I know it might seem like we've nothing left to say but I'm sure we have :)

I have to tell you: Seville a l'Aube is on the TK Maxx website for half price - lots of other L'Artisan perfumes but that one is very special and I wore nothing else all summer!

SOTD: Cuir de Russie. Like a fuzzy hug with vague undertones of marauding Cossacks from the 19th century.

Hello can I join please? (Waves at Lovelyfriend) I only started getting into perfume this year and have been really enjoying discovering some amazing (and some frankly more horrible) smells!

Those looking for perfume recommendations might enjoy playing with these sites:

Scent Map

and Fragrance Finder The second site seems to be more comprehensive but might give you starting points!

Would be up to swap some samples if anyone fancies that?

LovelyFriend · 25/11/2015 14:37

Hi SS :)

Kazzawazzawo0 · 25/11/2015 14:48

Thanks. I'd rather something I can find on the high street so I can spray it on first, as it's going to be a Christmas gift.

MissBattleaxe · 25/11/2015 15:40

Kazza-on the High Street you can buy Perfume Shop Viva boxes which contain 8 samples and a voucher for a full size bottle, They make good gifts for people who are not sure what they like. They cost about £39.

Kazzawazzawo0 · 25/11/2015 16:52

Thanks I'll look out for those. I've only seen the boxes with 4 small bottles.

Any suggestions of a scent I may like? I could buy a sample on eBay then.

FrustratedFrugal · 25/11/2015 18:01

Xmaspanties, 5 o'clock au gingembre from the Lutens line is worth a try, other suggestions here.

Another day with Mitsouko.

Christmaspanties · 25/11/2015 18:06

Thank you so much frustratedfrugal Flowers

MissBattleaxe · 25/11/2015 18:20

Kazza, if you used to like sweet, you could try lighter versions such as La Vie est Belle Eau Legere- which I find less cloying than the original. Also, how about Chanel Chance? It's light and sweet in a sort of transparent way. The flankers are pretty reliable too.

A bit more budget friendly- try Yardley Jade- green and light and a dead ringer for Chanel Cristalle, or try some of the Marks and Spencer own brand range. They do purse sprays for around a fiver so even if you blind buy a few, you won't break the bank. M & S Butterfly smells like DKNY Fresh IMO. Other people say it smells like Marc Jacobs Daisy.

MissBattleaxe · 25/11/2015 18:20

Xmaspanties- Cabotine by Parfume Gres has ginger lily in it and is usually under a tenner. You can find it on Amazon really easily. I love it.

cressetmama · 26/11/2015 09:17

First to post today! SoTD is Dzing! My decants arrived from Perfumed Court yesterday, and I luffs it. Why is wet neoprene rubber so gorgeous on the skin?

After scrubbing wrists to remove the skunk, I can report that the new Eau Parfumee au The Bleu is a possible rival to the original green tea from the Bvlgari range. Think oolong tea and lavender, but not old lady lavender water. It's light and airy, not much sillage and would make a pleasant office scent - if such things matter to you.

Xmaspanties: the Roger & Gallet Gingembre soap is nice, and there's definitely a scent spray but I haven't tried it. A good chemist or M&S should have a tester to try.

MissBattleaxe · 26/11/2015 10:11

SOTD- Goya Black Rose. Superb rose- almondy, spicy and fabulous. It reminds me a bit of Tauer Phi Rose de Kandahar. ( not quite as good as PHI but bloody good all the same)

getoffthattabletnow · 26/11/2015 14:12

I can recommend Roget and Gallet Gingembre perfume. Its a invigorating lemon Cologne spiked with fresh ginger.I absolutely adore this but the longevity is about 30 minutes.Combined with Jo Malone's Nutmeg and Ginger its gingery Perfection. Also Jo Malone's Dark Amber and Ginger Lily is a warm, wintery Ginger delight.
I'm also very tempted to try the Lutens Five o clock Gingembre after initially being frightened that it was too Gourmand for me.
Sotd is Amyris Femme sprayed lightly as had dentists appointment first thing.

Christmaspanties · 26/11/2015 14:46

Loving all the ginger talk, I need to brush up on my understanding of where I can sample these perfumes.

I'm starting with the Cabotine by Parfume Gres recommendation as it's cheap and I don't actually know what ginger lily smells like. Rather excited!

Tate15 · 26/11/2015 14:55

Today I am wearing Al Rehab Nadine. It is a very pretty scent.

I love fragrance oils they smell way nicer than any shop bought perfume.

Tate15 · 26/11/2015 14:56

This one

MissBattleaxe · 26/11/2015 14:56

I'm thinking of getting a load of Al Rehab oils. My friend let me try some and they were really good. What would you recommend? ( and so cheap too!)

MissBattleaxe · 26/11/2015 14:58

How funny. On Fragrantica one reader says it reminds them of Cabotine- there you are Christmaspanties! Al Rehab is usually about three quid a rollerball on Amazon.

SecondSunrise · 26/11/2015 16:05

Christmas one of my favourite scents ever is "Like This Tilda Swinton" by Etat Libre D'Orange. It starts off with fresh ginger and then becomes a warming cakey maple syrup cake of a scent. More warming ginger than fresh I would say. Serge Lutens Gingembre is quite a hot spicy ginger and felt quite masculine to me.

Zara Cologne by the Zara Shop has similar notes of ginger and bergamot so might be a more equivalent fresh feel. Fragonard Etoile (might be in your Marks and Spencers) also has similar notes plus apple and some white flowers too. Might be easy to test a few of those anyway.

SecondSunrise · 26/11/2015 16:26

Kazza for ones to try in the High Street - maybe Still by J-Lo, Chanel Chance, Lancome Miracle, Michael Kors Very Hollywood, YSL Manifesto L' Eclat, Fan di Fendi Eau Fraiche...have a little try and see what takes your fancy.

Oh and SOTD is Serge Lutens Jeux de Peau. Buttered croissants, coconut, milk, sandalwood gorgeousness.

FrustratedFrugal · 26/11/2015 17:14

In Love Again all day today.

MrsCocoa · 26/11/2015 17:22

Thanks for mentioning the new BvlgariCresset - will look out for it. Having a bit of a thing for lavender at the moment, sparked by the fabulously aromatic Suffolk Lavender By Shay & Blue. (Shame M&S disontinued).

SotD is SW1X (Bex London), random choice from my box of samples. It's a relatively gentle rose oudh, but I'm feeling a bit ouhd'd out right now.

shins · 26/11/2015 17:24

Piguet's Bandit. Feeling formidable!

CointreauVersial · 26/11/2015 17:26

Envy Fruagl - I really must get myself a bottle of that one. I have a tiny (and diminishing) vintage sample.

Christmas - Cabotine is so lovely; it was my everyday fragrance back in the day (when I bouight one fragrance at a time, ha ha). But I wouldn't have it down as particularly gingery.

Sunrise - Jeux de Peau sounds right up my street. I don't know it at all.

CointreauVersial · 26/11/2015 17:27

MrsC, I thought that one was OK, but nothing special.

MrsCocoa · 26/11/2015 17:40

The Shay & Blue Cointreau? I couldn't walk through an M&S beauty hall without wanting to try some (but clearly was in a minority as I think this was the only S&B line they discontinued?!). I like incense.
