Looking effortlessly groomed...

Hi everyone,

I've been a little glum this week as just find no matter how hard I try I always seem to look a bit unkept.

I have very fine hair which is always wispy no matter if I tie it up or have it down. Shorter styles are even worse to keep. I always seem to have bags under my eyes and just look a little unkept.

I was discussing this with a friend today who said that its one of those things you either have or you don't. Or... You spend a fortune to get.

Does anyone have any tips on looking groomed on a budget?

knowler - they look like the trousers I have been seeking forever!
bamboo - how did you find the code?

Bambooshoots14 · 23/07/2016 09:08

www.vouchercodes.co.uk/baukjen.com

There's a 20% off code too but I couldn't get that one to work

MrsGuyOfGisbo · 23/07/2016 09:44

oooh, thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm what you'd class as groomed. Its not effortless, mind. It's a lot of work, but none the less worth it.
Nails painted
Subtle make up. Nothing too OTT
Bag to compliment
Matching earrings
Polished shoes
Hair styled.

You can't buy effective tooth whitening stuff over the counter in the UK, it is banned because it wrecks teeth. Claims on boxes are all lies.

If you want the horse with a mouthful of piano keys look of the american celeb, go ahead and buy online. Don't complain if you wreck teeth or gums, that's the risk.

Or go see someone who spent years at dental school.

Place marking as I like these kinds of threads.

and I want to know what the deletion said

knowler my trousers have arrived. Not sure I love them. I'm short so they are floor length on me rather than cropped on the model. They are comfy and fit my belly in but I'm not sure they look better than cheap joggers would. What do you wear with yours?

Excellent thread! I am now starting to make a bit more of an effort, however I am not allowed to wear ANY makeup at work, none at all!! So I try to keep my skin in as good condition as possible but at 39, being able to wear some would be good. I do wear it when not working, not too much but it definitely helps!

I am trying to wear smarter clothes, but again it is smart jeans and a shirt/thin jumper due to my type of work.

Smile and being confident helps, and definitely posture!

It's a zombie thread but a good one!

Newbrummie · 11/12/2016 13:48

It's an oldie but a goodie and the conclusion is always the same. Nice to remind ourselves though I guess

Love this thread

Thanks for bumping the thread. It's good to read through and absorb (as is last year's "how to look expensive" thread) before the January sales. I can't count the amount of times I've bought hideous unflattering stuff in the sales just because it was cheap, the kind of stuff that builds up static electricity as you walk! Xmas Shock

This year I'm hoping to buy one or two quality "pieces" instead. I doubt it's going to transform me overnight but you need to start somewhere!

Karcheer · 12/12/2016 08:18

I think next year I'm going to allocate myself a monthly budget to spend on things, I've this horrible habit of not buying for ages, then panic buying lots (and therefore cheap) in an emergency. I pretty much need a whole wardrobe so it's going to take a while...

LadyLothian · 12/12/2016 14:08

Karcheer I need a whole new wardrobe too. The monthly budget is a really good idea.
