New thread!

Title can refer either to our upcoming holidays, or our upcoming fleeing from the Bojo-led charabanc of doom.

Just dispatched some Blissful Olverum for DSis's 50th.

Anyone fancy a small Euro-snifter this weekend?

hattymattie · 27/06/2016 16:15

Addle - congratulations to DD - fantastic news - I shall tell DD2 so she has something to hold on to.

DD1's boyfriend has reported that people who voted leave are getting bullied at work (law firms). Apparently there is much bad atmosphere.

BeachysSandyFlipFlops · 27/06/2016 16:24

Well done to Addle's DD.....Star I'm

My DD is thoroughly exhausted after four days Festival work (not that one!) and is not coming to London tonight to have dinner with me, so I might head off on a jaunt to Oxford Street or similar! This is my last but one week. I must take advantage of my centrally located hotel and the fact it isn't raining Grin

bigTillyMint · 27/06/2016 16:26

I may be able to make it on Saturday, MI - date with friends not confirmed yet!

HattySad The whole thing is really very ugly.

Cremo · 27/06/2016 18:22

Oh Addle , I am thrilled for your dd! What a fantastic result for her. You all must be grinning from ear to ear!StarStarStarStarStar

Looks like the whole Shadow Cabinet have resigned.Shock

MrsSchadenfreude · 27/06/2016 18:56

Hoorah for your DD Addle! That is fantastic news!

Don't think anyone here voted for Brexit (Turkeys, Christmas). It is truly a shitstorm with no contingency planning.

Lalsy · 27/06/2016 19:46

Many crepey cheers for addle's dd!! StarCakeWine.

Presumably this is why we have a parliament that usually makes important decisions about complex matters.......I am not in forgiving mood but won't be horrible as long as Leave voters don't try to talk to me. The link between voting patterns and educational attainment was deeply depressing.

herbaceous · 27/06/2016 20:06

What I don't understand about Brexit is why it's being allowed to just rumble on as if it's inevitable. The leave campaigners don't want it. Parliament doesn't want it. The population no longer want it, now it's sinking in. Referendums aren't legally binding. Why doesn't

They might well do, Herbs, they're clearly stalling as much as they possibly can. But it's a brave leader who goes against the wishes of the people even if they are a bunch of ignorant, easily-led fools

No bullying in our place, but I have definitely revised my opinions of the three Brexiteers in the office, and there has been much lamenting around the water cooler. Meanwhile, the dollar rate continues to slide, and my holiday looks more and more expensive.

And now, to cap a truly shit week, we appear to be losing in the football. To Iceland, who only have about 100 men of footballing age in the whole nation. Grin

GiddyGiddyGoat · 27/06/2016 20:52

Brilliant news for your dd Addle - fantastically well done to her!

I am still angry and depressed about this whole Brexit shitstorm. It feels like a bereavement of sorts and very hard to be rational about. I am compulsively drawn to having internet ranty arguments with the smug as smug and twice as thick- leavers on here all wanting tea and sympathy for feeling a tad unpopular. No sympathy forthcoming from me.

Stropperella · 27/06/2016 20:56

Addle - superb news! Very well done to your dd. Sorry to hear about your dh's nasty accident. How is he doing now?

I am currently in complete despair and disbelief about the stunning irresponsibility displayed by the key players in the Brexit farce. How is it that the info that is coming to light makes Osborne look like the least worst of a massive bunch of arrogant walkers? How bad is that?? (rhetorical q, obvs).

GiddyGiddyGoat · 27/06/2016 21:09

If you want to be REALLY depressed come and have a look at this lot....
leavers only please?!

MrsSchadenfreude · 27/06/2016 21:38

I don't see why Dave can't just tell the EU that there can be no further discussion on the issue until the referendum has been ratified by Parliament. They can't bully him into invoking Article 50 - it is done when he says it is going to be done, for all of their aggression and shoutiness.

bigTillyMint · 27/06/2016 21:39

I am deleting all EU threads as I see them about eleventy million and three so far as I can't bear it. We have been raging/crying on each others shoulders about it at knitting pub tonight.

I wish someone would stand up and say that it was all a massive mistake and that we don't want to press the button on Article 50, but there doesn't seem to be anyone brave enough to do that.

