Welcome to week THREE everyone. Have you completely given up and lost your motivation yet?

This is about feeling better about yourself...not necessarily a diet per se etc etc

The Rules:

  • Sunscreen at all times. I know it's winter, there are still rays trying to damage your skin
  • No or little booze. The odd glass of wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can, I am booking out lunch hours where possible to do this
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible. I am doing my heels daily too as they're lizard like
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

You don't have to report back every day but I almost certainly will as it motivates me thinking someone is watching me.

Welcome all members old and new.

If you want some pleasurable homework, read this, St India of Knight and Polly Vernon talking about weight

Wow, prufrock, that is brilliant! Have you got a steam room at home - how lovely!

I've been quite good on the healthy eating/no alcohol front, but have only walked for 10 minutes today. I might go and do 20 minutes yoga now, actually, before retiring to bed with heel cream on.

Thank you for being impressed batters!

Well done Prufrock. I don't like yoghurt or oj but actually, Granola's quite nice dry and because it's dry I HAVE to drink at least half a litre of water with it so that's good.

Went to bed at 11.30 BAD but have a healthy lunch of lentils and prawns with me.

My skin is TERRIBLE this am, I have an attractive crop of spots around my nose, mmm, nice.

Batters, I have ordered the book, will post full details when I've got it and have had a chance to have a look at it, sb later this week.

Morning. Can I join? I think I need to, as I've kept thinking recently I look an utter mess - tired, run down, hair like straw despite daily conditioner - and have definitely been neglecting myself due to various strains and worries in my life. Healthy eating for today is already hopeless, as dh made me a cooked breakfast this morning , but never mind. Sitting at my desk now with a bottle of OJ.

batters

OMG, is that the kind of impression I make?

(p.s. thank you again!)

Monkeytrousers · 16/01/2007 09:56

Right, off to do 30 mins on the cross trainer!

prufrock · 16/01/2007 11:19

Yes I have a steam room - had it put in when we redid the bathroom/bedroom last year. One end is steam, the other the shower (with two heads, natch - one for overhead rain, the other for skin stripping pressure) TBH I hadn't really used it until recently - too much faff to turn it on and wait for it to warm up, but now I do it as I go into the gym and it's ready once I've finished. It is wonderful.

welcome FIT - be warned - we all found we looked worse before we got better - but I am now feeling much better - and as www predicted, it is no longer a habit to reach for a glass of wine in the evening. I've even started writing essays again

arfishy · 16/01/2007 11:25

Rightio. Am off to bed (at a WWW approved time please note).

Did the sunscreen/handcream/bodylotion. Drank gallons of water.

Had some Dick Smith Bush Foods for breakfast (with skimmed milk)
2 wholemeal rolls with one hard boiled egg & some salad (no butter or dressing)
Some mango
Some crackers with low-fat philly.
A teeny taste test of some Marsy Lemon Drizzle Cake

I went to the gym too and actually braved the treadmill for the first time, and managed not to comedy splat myself on the opposite wall in front of all of the gym bunnies.

I didn't realise, but they go uphill. There I was just ambling slowly along and it suddenly went into mountaineering mode .

winnie · 16/01/2007 16:17

Have just eaten my lunch (I know I left it so late I ate two bowls of homemade lentil soup and now I feel like i am going to explode). Have drunk lots of water today, been doing loads of 'creaming' and although I am very overweight and have a long road a head generally I am feeling ok about me. Coffee intake still too high. Alcohol intake is down to 1-2 glasses x once or twice a week at the moment.

I've read lots about the India Knight book but as a veggie I just find it hard to get my head around high protein, low carb diets.

Batters, thanks for asking, happiness is still very lacking. Will possibly start a thread about everything but to cut a very long story short being impotent to prevent ones child falling apart further is heartbreaking and I am struggling somewhat.

Dinosaur · 16/01/2007 16:27

winnie,

Someone in my group has a birthday today, but I have eschewed the Krispy Kremes in favour of a granola, fruit & nut square. Feeling very virtuous (even though I obviously didn't really need said square).

And just drank a whole bottle of mineral water in a meeting.

Winnie, sorry things aren't good Keep this up though if it's making you feel any better.

Batters, wow, you've got a walking machine? I kid myself I'd use one if I had it. Yeah, right. And Prufrock has a steam room AND a gym? Please clarify! And lol at Arfy and uphill, blimey, uphill I find really hard.
FIT, tis true. I look a LOT better these days. I have days of my skin looking a bit dodgy but on the whole I look loads better. And I definitely feel it.

Today, quite good so far:
Body lotion
Granola
an apple
100g lentils and a few prawns
another apple
Easily 2 litres water
40 minutes walk
WITH sunscreen
and am def having an early night as it was 11.30 last night, which is too late as dd has taken to waking at 6am again
We are having stir fried chicken tonight with pitta

ex dh has brought chapatis, am manfully resisting them. {halo}

Oati · 16/01/2007 18:07

It's been quie a good day for me - I have even changed my name to a nice healthy one

Monkeytrousers · 16/01/2007 18:16

I'm a veggie too Winnie and on low carb it felt like the only thing I could eat was cheese omlettes! Blurgh

Porrige
2 wholewheat pittas with hommous dip
1 bag of seabrookes at supermarket
Bite of DS's apple
2 wholewheat pittas with salad and hommous

(I'll be cutting down to one when I stop feeling so hungry)

But I did do 2k on the cross trainer, some light weights and sit ups

Monkeytrousers · 16/01/2007 18:17

So is granola fruit oat and nut bars?

Monkeytrousers · 16/01/2007 18:18

must learn to spell houmous is I'm going to eat it so much.

My target is just to get rid of xmas love handles - to start

Sobernow, my Dh said "you're like a new woman" and then said "not that you needed to be any different, and not that I'd want a new woman, you know..."

Granola is seeds and things, see the link below for the ingredients. I have to say I didn't know what it was before buying it in the last few weeks.

ha ha at oati!

Lentils are good sources of veg protein, puy ones with lemon juice, olive oil (v small amt), black pepper and thyme are lovely. I think some people spell it hummus, others houmous, others houmus. I think they're all acceptable aren't they?

Bon Soir ladies.

Am just back from an 8km run.

Shall I fuck off now?

foundintranslation · 16/01/2007 18:39

Evening all. Thanks for the welcome. Am encouraged to hear about looking better - I'm an absolute state atm.
Today was OK on the food front, after the cooked breakfast. Had filled fresh pasta (shop-bought, alas) for lunch, with a bit of butter and plenty of fresh basil, then an apple this afternoon (oh, and a hot chocolate , but no cream), and dh is making a carrot and potato soup for tonight. Haven't had as much water as I should have, though. Am not drinking atm anyway. Have walked to and from work (10 mins each way) twice. Hand cream has been applied.
Happiness is lacking here too, I'm afraid. Had a good cry this afternoon

foundintranslation · 16/01/2007 18:41

(oh, am off now to do that final leg from work - have just taught a frustratingly obtuse class of first-semester undergrads. Will check in later)
