Well, I've grabbed the bull by the horns & am leaping into the new thread........

Felt very sad no one else had started one whilst I scoffed dined.

If no one like the title I am more than happy to have it deleted & go with anything else.

DH has taken over the catering for the month of February......... the food is good but the angst is another matter Grin

MI, 4 years when one is 14/15 and one is 18/19 does sound a lot - different when the younger one is 17 and the older 21 or even 25 (this has nothing to do with me back in the day, of course!)
Your DP is her dad. They see things quite differently to mums re their DD's (voice of experience!)

Yes, I like the bf - seems quite sensible not that I could hear him talking to DD after I laid it on the line last night and laughs loads, and makes her laugh loads which is always a good sign. But despite him being here loads over the last 5 months, I don't get to chat to him loadsWink

That sounds excellent, BTM, sensible and cheerful/funny!

MI, not quite sure what text flirting is.....seems odd he is interested as 14 year olds seem so young to 18 year olds IME. Anyway, if he has been spawned by the thing we don't mention, dh should definitely horsewhip him Grin.

Yes cant your DP poke him in the privates with his retractable sword or whatever?Grin

BTM - glad all is sorted for DM and DD - now you can go and really enjoy your holiday.

MI - would be annoyed about text flirting and agree with BTM about swift poke.

DD1 had her interview - so now we wait ...

Happy Birthday, WAF!! CakeFlowersWine

LOL at MI's DP! No shotgun to hand, but he can always wave a retractable sword at any over-eager suitors. Grin No BFs or GFs on the scene for any of mine at the moment. DS seems to be keeping his options open Hmm and the DDs are completely uninterested. Long may it last.

Just back from dropping DD2 at gymnastics. She had finally got to the top of the waiting list and started classes today....just as DD1 starts her enforced break due to her ankle, grrr. DD1 and I watched for a while from the gallery, with DD1 scoffing and giving me a running commentary of all the bendy things she can do that DD2 can't.

And hamster has been laid to rest in the shrubbery, tucked inside a toothpaste box. Sad

NOT sexting, I'm pretty sure. I've seen the odd 'you're cute' and I think that's who Dd2 referred to as a 'bae'. I might get DP on the case. Last time he said they were the same age, so I'm getting faintly confused.

Maybe a dawn duel, with retractable swords. In slow motion.

Dd goes to lots of concerts all over London. She came back from one recently and said she is regularly hit on by 30-year-olds, who think she is their age. She and her friend could easily pass for 25 or so. But they are only 17. They seem to be well practised in fending these men off - the men are shocked when they say "I'm 17!" and then they back right off. But that looking much older than you are is quite risky for a young woman.

Oh CV, hope you sang Abide with Me or whatever is the current hampster burial hymn!

Just had a chat with MIL who is being very supportive. DD is asking about train tickets. Fingers and toes crossed!

Yes, older guys often hit on me at that age as I looked much older. Some also hit on DD and her friends despite them looking 16, albeit very cute. I also advise them to say how old they are!

Hello, bonjour and Hi ya,
I am in final transit from the City of Love to the City of Rain. Can barely keep my eyes open.
Yes, Hatty it is very cold. Had to run to Zara and buy us both a basic polo neck each.

First of all happy birthday WAF old thing!, hope you are enjoying your day with no tooth pain.balloons and small candles on cakes to youThanksCake

Mini Stropps fantastic news re driving. That's just marvellous. Well done to d S-d for keeping her on track to pass.

Mi I'd be a little worried, from past experience , if the boy is 18+ and dd is under 16. There is an issue there I'm afraid. Even if they thing it's just for laughs. He is putting himself in a pretty serious situation dallying with younger girls.
It may be completely innocent, I know, but I'd be wary.possibly dp is thinking along these lines already.

Happy Birthday WAF!

I had a 19 year old Spanish holiday romance when I was 13. Shock He was a waiter. Grin And didn't just want to kiss and hold hands.

