WWW's six week 10 year younger boot camp, Jan to half term, WEEK THREE

WideWebWitch · 15/01/2007 07:16

Welcome to week THREE everyone. Have you completely given up and lost your motivation yet?

This is about feeling better about yourself...not necessarily a diet per se etc etc

The Rules:

  • Sunscreen at all times. I know it's winter, there are still rays trying to damage your skin
  • No or little booze. The odd glass of wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can, I am booking out lunch hours where possible to do this
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible. I am doing my heels daily too as they're lizard like
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

You don't have to report back every day but I almost certainly will as it motivates me thinking someone is watching me.

Welcome all members old and new.

If you want some pleasurable homework, read this, St India of Knight and Polly Vernon talking about weight

WWW - so do you think you'll give IK a go? I got put off when I read the list of supplements but I really would love to hear if someone does it, enjoys it and allows it to become a blueprint for life (as they seem to suggest).

MD - I knew you had wanted to be fitter not thinner. It's great to do the double though!

swedishmum · 17/01/2007 12:00

My jeans are feeling decidedly loose. Loads of fruit/vegetables and lots more energy but I've lapsed a bit on the red wine. Tried to do the Paul McKenna thing to put myself off it but sadly no luck.

winnie · 17/01/2007 12:59

prufrock, that is very encouraging thanks everyone for your kind words.

I am having an after lunch (at desk) slump right now and am desperate for coffee but am resisting. Have just eaten a LOT of grapes. But generally this boot camp is working and I have vowed that I am going to get into a walking to fitness thing this week

Good luck all

Zog · 17/01/2007 13:11

Hello all

Have fallen off the wagon slightly (although am still sunscreening and moisturising) but am climbing back on board as we speak.

You're all doing fantastically well - very inspiring

Sorry to hear things are tough winnie

Prufrock - can I move into your house??

sunnywong · 17/01/2007 13:13

all this exercise is fatiguing me greatly, but then it may just be my pesky 'roid. Hope so as that's fixable.

I did not go to Burger King and get a double whopper with cheese and bacon today. Pat me.

furcoatandnoknickers · 17/01/2007 14:45

im just recovering from flu (last week) and feel decidedly slug-like. When do you think I will be able to start running without coughing up my proverbials??
2 x double expressos boo
burgen bread v. healthy sandwich
tons water
slathered in Khiels creme de corps

oh ...and one very small oreo cookie boo

4 x solpadine (not all in one go) not great as have heard could be adictive, but I love them and still feel shit.
4 x omega 3 + 6
1 x milk thistle
2 x ginseng

Do you think im od-ing on the medicine cabinet? Mores the point do you think they match/work together?

Monkeytrousers · 17/01/2007 19:25

Is that pat for patronise Suze?

You're a very good girl! Well done sweetheart.

How was that?

I have also done well, not an over indulgence all day and I've shifted DS into the bigger room. Heavy lifting for hours.

Therefore, in the words of Charlie Brooks, I WIN!!

(nb Haven't read any posts yet so I might be talking bollocks, as per..)

CAMy · 17/01/2007 19:48

Oh dear last night became slightly rubbish in boot camp terms as I went out with a few women and we had a dinner (but no starter or dessert for me) and one or two people bought me some nice glasses of merlot. It would have been very bad manners to refuse, wouldn't it?

Had a slight headache when went to work this morning so serves me right but ate lots of fruit and drank lots of evian. Was feeling good about that but came home to find dh had bought a curry. Ah well, tomorrow's another day.

Did walk about a mile on way to work and back though as couldn't find anywhere nearer than half a mile to park.

WideWebWitch · 17/01/2007 20:10

Er yes, a pat on the head Suze for not going to BK. And a pat on the head for anyone else who managed NOT to go to McDonalds/Lardy McLards/Krispy Kremes.

Well done Batters
Welcome fcandnoknicks, no idea about supplements but not sure you're eating enough
Winnie, have coffee if you want it, it's hard enough giving up cakes and booze, I think coffee's allowed!
Zog, welcome back on the wagon

Well, the India and Neris book turned up and I've only had time to glance at it but it looks interesting. I like their before and after pictures.

