when I say waffle I mean expand on the points in an erudite and meaningful way (of course...)

MrsSchadenfreude · 12/10/2016 14:12

Crem, do please be careful. Although murdering your mother would be counted as a "crime passionelle" in France, so you would probably be let off. Oh, and mind your back.

Rose - my most frum friend never fasts over Yom Kippur. She is always struck down with a mystery illness the day before, and is never well enough to fast.

Packing and pootling today before fight home tonight. And I'm not going to correct that typo...

Oh Crem, I admire the fact that you haven't lost your rag, I would be hard pressed to keep schtum. My DM's home from the NH, lounge rearranged to accommodate bed and necessary accoutrements and DDad is ok but muttering about the carers 'Never turn up at the right time ' (he's impervious to explanations that everyone can't be got up on the dot of 7.30 am).
Mum looks so fragile, fell asleep in the middle of a sentence, but bloodyDs2 insistent that she's fine and needs to 'get moving' so more splintered teeth inevitable.

💐🍷☕️🍦🍪🍫 whatever it takes to keep calm & carry on Crepies x

Rosebag · 12/10/2016 14:25

LOL MrsS I decided I'd done my penance ( after 30 years of annual fasting) plus the chemo experience (I mean, is there a worse punishment?), and haven't fasted since. DH is a very good faster and so actually are DS2 and DD but I talked them out of it this year, as they're going in to college. DS1 always went green and got a sick headache so I turned a blind eye to what he did. DM always fasted in spite of migraines, sickness and dizziness. Nuts.

Rosebag · 12/10/2016 14:26

oh gosh, Poppy Flowers

motherinferior · 12/10/2016 14:42

I shall check out R4! Thank you.

Do NOT look at the new Woolovers site. It has many warm and rather stylish new items.

In aged parent news I am off to see my father on Sat. Though he says helpfully one of us - my sister or me - can sleep downstairs "in the room with the sofabed". That would be the room our mother died in, and more to the point spent several weeks dying in, and which I really am not sure I want to spend much time in again.

Blackduck · 12/10/2016 14:49

MI too late.....

I too am off to see Ddad this weekend (well actually after the interview tomorrow), I am seeing old college friends on Friday and out to dinner at Le Gavrouche on Friday evening....

Leaving the boys to deal with each other...

motherinferior · 12/10/2016 14:57

Lalsy, I think that was DD1's class! Grin

DD2 is perkier though still off poorly ie lounging in front of the telly.

Collymollypuff · 12/10/2016 15:00

Crem - baby donkeys?

Crepeys, I can report that there is nothing more conducive to frantic house cleaning than having a Professor on your case about academic work. I have completely cleaned out the fridge and have several other major cleaning projects in progress.

MI, is there another room you can sleep in? Shock

Lalsy · 12/10/2016 15:13

Baby donkeys...and a new Woolovers site [fans self vigorously]? Good thing I have a deadline.

I am going to LA, MI. It was the most cheering bit of radio I have heard for a long time (up there with Keir Starmer talking some bloody sense).

MI, that won't do.

BD, good luck.

magimedi · 12/10/2016 15:23

Crem - take care of your back & don't let your D (?)M bully you.

Have had a day of housework & shopping here - boring but so nice to feel OK enough to do it.

For all you gin lovers, Lidl now do a posh gin that is as good as many far more expensive bottles I have tried. I took one down to France with me & we all enjoyed it. I have treated myself to one when shopping as an aid to recovery Grin

PoshGin

hattymattie · 12/10/2016 15:49

Rudy - so glad to hear DS is holding his own. He went straight from hospital to school didn't he? He probably needs a good rest now going into half term.

The ringing in my ear seemd to have gone - thank goodness - it's clicking when I swallow so I think it may have been cold related. Rose - I'd hate to have that in the long term - I think it would drive me mad.

Crem: ignore your DM - LOOK AFTER YOUR BACK - it's too important to put it out for something daft.

motherinferior · 12/10/2016 15:57

Oh great, thanks, MM, I shall add that on my list of Things I Want in addition to this. I did note it in the local Lidl, while stocking up on Frugal Cheap Prosecco.

I am such a middle-class cliché, I really am.

Lalsy · 12/10/2016 16:07

MM, thank you so much for testing that one for us Grin. Glad you perking up.

magimedi · 12/10/2016 16:22

Uttterly selfless, that's moi Grin.

Always willing to test gin!

If anyone is in Brighton, there is an amazing pub at the top (station) end of the North Laines called The Office, that does about 50+ different gins! Could be a good spot for a meet?

