Oh my goodness Stokey I'm in awe. Will definitely pray for good weather for you! And I'm sure you looked great at the christening. I'd have been well wrapped up too Xmas Smile

If I was feeling better, I'd definitely be making more effort this Christmas, but as it is I'm glad that DH and I are still "the younger generation" of our family, so being childless, we are going to my mum's for Christmas Day for 3 nights, then to his parents for a few days after. I'm terrible at entertaining because I've never really had to do it. Blush

I had a random late night call from the doctors last night (different doctor) and apparently both the tests they did were actually positive (glandular fever and CMV). I think we were both confused! So back for more tests on Thurs and I'll see her for the results on Monday and that will take me up to Christmas. It's a shame I'll miss my work Christmas party as I had an outfit all planned sad.

shop just had a quick look and wood looks black to me, think it refers to the wood heel?

QueenC · 15/12/2015 14:48

shop I always thought that wood were a browny grey colour.
dry he managed to dig the splinter out with my very sharp tweezers. I couldn't even swear as the kids were watching Grin
blair hope you get the answers soon.

Ive worked out that my back pain may all be due to the mmr jab as you can get joint pain. Ive also got some swollen nodes which is another side effect.

No fashion news to report but have just spent £300 on new glasses/sunglasses.

Ordered this dress this morning which I have been eyeing up for ages and will clearly never be in the sale. Want it for our party on Saturday and probably Christmas Day. High hopes.
Stokey Love the idea of disco with glow sticks - fingers crossed for the weather - brave lady Xmas Smile

shopafrolic · 15/12/2015 14:53

BLair sorry if already mentioned but what is CMV?

LinusLovesBretons · 15/12/2015 15:08

Here you all are! Thanks queenc for setting up the new thread. And ouch on the splinter.

I am a very bad MNVoguette as I haven't been on here a lot but these last few weeks have been hectic and my energy levels have been very low again. I think another visit to the GP is due in the new year.

shop that dress is so you, good choice.

blair how confusing! I think CMV is cytamegalovirus (sp?) and I know I've never had it as I had to be careful when I was pregnant not to come into contact with small children's bodily fluids as that's how it gets passed on the most and it can be bad for the foetus.

No purchases to report here apart from a pair of navy APC trousers that went straight back as they were too big on me and the style too baggy.

QueenC · 15/12/2015 15:11

Can totally see you in that shop. How will you wear it?

OP posts:
Drywhitethanks · 15/12/2015 15:51

Whoa QueenC mine are just reading glasses, considerably less bit of flirting with cute young optician, naughty meXmas Grin and.....I really hate how close they get to your face when they are looking at the back of your eye, I was close enough to kiss him, didn't kniw where to look was told to look at the door

Stokey you're a brave woman, what a lovely do though. My Christmas is a bit sedate this year, max invitees at one time 12.

Shop that dress looks great for you.

Out to my friend's first book launch tonight. Not quite sure what to wear, but, you know me I'd rather over dress.....so Im thinking leather skirt, fine knit red or burgundy sweater and statement necklace, shoe boots the really high ones or safer mid heels?

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 15/12/2015 16:14

shop great dress, I love things you can dress down or up, need more like that in my wardrobe.

Yep Linus is right on the CMV, I'd never heard of it either. But the doctor rang me just after I posted, and she has spoken to the testing lab and confirmed it's 100% glandular fever after all. Clear as mud! At least I can shut up about it a bit now Grin

QueenC Shock ouch, glad the splinter's out though. I didn't know you'd had the MMR recently, hope you feel better soon.

Linus hope you feel better too. Despite not really having had a winter here yet, I think we are all ready for Spring to arrive!

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 15/12/2015 16:24

oh dear blair at least you know now though and can hopefully get plenty of rest int he next few weeks. i had glandular fever as a teen and it wiped me out for ages. hope you feel better soon Thanks

Love the dress shop it's very you

stokey you are far far braver than me, the only people i ever 'host' are my brothers and sisters!

linus sorry to hear you've been feeling under the weather, hope you feel brighter soon Thanks

HappyGirlNow · 15/12/2015 16:49

Love that dress shop !! Grin

libertydoddle · 15/12/2015 17:28

oh wow Stokey that puts my much smaller group into perspective!!

Shop perfect dress for you. Good call. I don't think you'll regret it even if it does go down a bit in the sale.

I am debating a few items - all reduced but wondering if they may go down further but then again I want some for over Christmas... will link later if I go for it.

Has anyone bought any knee high brown boots recently or seen any nice ones?

Blair good to have a diagnosis - my brother had glandular fever a few years ago. He kept trying to go out and is famous in his social circle for falling asleep standing up in a nightclub while holding a pint. It took him 6-8 months to recover properly but that was probably made worse by his reluctance to accept reality and stop partying for a while.

Ouch on the splinter QueenC - I thought applying magnesium sulphate paste helps to draw them out - tip for next time Wink

Did a little bit of work from home today - appetite back (I never lose it for long Grin). Had fun making Christmas decorations with DD - just paper chains and painting pine cones - all good fun. Back to work properly tomorrow.

Karcheer · 15/12/2015 17:33

Sorry I'm behind again, I'll catch up...