Rosebag · 27/06/2016 21:58

Bon soir Crepeys. I have returned from four days of Disneyfied fantasy living and must recommend it as the ideal decompression after exam hell. I feel like we've been immersed in a mixture of Storyville and Ground Hog Day, and I think one of us was going to strangle someone if It's A Small World soundtrack didn't stop. However, it's been such fun. The background of the Brexit disaster hasn't missed us though and DS2 is desperate, being a MFL student. Birmingham Uni emailed him literally on Friday making reassuring noises about Erasmus but DS isn't convinced.

DM is desperate, being of Belgian parentage, and DH is watching the financial nose dives with dismay, not to mention the bonus he's owed from his previous job which is paid in shares... Hmm Angry

What utter, bloody folly. What a tragic mistake. Why dont they just bloody reverse it...... even the fools who want it are back peddling like mad. And now we've lost the football against Iceland. Sad

Anyway takes deep breath ....
Fantastic news addle congrats to your DD!
Will try to catch up properly tomorrow. And huge thanks to MrsS for the guidance, which we used all the time Smile

magimedi · 27/06/2016 22:16

Amazingly well done to Addle's DD.

I am firmly fixed on the Tennis & refusing to engage in the Brexit chaos.

CointreauVersial · 27/06/2016 22:23

Ohhh...can't believe the football. Actually, I can. It seems to reflect the general feeling of rubbishness surrounding the nation right now.

Welcome back to the real world, Rose. You'll probably wish you were back in the land of Make Believe.

Forgot to say Well Done to your DD, Addle. A First is a huge achievement - you must be so proud of her.

Lalsy · 27/06/2016 23:27

re football - ds's comments from twitter that England have either misunderstood what leaving the EU meant or have to hurry home to join the shadow cabinet, mane me laugh.

As I understand it, Parliament has to vote before and probably after the trigger. Unless there has been a GE, that means most MPs voting against their beliefs to make the UK leave. It isn't just the leader - MPs especially in Leave areas could lose their seats. They will need political cover (narrowness of margin, way other countries need larger majorities for such questions, lies told etc etc), and as Herbs says many must want to - it is purely a political problem. David Lammy and others are already sewing fig leaves. The Sun today published a list of ways its readers will be worse off to cries of "Why didn't you tell us before?". I dunno, maybe it is a lost cause but I agree with Herbs, we could just not do it. Neither Gove nor Johnson turned up for the debate today, which says a lot. The racism this has unleashed - shame on them.

Rose, so pleased you had such a lovely time. Sounds like a lot of fun. They were talking about years abroad at the open day on Saturday - said they will have to arrange them individually (as they do with USA, Australia, Hong Kong etc).

I saw that thread, GGG, words fail me.

Lalsy · 27/06/2016 23:59

Sorry, bit long and ranty!

hattymattie · 28/06/2016 06:46

Agree with Herbs and Lalsy - lets just not do it. Problem is, not the Europeans want to throw us out amd make an example of us.

Football - I really don't give a hoot and don't follow but I am glad that the supporters will be going home. Some of the elements shown on Channel 4 News last night were a disgrace.

addle · 28/06/2016 07:40

Thk you all v much fr congrats we are all vv pleased although as we are all also angry and grieving (mostly me and dd) it has been v weird.
Am now furious with dh who has to go back to Paddington fr check tomorrow and is insisting he'll go by public transport (2 tubes/walk at both ends)/big roads, crowds, dodgy pavements) because a taxi is a waste of money. This from someone who before this had only managed st fit in abt 4 weeks work because of football/helping parents etc and is now out of commission fr a minimum of 6 weeks). Realise that may be fuelling it but is not a mature approach to money. Told him if he fucked up his recovery I was not sacrificing the holiday I am completely desperate fr and wld go without him. Not my finest moment. And there will be worse to come as the black dog sidles closer.
I supported Iceland last night.
And apparently Jeremy hunt this morning as he's calling fr a second referendum. Ffs

addle · 28/06/2016 08:22

Sorry v long, v ranty

BeachysSandyFlipFlops · 28/06/2016 08:27

That would infuriate me too, Addle. The stubbornness of a sick man is hard to beat.

I'm so chuffed for Iceland.

I agree that Jeremy Hunt is speaking sense, but I find it very very hard to like him. I'm thinking about joining the SDP.

What I can't work out is whether Dave should have swerved having a referendum? Would he have been able not to call it? Or was he pushed into it by the Eurosceptics? There's lots of blame and he's lost his job, but is it because he called the referendum or lost the referendum? Or both? Or just because people don't like him and used this referendum to tell him?

MrsSchadenfreude · 28/06/2016 08:30

Should we do an Ireland and keep going with the referendums until we get the right result?