Auriga · 12/10/2016 16:40

Yes, Crem, mind your back. Mine is wrecked. MRI result grim, as I expected.

DSis2 and her dog have departed, so DCat has been liberated from purdah in our bedroom & DDog has nipped in and eaten the rest of the cat food that was in there Shock

Singing w/e was wonderful & we have two excellent concerts coming up, helping to keep me focused on the positive. But DH's concert has been cancelled, as their much-loved, talented (and young) conductor has died of cancer Sad

bigTillyMint · 12/10/2016 16:47

MM, the gin looks good! I am still loving the rhubarb gin I made myselfWink

MI, nice woolly. I have unsubscribed to their mailing list as I DO NOT NEED any more woollies (other than the ones I knit, of course!)

BD sounds like you've got a good weekend planned - you deserve it!

MI, do not be forced to sleep in that room. Could the sofabed be moved or is there another bed upstairs?

Lalsy · 12/10/2016 16:57

Hell yes, MM.

Auriga, that's wonderful about the weekend, lovely pix too, but Sad. And sorry to hear about the MRI.

herbaceous · 12/10/2016 17:21

Well what an utter TREAT of a day. Had no breakfast, as am attempting the 16:8 intermittent fasting thingo.

While teaching my lesson, big boss and a Stern Woman came in, sat there for 20 minutes, and took notes. Don't know if it was an observation, or what. One of the pieces of paper said 'learning walk' on it. Whatever the hell one of those is.

Packed up stuff, failed to do any post-lesson admin as had to race back home to pick DS up for a hospital appointment. Bought burrito en route to eat in car, as starving. Don't recommend this course of action, particularly when in complex part of north London involving a lot of gear changes. Dropped car at home, legged it to school, got to station just in time, only for train to be cancelled.

Got to hospital late, only to be told that their system had cocked up and it was in fact supposed to be October NEXT YEAR. Still, they did give DS a toy lion for his trouble, which he has named Dan Desmond.

I am planning nothing except lounging on the settee and watching GBBO and National Treasure.

In job news, she's interviewing two more people NEXT MONDAY and then going away for TEN DAYS. I hope to God she makes a decision before she goes away, or I may die of frustration.

MrsSchadenfreude · 12/10/2016 18:22

MI - finally got your serum in the last pharmacy I went in!

Am now at stage where I just want to go home, and there's another 3 hours before the car arrives to take us to the airport.

Rose - my mother used to make us eat matzos over Easter. I hate matzos, and it was only about five years ago, when I was reaching for a packet in the supermarket that I realised that I actually didn't have to eat them, that I was an adult and could make my own decisions.

motherinferior · 12/10/2016 18:44

Mwah, MrsS.

Herbs, that is a not fun day.

Oh dear, suspect DSis is not at her best. And the thing is, my way of dealing with being chez dad is the technique honed when mum was dying - send out shameless SOS to anyone who might be able to meet for a drink. Go out on a Saturday night and other normal stuff and generally plug into a world that is not bonkers. DSis is rather different.

Lalsy · 12/10/2016 18:50

Blimey Herbs, GBBO had better be good.

hattymattie · 12/10/2016 19:18

Herbs - that sounds indeed a shit day. GBBO is Tudor week so should be fun.

My tablet has uploaded Windows 10 all by itself, my mail box has gone weird and nothing is working - I am so annoyed - DH needs to sort it all this weekend (I'm too thick to do this) - I just want my normal mailbox and everything seems more complicated now - grrr Angry.

Stropperella · 12/10/2016 19:44

Crem, take care!

Auriga, I'm impressed that you already have your MRI results. I won't get mine until 3 weeks on Friday. Which is a bit frustrating. Sorry to hear your results were grim. Will things get better with time? Or is unpleasant treatment an inevitability?

Still here, but tired and emotional. Going away for a weekend with friends this weekend. Apart from when I come to crepey MUs, I haven't been away for a weekend with friends without either dh and/or dcs for over 20 years. Shock

JustmeandtheChickens · 12/10/2016 21:30

My memorial bracelet for DDog arrived today - it's lovely :-)

I realise this may seem a bit trivial with those of you going through major difficulties with parents and children (I do understand, I have some of my own!) - but for us, and me especially, our DDog has left such a hole in our lives. We don't have children so I think we were massively invested in our darling dog.

We would have loved to have kids, but it just didn't happen - I'm pretty sure I had a very early miscarriage a few years ago.

I am a strong believer that you make the best of what life gives you - it just doesn't stop you sometimes feeling very sad.

In S&B news, I am looking for the perfect pair of 7/8 black trousers to go with my recent perfect Pony Skin loafers - any suggestions?
