WWW's six week 10 year younger boot camp, Jan to half term, WEEK THREE

Welcome to week THREE everyone. Have you completely given up and lost your motivation yet?

This is about feeling better about yourself...not necessarily a diet per se etc etc

The Rules:

  • Sunscreen at all times. I know it's winter, there are still rays trying to damage your skin
  • No or little booze. The odd glass of wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can, I am booking out lunch hours where possible to do this
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible. I am doing my heels daily too as they're lizard like
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

You don't have to report back every day but I almost certainly will as it motivates me thinking someone is watching me.

Welcome all members old and new.

If you want some pleasurable homework, read this, St India of Knight and Polly Vernon talking about weight

I've no idea - need - more - sugar - - - caffine - booze - - kill Buzz Lightyear

yoyo · 16/01/2007 20:33

Winnie - India Knight book not good for veggies (there is a weeny note about it). I quote "It is not entirely impossible to follow if you are vegetarian, but it is not by any means vegetarian friendly".

Not having a good day as have been picking at bits and pieces. Made a batch of Welsh cakes and nibbled at all the bits that crumbled off - might as well have just eaten a couple.

I have done all the other stuff though including a really intense Pilates class so am not going to be too hard on myself.

Feeling shattered, look shattered - early night and no alcohol for me. Am going to wake up tomorrow feeling refreshed.

moondog · 16/01/2007 20:43

Sorry to be picky, but why swell India's coffers? She says nothing we don't know already.

Eat less

Get off yer arse.

foundintranslation · 16/01/2007 20:52

Thanks WWW - yes, I did feel better in a calm-after-the-storm kind of way, but still not really Happy. Never mind - am going to make myself a cup of fruit tea, drink it and go to bed (not as virtuous as it sounds, I'm an hour ahead so should just about make 10.30 bedtime).

Nice to see you back moondog

moondog · 16/01/2007 20:53

Thank you FIT
Why are you sad?

foundintranslation · 16/01/2007 20:58

oh, nothing dramatic - overtired, tricky life/job situation (uncertainty and insecurity all round - my contract running out in less than 3 months (sole earner, no new job as yet, we're supposed to be moving for dh's PhD but don't know yet about funding), WOHM guilt, miles and miles from friends, by whom I'm feeling unappreciated, fed up of teaching spoilt 20-year-olds with f all critical faculties, bit worried bout dh. Just a pile of little things. Thanks for asking

Monkeytrousers · 16/01/2007 20:58

Mooney I was only joking!

foundintranslation · 16/01/2007 20:59

just remembered I've got a load of washing to hang up. a*se.

(hey ho, at least it's exercise...)

yoyo · 16/01/2007 21:01

I am a third of the way through the IK book and have to say that it does not appeal to me. I think the Digested Read in the Guardian was on target! I am sure that this style of book would help some people though but "Not I" said the welsh one with the lardy look (bloody Little Red Hen is one of DS's favourites). It isn't an eat less and exercise more though, you do have to change the way you eat, i.e. low carb. She does say that it fits in with family meals but this wouldn't be the case at ours.

MD - when you were on your way to the svelte lady you are now didn't you follow a low-carbish eating regime? Don't know why I think this but seem to recall a couple of tablespoons of brown rice ( I usually have a mound which is why it has probably stuck). I am very impressed that you are still running - did your DH keep up the regime too?

moondog · 16/01/2007 21:06

MT,I know. Was pissing myself at 'harbinger of quilts' as am a quilter.

Yoyo,I was never fat, just wanted to get a bit trimmer.Yes,I think (lowish) carb makes sense esp. in context of eating unprocessed food which I do.

You're right though,we are probably all over generos with portions.
I have a fit when I see how many calories are in a titchy ready meal or salad.

My current craze is for soya beans. Even the frozen are great.I eat them as a snack or in a salad.

moondog · 16/01/2007 21:07

Sorry to hear that FIT.
You've got a lot on your plate.

moondog · 16/01/2007 21:12

Yoyo,my dh hurt his back very badly a few months ago so had to stop going to the gym.
He says he is ready to try again now.

I find a mix of stuff keeps me motivated-bike,running,gym and step classes.
I really like running outside though. It makes me feel alive.

foundintranslation · 16/01/2007 21:13

one load of washing less now though moondog... [plucky ]

SnafuOutOfHiding · 16/01/2007 21:32

Ahem. Not bad today (ish).

  1. Went to yoga which is as near as dammit exercise as far as I'm concerned (i.e. plenty of lying down in a darkened room )
  2. Appear to be eating mostly homemade soup and fruit. Also addicted to Food Doctor seeds (as is ds, bizarrely enough...)
  3. No alcohol for the last six days
  4. Sunscreen a-go-go
  5. Lots of water and have rediscovered camomile tea - weeing for England

I did snaffle a few chocs last night from a box that had been cunningly hidden throughout Xmas, and I did have two choc chip cookies at lunch today (but, m'lud, I was at a friend's house and she just put them in front of me!) but all in all I have done pretty well so far, I reckon.

prufrock · 16/01/2007 21:56

Erm yes www - gym (cross trainer, stepper, bike, weight bench, yoga mat and TV) was the first room I finished in the house - did it for dh, who has exercised enormous willpower over the last year, cut right back on alcohol (which was an occupational hazard) and does at least 5 45 minute sessions a week. He has consequently lost 3 stone and no longer has dangerously high blood pressure (and looks seriously hot). And teh steam room was the only thing he specified as essential when I re-did the bedroom. It is really rather pathetic that I haven't got fit before with all the facilities I have.

prufrock · 16/01/2007 21:56

Today started off OK with muesli, but then I had a bakefest for the pre-school teatime so lunch was only bowl lickings and tastings of Gingerbread, Mint-choc brownies and courgette cake (but courgettes are vegetables). Have also drunk far too much coffee and far too little water, and have just been babysitting for my friend whilst she went to A&E with a bleeding cornea so missed out on my gym session. Am about to eat chicken saag and rice (ready meal but "perfectly balanced" one) and will drink water with it. But then I'll probably go to bed late as dh is out and I can't sleep until he's in. Oh well - tomorrow is another day.

Winnie - I know it doesn't help much when you are actually experiencing the crap of a teenager going wrong, but I went quite spectacularily wrong (not talking to family for 3 years and spending £20k on drugs sort of wrong) and eventually turned out OK. so there is hope for the long term.....

Monkeytrousers · 16/01/2007 22:05

How about this guru?? I was pissing myself laughing flicking through it in Waterstones. DP said I should buy it [deadpan emoticon]

WideWebWitch · 16/01/2007 22:16

Yeah yeah Md, we all know that eat less exercise more stuff but I WANT to read the India and Neris book. I mostly don't agree with India Knight's column but I like the sound of the book. And I'll return it if it's crap.

So, to echo MT, fuck off this thread you thin fit woman, you! Leave us to our middle aged musings! You can come back any time you're looking haggard
