ugh, exhausted now after a week of cleaning and sorting and throwing things out. we broke down some furniture last night for the tip as well so that was pretty tiring

kittyhello · 17/09/2016 20:44

Dream my Pistols are still packed away but in the name of research, if I remember, I'll dig them out tomorrow and wear them.

Yeaay Justa

One would be lovely to meet you if you can make it.

libertydoddle · 17/09/2016 20:59

Sounds like it will be a fab meet up!! But will miss QueenC Sad

Took DD shoe shopping today, winter school shoes, weekend boots, gumboots, plimsolls for PE and jazz shoes Shock. I'm certain at her age I had one pair of shoes and a pair of wellies.

Morning all!!

Selection of dresses for Mara

I may have ignored budget, full length rules etc Grin In my defence I think you'd look amazing in them all ... which is what really matter Wink

What a beautiful selection of dresses. The Zandra Rhodes

SoyYo · 18/09/2016 10:29

Morning! Having a quiet morning with Sunday papers, just caught up with thread.
So London yesterday:
Love my new curly hairdresser, she really knows her stuff, had a lot cut off but now looks so much better and bouncy! Picked up good product and styling tips.
Met up with old school friend and 4 hours of non stop catch up! We realised next March it will be 40 years since we became friends at boarding school, so planning to do something together to celebrate then.
Then onto Oxford St and Uniglo. Everywhere was too busy for me, tried lots of things at Uniglo, ended up swapping returned Ines shirt for a rather basic black shirt and that was it. Hate shopping with crowds so Sat afternoon possibly worst time for me...i thought the Ines tweed jackets were too rough, glad i ordered and kept the flannel one though. I already have 3 Boden Harris tweed jackets and quality far superior to the Ines Uniglo alternative.
Glanced at Zara, Russell and Bromley but fed up with crowds so called it a day.
I realise internet shopping has spoilt me, unless the shop is spacious, neat, with good changing rooms, lighting, etc I cannot be bothered.

Happy nice purchases! Like the French Connection dress specially.

Thanks for all the encouragement! Next week in Rome with work so will not post often, but will pop in again before too long Flowers

SoyYo · 18/09/2016 10:31

Meant to add Ciao Bellas! Have a great week!Smile

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 18/09/2016 10:54

i bought two things yesterday, one was a pair of distressed black skinnies and the other a white star print long sleeve cropped shirt. i'm buying very little now, only what i really love and keep going back to look at. i also bought a nightshirt but that doesn't count towards my usual wardrobe Grin

feels weird to have thrown out and donated so much stuff. feel like there's some breathing room at least now.just shoes to sort through for me but i know who can take the ones i dont want or cant wear so they arent difficult to be rid of

going to try and work things out so i can make the MU but no promises right now as it depends on a few different things but i WILL be in london at some point in november whether it's MU weekend or otherwise so could do mini ones with anyone who might be available Smile

hope everyone's having a nice weekend

FedupNagging · 18/09/2016 11:11

Be lovely to see you in Nov One if you can make it.

Lib gorgeous dresses and yes, can definitely see Mara in all of them. I think my favourite is the Karmic bird print.

Glad you are pleased with your hair cut SoYo and totally agree with you on shopping when it's busy although when is it ever not busy in London? (hopefully quiet tomorrow afternoon)

Ootd is navy boden ankle skimmers, cos batwing top in teal and am thinking of wearing Jalouse boots for the first time in months when I go out in a while. Oh and I have huge bags under my eyes rolled in at 3am and no concealer Shock so will try not to frighten small children and animals!

Dreamqueen · 18/09/2016 11:42

Inspired by One I've filled 5 black bags for the charity shop this morning. It's all about letting go of stuff that I don't wear or don't feel good in.

Also managed to buy this silver new balance Trainers are my staple footwear since the foot accident. I love these.

Back to clearing out.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 18/09/2016 12:27

that's soem good going dream i know it can be a real struggle tolet go of things but you will feel better for it and the space for things you do love it will create is also a bonus Wink

kittyhello · 18/09/2016 14:18

Dream I wore my Pistols today and the zip didn't undo at all. I even pushed my jeans up a bit higher to give the zip an opportunity to undo but it remained in the same zipped to the top position. Hth.