QueenC · 15/12/2015 17:52

dry my eyes are getting steadily but slowly worse as I get older. Being on the pc at work has really made them ache. I also need glasses for long distance driving hence the sunnies.
Glad you feel better lib. Flat or heeled boots?
blair it's great that you have a diagnosis as work will need to accommodate you. Don't feel you need to rush back after Xmas if you're not ready. You could do a staggered return and do part time slowly increasing your hours. Or even go in late/leave early if rush hour is too tiring.

QueenC · 15/12/2015 17:54

Meant to say blair that as I see patients it's now the policy of the hospital to give staff mmr. Ive only ever been vaccinated against rubella and have had mumps as a child. I've got to drag the kids with me to OH next week to get the second jab. Oh joy.

shopafrolic · 15/12/2015 18:00

Blair poor you - I was in my teens when I had GF but it wiped me out. Thanks for all the dress love - my DM is giving me some cash for Christmas which will cover most of the cost. In terms of how I'll wear it I don't really know - opaques and Pistols or bikers I guess. I don't get my legs out much so am a bit nervous......
QueenC do you wear contacts? If you join Boots' contact lens scheme to have your lenses delivered then you get half price frames on both glasses and sunglasses. Has been well worth it for us.
Lib am heading to Milton keynes tomorrow with DM for some shopping so will keep my eye out for boots.

Karcheer · 15/12/2015 18:34

blair poor you :(

My eyesight is dreadful for reading now.

In other news: I've lost my job!!! The owner has sold the yoga studio and doesn't want any of the staff! What am I going to do now?!?!?

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 15/12/2015 18:37

shop I think you could also wear that dress with either pair of your Sam Edelman boots and some awesome earrings.

The doctor did say that the older you are the harder it is to recover from GF, so I will be milking that if I need to :) QueenC I am hoping that I'll be fine after 5 weeks off (including Christmas), but am a bit worried at the same time about how I'll know if I'm ready or not. I would really hate to go back and realise it was too soon, but I guess that's the only way.

Lib wow, how old was he? No danger of that with me, I probably won't even go out for new years... :(
I saw these nice brown boots, not sure if you wanted heeled though.

Ordered this skirt earlier as it finally went into the sale, hope it's nice.

LinusLovesBretons · 15/12/2015 18:38

Thanks blair and one. I think it's the same issue I had before the summer. It did get better with medication for a while but over the last month I've felt worse again.

And DH also had GF as a teen and was off school for 4 months! Shock I do think adolescents get it worse than adults.

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 15/12/2015 18:40

Oh Karcheer so sorry to hear that, that's rubbish! You'd only been there a few months :( can you approach similar places near you to let them know you're looking?

LinusLovesBretons · 15/12/2015 18:41

X-post blair. So it's worse for adults?

Oh no karcheer! how strange the new owner doesn't want any of the staff. Does he want everyone to apply for their own jobs again?

KittyHello · 15/12/2015 19:05

Am late joining the new thread and am way behind.

Blair glad you finally have a diagnosis after all the tests you've had. Finally you can start your road to recovery Flowers I like the shape of the skirt btw

Linus sorry to hear you not feeling too great, hope the GP will sort you out in the new year.

Karcheer sorry to hear about your job, hope you find another one in the new year, you bought lovely sportswear clothing too.

No fashion news here, been chasing my tail a bit with work/Christmas etc hence my absence here.

On the sales front a bag I've been coveting for a while has gone on sale but I'm playing sales chicken and hoping it gets reduced further please don't sell out will link here if/when I buy it.

Do you think it's worth playing sales chicken? Will be a bit miffed if it sells out.

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 15/12/2015 19:18

Kitty I try to ask myself how I'd feel if it sold out. If it's something I've had my eye on (and been checking the price on) for ages I'd probably go for it and tell myself any discount is better than none.

Linus not sure about the actual illness, but she said the recovery period (when you're tired etc like I am now) can be longer for older people as young children tend to throw it off more easily.

I'm sitting on my hands here, have just bought this scarf (not from the outnet, but that has the best pics, also it was much cheaper). I'm not a scarf wearer but I think it's really me. Merry christmas to myself Xmas Smile

Karcheer · 15/12/2015 19:47

blair there isn't really anywhere like it nearby, I like being able to walk to work so I can come home in breaks to check on my pups.
I'd imagine as with all things you will just know, or can the doc check in some way?
linus apparently no, the old owner sent an email to us all inc teachers and said the teachers should apply for jobs if they wanted teaching jobs.

FedupNagging · 15/12/2015 19:58

That sucks Karcheer; hope something turns up in the new year.

Linus thought you'd been a bit quiet - Flowers and more Flowers for Blair too.

Lovely dress Shop and great AR skirt Blair; fab scarf too.

Kitty I was trying to explain 'sales chicken' to ds3 the other day - he's after a pair of expensive trainers. He gave me one of these looks Hmm - especially as I played it and lost this weekend - was after a dress from Boden, discounted 40% plus I had a voucher. By the time I got round to ordering, it was oos.

Stokey it sounds like chaos in your house but good luck for the party on Saturday.

Karcheer · 15/12/2015 20:11

fedup there's all so the destiny game with shopping... You were destined not to have the oos bits...
