly jo malone)

Lovely, friendly perfume thread continued- Come and discuss all your fragrant foibles!
GetAHaircutCarl · 30/11/2016 16:13

Today I wore Oud et Vetiver.
But my scarf smelled of yesterday's No 19 and my coat collar of Black Opium.

Net effect = Debenhams perfume hall.

Innermagic · 30/11/2016 20:32

My skins order came today, I orders five Juliette has a gun samples but some fucker has cut the tape on my package and stole my perfume Angry
all I received is an empty box I'm absolutely gutted. I'm sure I can smell a little whiff of moon dance on the foam.