Soyo glad you're pleased with your new hair cut

Lovely dresses, I can imagine Mara in the Lanvin.

Dreamqueen · 18/09/2016 14:28

Thanks for encouragement One I've got shoes to do also. I haven't worn heels for over a year. Don't know whether to let them go or just put them away just in case I do in the future.

Hmm, Kitty maybe I've got dodgy zips. I will wear them over this week & see what happens. It's a long trek to Dover St to return them & it's guaranteed that it won't happen in the shop!

That's a great selection of dresses Lib I like the Lanvin also.

Drywhitethanks · 18/09/2016 16:31

Ticket booked...I'm coming!

Just back from flying visit to London for a family do. Managed to squeeze in 2hrs with DD on Regent st I've trained her well in the art of turbo shopping and the divide and conquer techniqueGrin Top Shop at 10am isn't so bad really. Got a few bits, will link later.

But the best bit was after the lunch a grou went for a walk in the park whilst I jumped in a cab with two of my nieces 12 and 14 and took them to selfridges still in my dress and heelsGrin felt it was my duty as aunt to teach them to stroke Pradabags and drool over Jimmy Choo shoes Grin many, many cool points

Dreamqueen · 18/09/2016 18:50

Quick question
I've never bought anything from Boden but I've got a 20% off voucher & a £10 off one. Is there anything I should buy or Stay strong and buy nothing?
Looking forward to seeing your turbo shopping purchases Dry

Everyonelovessparkles · 18/09/2016 20:24

Just a quick one, I had an email
Saying 25% off whistles. Only I thought a few people had seen some stuff that they had there eye on.... could be wrong though Grin

Having a nice time in Cornwall, weather better than we expected, almost makes up for the 8hour journey getting here Smile

maradesbois · 18/09/2016 20:47

Evening,

lib Flowers for the black tie board, have just spent a happy 30 mins perusing it. If money were no object the Zandra Rhodes would get my vote closely followed by Attico velvet, didn't know that brand but its gorgeous. Although that one I think does look like a dressing gown, not sure my fellow ball-goers would understand. Think am going to wait a few weeks for more choice, velvet seems really big this season, have had a complete reversal of opinion from detesting to finding its current incarnations lovely and opulent. Still adore the original one I linked but actually think better for less formal occasions, you are right that I need to wow with this one!

Tks for compliment Amber Blush.

Dream pistol zips definitely don't sound right, I wore mine to death for about 3 years and don't recall ever having a problem.

Dry whoop whoop you're coming!!

Shop how are things? Hope you are bearing up, sending much love. We were out past your way this weekend for a posh hotel stay, gorgeous-looking place but shockingly bad service, would've been fawlty towers funny if not so expensive.

One well done on continued success with the clearing. Would be fab if you can make MU but if not I'd love to meet you for a mini one.

Had a nicely decadent afternoon on sofa with DH watching Columbo and now already in bed about to watch second part of Vogue documentary. Love Alex, the interviewer is a pita trying to pit the others against here and make a story. Loved Lucinda and Mario T's friendship in the first part too.

shopafrolic · 18/09/2016 20:54

Everyone was it a Whistles code? Can you share? I have my eye on something so would be fab if you can :)
Mara wondering where you were now? Text me?

QueenCobalt · 18/09/2016 20:55

shop wanted money off whistles.
I've just ordered my winter boots as I felt a bit chilly today. I tried them on last week but needed to order a smaller size.

I'm glad you talked sense into me about wearing 'best'. I wore the Velvet top again yesterday and as it was £75 im glad to be getting my wear out of it rather than saving it for something that will never happen.

dream I don't buy a lot from boden but I'd be tempted just to use the voucher anyway on something like socks or a basic vest if you can pretty much get them free.

shopafrolic · 18/09/2016 22:02

Dream I usually get a top or pyjamas for DS. Any early Christmas shopping you could do with it?

