New thread!

Title can refer either to our upcoming holidays, or our upcoming fleeing from the Bojo-led charabanc of doom.

In Unappreciated Supper news my pomegranate seed/black olive/feta salad was less than applauded. Faintly relieved no major political event broke while away from news outlets...

herbaceous · 26/06/2016 20:02

Ooh, ELO. Bloody love 'em. I shall turn on the television set.

Spent the afternoon in our neighbours' back garden, being cooked a barbecue and served vintage champagne. Neighbour from 'the other side' also dropped in, and inevitably Brexit was raised. Our assumption is that article 50 will never get invoked, as Boris never in fact wanted the Leave campaign to win. Crawling back to the EU, and risking uprising of disenfranchised proles, is probably the least worst outcome as far as government is concerned.

As for Labour, much as I like Jezza, he has been something of a wet lettuce, and if there is going to be a general election, we need someone who can sort this shitstorm out in favour of the common person and get elected. Perhaps a LibLab pact is in the offing?

Should phone my parents tonight. Really have to steel myself to do it, especially if I've exhausted my reserves by going up and 'sorting'.

MI, it sounds lovely to me!

Gregory Porter now - soooooo mellow.

CointreauVersial · 26/06/2016 20:49

Was enjoying Glasto, but DH has decided to watch Top Gear. Angry

I took DD1 shopping this afternoon, and she has chosen the most atrocious shoes for her Y10 Social this Friday (it's a sort of starter-prom). They are stripper shoes pink suede platforms, mega-high, with laces around the ankles - quite horrible. I really really wanted her to choose a nice, flat, sensible pair of sandals, but after a brief wrestle with my conscience I let her have what she wanted. I suppose we all went through that stage, when we wore clothes that made our parents tut, and I've always felt that there were bigger things to get worked up about than a pair of unsuitable shoes on a generally hard-working and sensible 15yo. Still feels odd, though.

Indeed, Herbs - I think it is a poisoned chalice Boris has been handed; will he really want to lead the country through the mire while DC sails off into the sunset?

bigTillyMint · 26/06/2016 21:06

CV they sound lush - pink suede, how perfect for a teen Envy
DS has just flicked over to the footy, but I'm not interested in PJ Harvey anyway.

Herbs, I am praying for that outcome too.
And leave ringing your DPs till tomorrow if you don't feel up to it.

Blackduck · 26/06/2016 21:18

CV right decision.... She'll learn
Boris forged the chalice so no sympathy here... Don't bet unless you are prepared to see it through...

MrsSchadenfreude · 26/06/2016 21:38

I had the predictable conversation with my mother about Brexit: We want to take back control, immigration, make our own laws, and possibly the best one - get our hoovers back up to their full strength. Confused

It also looks like she has throat cancer - she has an urgent appointment at the hospital next Saturday morning. I offered to go with her, but she said no. ("Don't be ridiculous, why would I want you there with me?" Probably so that she can tell all of her friends and relatives that I wouldn't come to the hospital with her.

Usual lack of interest in me and the children. Told her about my eye and she said "Oh it will probably never happen - what do they know?"

motherinferior · 26/06/2016 21:45

Took eye off political ball for two (2, Ii) hours and missed more resignations...

Blackduck · 27/06/2016 08:16

MrsS so it was all about Dysons?!?
Sorry to hear about the cancer thing - even if she is being difficult.

It's been a weird old couple of days, and I guess about to get a lot weirder....

Cremo · 27/06/2016 11:02

Hoover? Was it a metaphor for something, or does she r ally think the EU has something to do with a Hoover service agreement? Grin
Seriously though Mrs S , I'm very sorry about the throat cancer. Perfectly awful.Sad But sorry as well that she can't say anything nice to you.

In domestic drudgery news , the new dishwasher hath arrived. Dh proved brilliant at 'stacking dirty dishes' in preparation for me to wash them so GoldStarAward for being 'helpful' Not.

I have a week off, thankfully , not having to listen to either Brexit or Football predictions or reactions from colleagues. Bliss!
I don't even have a plan, which is nice, so will probably list a few things on eBay and turn hand to a bit of painting and suchlike.
Closing ears to crumbling Labour Party collapse. JC has got to go. But who else is waiting in the wings? Diane Abbott?
On the other side, I suspect Boris has scored an own goal. Theresa May as PM and Diane A in opposition would be an interesting proposition though.

Lalsy · 27/06/2016 12:04

It does, Crem! Grin. Well, electrical goods consumer rights anyway - recently enhanced by EU. have a lovely week, sod everything and have some fun.

MrsS, oh no, how tough for you. But Angry and Sad for you that she is always so horrible to you.

Don't think Diane A has a chance, thank goodness. And what fresh hell is this, when the thought of May as PM comes as a relief to me?

hattymattie · 27/06/2016 12:15

Crem - I quite like the idea of Teresa and Diane with Nichola Sturgeon and Hilary Clinton - I think a few sensible women could sort this out. Also Angela Merkel seems to be leaving the door open for a retraction on our part if only we would have the courage to say we were wrong. Which would mean Boris standing up and saying he was wrong (unlikely).

Very very interesting Mrs S on Boris's reaction.

hattymattie · 27/06/2016 12:16

DD1 agrees with me - she just said "get all women in and it won't be fucked up by egos".

Blackduck · 27/06/2016 12:25

Isn't Boris' statement as reported by the Beeb, pretty much saying 'I.m wrong'. Dp said all along this was a stunt on his part, and he didn't think leave would win, what he wanted was a nice 45% 'loss' that would allow him to manoeuvre into leadership position.....

I also agree re women - funny did anyone see the research on how the genders react under stress? Men take more and move risks apparently, women don't.

bigTillyMint · 27/06/2016 13:08

Totally agree re Boris, DP - he so did not expect to win.

bigTillyMint · 27/06/2016 13:09

Re women, we all celebrating that the wicked witch had died only a few years ago. Just sayingGrin

addle · 27/06/2016 13:58

Crepeys, may I share a bit of lovely news we got on Thursday ... Dd got a first!! She was surprised and thrilled, and quick to acknowledge that she worked very hard, which is a world away from the girl who screwed up half her a-levels first time round.

Blackduck · 27/06/2016 14:01

Addle that is fantastic! Good on her :)

Collymollypuff · 27/06/2016 14:05

Fantastic news, Addle! Congrats to her! Thanks

bigTillyMint · 27/06/2016 14:11

Addle, that is fabulous! So pleased for her - so nice to have some good news in this sea of gloom SmileWineCakeFlowers

bigTillyMint · 27/06/2016 14:12

And how is her work experience going?!

motherinferior · 27/06/2016 14:14

Addle, how terrific! So pleased for her.

My own PFB reports that work experience is 'chill'Wink.

bigTillyMint · 27/06/2016 15:02

MI, where is she doing it?

DD would like to do some sort of self-started work experience (she has 3 weeks starting tomorrow with no proper plans) but no idea how to sort any out! If anyone has any suggestions...

motherinferior · 27/06/2016 15:27

The independent bookshop near her school. She's hoping for a bit of casual paid work out of it - in all honesty I'm sure she's a nice person to have around the place and cheers everyone up.

Collymollypuff · 27/06/2016 15:32

Aw, MI. I bet she does. Smile
