Oh poor cresset, maybe you need to be wafting chloroform around (for her not you)?

MrsCocoa · 27/04/2016 21:56

This calls for Beaufort 1805 (not something I say very often...).

flightywoman · 28/04/2016 16:33

I went for Ma Griffe today. It's YEARS - like, over 35 years - since I had any. I have realised that I think my step-mama wears it, or has done...

I did a small dab on the wrist this morning, very alcohol-y to begin with and I thought "Oh no, it's gone", but then it settled down quickly to a powdery chypre smell. And it's lasted quietly but well, it's still there. I don't love it as much as the fresher greener chypres but I like it a lot more than I did when I had a bottle in the late 70s/early 80s.

cressetmama · 28/04/2016 16:49

No Beaufort 1805 but the closest sample to hand was Frapin 1270, which I can't remember well. Today, it's full of saffron and plastic.

Tis a good thing that there's not a bottle of chloroform anywhere close by Ambroxide; I would be tempted!

cressetmama · 28/04/2016 16:50

I must have a little splurge on some of the Boadicea samples; I got as close as signing up for an account, then had a Halo moment.

FrustratedFrugal · 28/04/2016 16:51

Just gardenia today, too busy for perfume.

MissBattleaxe · 28/04/2016 17:46

SOTD Mary Greenwell Fire. One sniff and I bought a full bottle. It's superb and only 19.50 at the moment.

ggirl · 28/04/2016 18:02

ooooh really !!! what's it like ??

MissBattleaxe · 28/04/2016 18:19

It's superb. It opens with grapefruit and nutmeg, then there's roses and jasmine, then there's a terrific woody spicy base of sandalwood, cedar, teak, patchouli and vetiver. I could happily marinate myself in it forever. It smells far more expensive than it was.

MsBojangles · 28/04/2016 18:42

Oh no, I can't justify another one...can I?

What is it reminiscent of, MissB?

wiltingfast · 28/04/2016 18:56

I've never heard of MG! Where do I find them? They sound gorgeous...

ggirl · 28/04/2016 18:59

oh bugger , sounds gorgeous ..

ggirl · 28/04/2016 19:13

mary greenwell

ggirl · 28/04/2016 19:13

just treated myself ..again

ggirl · 28/04/2016 19:14

For £20 I got the lemon one and love it ..the bottle and massive gold top is gorgeous ..bargain!

MissBattleaxe · 28/04/2016 21:25

They're on special offer in the Fragrance Shop. I don;t usually like it in there as its very mainstream and the assisatnts alwasy drive me towards stuff I won;t like. I went in as they had a "under £20" stand and there was the Mary Greenwell range. Usual RRP £65 for 50ml.

MissBattleaxe · 28/04/2016 21:25

sorry for typos.

MrsCocoa · 29/04/2016 00:31

You are bad influences. I nipped into the Fragrance Shop earlier and tried all the Mary Greenwell's. Liked Fire the best - a soapy spicy oud. Thought the cherry was interesting too as it seemed to develop from cough sweet to musk/wood.

Plum reminds me of something big in the 80s/90s - any ideas?

flightywoman · 29/04/2016 11:26

My 2 Mary Greenwell pocket sizes arrived today.

Lemon! Oh my goodness, it's so lovely! Exactly my kind of thing.

The plum is a bit sweeter, I think I'll like it but not love it.

Love the packaging, and how the top is magnetic to the base.

Thanks for the recommendation.

MissBattleaxe · 29/04/2016 11:31

Plum is quite tuberose-y and reminded me of a more palatable version of Poison with a hint of LouLou.

My favourite is Fire, but I am keen to get Lemon too. The nose is Francois Robert, who also does Friedemodin so we are in good hands!

flightywoman · 29/04/2016 12:00

Thanks Miss B. The plum has mellowed nicely, I like it more an hour in to the wearing.

teta · 29/04/2016 12:34

The Plum is actually quite a gentle interpretation of Poison.I used to hate Poison but Plum is really quite lovely and Cold weather appropriate .It's been too cold for Lemon this week.

The thing about Francois Robert is that his perfumes are really well constructed but often not immediate, outright love .Then a few days later you realise you just can't live without them.

Now I'm just wondering about buying Fire.Shall i just bite the bullet?Has anyone compared it to Onde Sensuelle? It seems to share many of the same notes.

Sotd is California Reverie.I love this perfume so much but it's so weak now.I've used up 2/3 of a 75ml bottle in 3 months.

MsBojangles · 29/04/2016 13:14

The Fragrance Shop is having a flash sale, 15% off everything between 1 and 3pm.

Tempting...

MissBattleaxe · 29/04/2016 13:24

I found Fire to be a little like Terre d'Hermes.

MsBojangles · 29/04/2016 13:45

SOTD: Still enjoying the warmth of 5 o'clock au gingermbre.