Everyonelovessparkles · 19/09/2016 08:34

shop there doesn't seem to be a code just a link through to the website where the discount shows. Maybe the discount is just showing on the website any way?? If not, I could try and forward you the email somehow......

dream I like the Bretons from Boden but depends if that is your style. Well done on the clear out! 5 bin bags is impressive.

dry sounds like you had a nice tine and excellent aunt duties!

soyyo glad you are pleased with your hair and that you had a nice time with your friend. I always think it's the sign of a true friendship when you can just pick up where you left off with no awkwardness.

maradesbois · 19/09/2016 10:05

Morning!

SoyYo fab to see you back on the thread. Agree with everyone about true friendships being ones where you just pick up where you left off no matter how long ago it was.

Stuck in the house this morning with workmen plus woke up with a horrible sore throat. Feels like autumn is really in the air now. All I need clothes-wise is a jacket/coat to take me through to woolrich parka weather which is hopefully far away. Love the look of this APC parka but would need to try on. My dsis got a lovely coat at M&S too, this one in grey. Its really well cut and hangs nicely. Will go in for a look next time am passing one.

QueenC did you link your winter boots? Didn't you get gorgeous grey suede ones last year? Maybe am thinking of someone else.

libertydoddle · 19/09/2016 10:17

Glad you liked the dresses mara. The Zandra Rhodes is amazing. The Attico one is crying out to be accessorised with a diamond encrusted cigarette holder!!! Has a definite 'i've just slipped into something more comfortable' vibe.

Today I'm wearing the marine blue Uniqlo flared shift dress, with a navy Uniqlo v neck merino cardigan, oversized Hobbs basketweave orange scarf and leopard print loafers. Big sunnies, hair tied back as it's a frizzy mess

SoyYo · 19/09/2016 11:19

I agree everyone and mara about old friendships, this particular friend lives in Surrey so we have been part of each others' lives forever, but tomorrow I am also meeting up with another old boarding school friend (yes we are scattered all round the world now) for dinner in Rome. This one really I haven't seen since we were at school (she was a year behind me) although we do keep in touch via email/FB. The thing with boarding school is that we were all so far from home (and so little!),and you share so much fellow boarders become family. It's really lovely how we've all stayed in touch over the years.

dream I always find lots of things at Boden I like but also return loads it is a matter of trial and error. I would say their tweed jackets and cashmere are usually pretty good but better to wait and buy in the sale. Like the others said you cannot go wrong with something for DC. Or just to spend the £10 voucher and use the free delivery/returns look in clearance? I bought in clearance a linen shirt, some denim ankle zip jeans (around £20ish), a cowl neck black top (only £14, good basic) and a denim dress. I won't link but if any of those seem interesting I can do.

mara ST Style had a whole feature on velvet this winter being bang on trend. I quote from article (have access to timesonline):
Joyously, there are swathes of the strokable stuff around for the new season. On the catwalk, Sacai, Stella McCartney, Vivienne Westwood and Anna Sui all showed velvet. And you won’t have to snuffle through H&M looking for that stray bit of velvet on the high street. My personal favourite piece of expensive velvet, a strappy saffron-yellow Valentino dress, as worn by Blake Lively, has been copied by both Marks & Spencer and Urban Outfitters, and on the shoot, I struggled to tell the difference. There are multicoloured velvet boots at LK Bennett, a ruffle-tiered green dress from Asos and navy floral-splashed separates at Rebecca Taylor.

BerniceBobsHerHair · 19/09/2016 13:25

Aargh - just lost a long post.

To summarise:

Was intrigued by the dresses mentioned in your post SoyYo - here is the Valentino one, lovely.

Dream what about the Boden ruched skirt - black would go with your new NB trainers.

I love the jacket Lou Dillion is wearing in this pic (and everything about the pic really) - has anyone seen anything similar?

Dry kudos to you as a cool aunt.

Hoping Grazia code for Whistles is tomorrow and maybe that's why they've got it on their website - though I can't find it there, is it just if you're signed up with them I wonder?