I've been ok today

100g Granola
an apple
handful of grapes
2 brazil nuts
few soya nuts
100g lentils with capers
apple
hazlenut and sultana bar
Americano coffee
salmon steak with garlic butter (380 cals)
peas
sweet potato mash
2 litres of water easily
walked 30 minutes at lunchtime
wore sunscreen

Yay, a good day I think.

Well done everyone. I counted the days we've been doing this and it's only 16 (with days where I've been drinking at the weekend but not in the week) and I feel SO much better. I have loads more energy too and despite a few spots I really do look better, I know.

What is your lentil recipe WWW? I have some continental lentils, (as long as the red soup variety) will they work?

Monkeytrousers · 17/01/2007 21:18

Also WWW, have you tried mashing some broccoli in with your sweet potato? Yum

WideWebWitch · 17/01/2007 21:21

MT, the lentils I have for lunch aren't really cooked to a recipe but I am finding them a great alternative to bread at lunchtime. I cook a load at the weeked and leave them in the fridge and they last me for 4/5 lunches.

They're Puy ones, simmered until they're soft and eg tomorrows lunch is lentils with a few large prawns and capers and black pepper thrown in with them. But sometimes I make a mixture of lemon juice and olive oil and fresh thyme and pour it over and then add a bit of feta, you don't need to use much to get a nice taste. And just a small amount of olive oil is fine.

Zog - please do feel free. You'll have to kick my tosser of a little brother out of the spare room though - but I am positive you would be a beter house guest - couldn't really be worse.

Today I had muesli, falafel and houmous wrap, large latte, grapes, pumpkin seeds, 3 cinnamon stars (I know, but my friend made them and they are delicious) lemony lentils with roast cod and lots of water. And I did yoga, albeit a quick session.

WideWebWitch · 17/01/2007 21:25

Btw, am reading India/Neris and posting from laptop on sofa and so far, I LIKE it. But I've only got to the how they got so fat bit.

Evening all

Feeling better today. Half an hour's chat to one of my dearest friends and a slightly more optimistic assessment of our situation lifted me right up.

Today:
walked to and from work twice
toast (white ) and marmite for breakfast, penne with fresh basil and grated cheddar for lunch, fruit in the afternoon, more penne with homemade tomato sauce for dinner - not bad overall, but prob not enough fibre
have skimped a bit on the sunscreen and hand cream, I'm afraid

WWW, the lentils sound lovely, I might try that.

Monkeytrousers · 17/01/2007 21:34

Glad you're feeling better FiT (that's a great acronym for this thread BTW!)

Would your DP not consider postponing his PhD until you are more happy and secure? I am. Needs must.

foundintranslation · 17/01/2007 21:48

MT - wish I was (fit, that is...)
I took my current job when dh was finishing his first degree and had no job in sight - we had to move - he started work on his PhD, which was a kind of natural progression of what he'd been concentrating on during his degree, while looking for work down here but unable to find anything, and then I got pg. We decided he would SAH and I would go back after mat leave (we live very close to my work and it's flexible, so it also worked in terms of bf etc.). Since then he's been a SAHD and done work on his PhD whenever we could fit it in. So he really doesn't have any experience as such which would make him very employable outside academia atm, and so the best thing really is to press on with the PhD and get funding. (He is a psychologist and has been researching history of psychology).

Monkeytrousers · 17/01/2007 21:56

Crikey, I wish my DP was as understanding as you. Best of luck finding a job anyway

foundintranslation · 17/01/2007 22:01

Believe me, I have my moments of thinking 'Why can't he be a provider???', but I figure he will, eventually, one day. The labour market in Germany has been very difficult for the last few years and the jobs I've had I've only got because of being an English native speaker. dh has really found his niche with all this history stuff and people who are influential in the field are backing his application, so we live in hope
Hope you manage to get yours done at some point Thanks for the good luck wishes - feel like I need them right now!

Monkeytrousers · 17/01/2007 23:10

Obviously, I am up far to late...

It majorly windy down here today.

Thanks for the inspiration so far www and am picturing you looking radiant Batters

Dinosaur · 18/01/2007 15:53

Home-made leek and potato soup for dinner last night. Tuna salad (no dressing) for lunch today. Did yoga/pilates at lunchtime.

Am getting highlights redone tonight, which always cheers me up too.