DD2 dealt quite neatly with an older boy (she thought he was about 19 or 20) hassling her for her phone number at the bus stop - she said "I'm 14. That's the only number you need."

I have to write a "humorous blog" on what our department does. (I have been volunteered.) What we do is not terribly funny and I am a bit stuck for ideas. If anyone has any, PM me, and I'll send you a link to what it is we do.

Well done Stropps DD - took me 3 goes ... am surprised ever managed

BTM - sorry not to get back to you sooner about DD, work frantic and I've not really surfaced. Think your solution that DD goes off to named adults is fine, if annoying for the rest of you. What used to happen to us was that DD would swear up and down she had people to stay with sorted and then she just wouldn't. She'd be here, we'd get texts from neighbours saying all well but you do realise she's having parties and then there would be bottles upside down in wellington boots and sticky floors on our return. Nothing ever really horrible but dead wearing.

Hope the remaining three of you have a wonderful time.

V impressed by DD2, Mrs S, how vv poised

I have a very warped sense of humor!

If that will help, feel free to PM me Mrs.S.

When I was young (last century) having a boyfriend who was older was seen as a real feather in one cap. When I think of what I fended off I now feel quite shocked by my teenage self. I was a real horror - I Blush when I remember my hissy fits.

Feel free to PM me, MrsS but don't get your hopes up for me being useful. Can't you write one called "MrsS and her well run department. And zombies" Grin. Brilliant response from your dd.

ds was friendly with an older girl last year (15 vs 17/18?). I have no idea what they talked about but he did let slip that he had cunning plans to outwit a presumably similarly smitten mate and walk her to the station Grin. She towered over them both. He wouldn't let that sort of info slip these days.....

Addle, you don't know how much better your post has made me feel! Maybe your DD was older, but that was exactly the type of thing I feared happening with DD. It may still yet happen of course.

MM, I am hoping DD will be Blush about her hissy fits. Her DB will definitely remind her!
And yes, a much older bf was a badge of honour. Funny how I am married to a younger man. As is his DM and I could imagine DS being the same!

Grin Molly - that made me giggle. No, the hamster didn't have the foresight to take out a Co-op funeral plan. So it was a toothpaste box in the shrubbery, and no Abide With Me choir.

BTM, she was the same age - it's partly the immaturity that causes it I think.

I got involved with someone much, much older at that age (40s). I'd be so angry with and contemptuous of a man who had approach dd in that way. 1970s, mind

Aww, I shed a tear for CV's Tiny Hamster. We still have mournful moments thinking about Big Fat Hamster who expired here last summer.

BTM, hope the placement with MIL works out. That's very decent of her to have the bf too. I reckon that your dd will be kicking herself sometime in the future for turning down a skiing holiday. Hope you manage to have the lovely relaxing holiday that you so very much deserve.

I have completed my first halfterm at my new job. Yay! Go me. I'm knackered.

Thank you very much for all your good wishes re: dd and her driving test pass. She really is so chuffed. It's the first time she has really persevered with something she found very difficult. She gave up lessons twice and had umpty-two hissy fits about how hard it was, and considering the utter state she has been in generally for the last 6 months, it is very impressive that she managed to keep her nerve and get through the test. Even just before Christmas, she was having panic attacks while driving and once jumped out of the car and ran home in tears, because she stalled repeatedly at a busy junction and got a lot of aggressive tooting from other drivers. Dh was left to drive home.

dd has also been to school every day this week and 4 out of 5 days last week.

Happy birthday, WAF!

MrsS, I love your dd2's line in put-downs.

Funerals: I don't want one. I want my family to throw my ashes on the compost heap. There is a family precedent. My dm and her surviving db and his wife had a vote on where to dispose of my gm's ashes, because she had told them they could either sprinkle her on the top of Box Hill or throw her on the compost heap. The vote went 2-1 in favour of Box Hill. My dm was the one who voted for the compost heap.
