I know it might seem like we've nothing left to say but I'm sure we have :)

I have to tell you: Seville a l'Aube is on the TK Maxx website for half price - lots of other L'Artisan perfumes but that one is very special and I wore nothing else all summer!

SOTD: Cuir de Russie. Like a fuzzy hug with vague undertones of marauding Cossacks from the 19th century.

I think they are all sold MrsCoco
I'd love to find one of their Chemistry Sets under the tree (would involve buying and wrapping its myself though):

www.4160tuesdays.com/4160tuesdaysscentshop/prod_4146833-The-Sexiest-Chemistry-Set-on-the-Planet-Ever-IMHO.html

cressetmama · 24/11/2015 12:56

4160 Tuesday's, at least those I tried from a sample selection, all end up smelling quite similar on me. The top notes are great but the base oil seems to come through very strongly after an hour, and I'm not too keen. If anyone wants to try them out, I could let them go?

Still working my way through the Juliette has a Gun set, today is the turn of Gentlewoman, and it is bliss! Neroli to start, then almond and musk; it's a warmer take on a summer-y fresh cologne. Have not ventured back to the website to see what FBs cost: I am too afraid!

MissBattleaxe · 24/11/2015 13:38

Jo Loves also does discovery sets but they are £95. They will be very very good though!

pretend · 24/11/2015 14:14

SOTD Tom Ford Noir, and I've had my first ever compliment since I started getting really into scent :)

cressetmama · 24/11/2015 14:45

The JHAG set is 10 euros, which they give you back on purchase of a full bottle. it's an excellent box of eight vial sprays, and so far they are all good.

FrustratedFrugal · 24/11/2015 15:52

Perfume picks this week: Chanel no 5 Eau Premiere, Vega.

MissBattleaxe · 24/11/2015 18:54

I prefer No 5 Premier to No 5.

MrsCocoa · 24/11/2015 19:40

Wow - that JHAG sample set is good value - that's going on my Xmas list! I do think the Nose diagnostic sets are good value too. My first try produced some gems - tempted to go back and refine.

SotD is...well actually it is Seville a l''Aube. Only thing in my handbag today and I'm enjoying it more in colder weather. I'm appreciating the way the orange blossom is warmed up by the sweet bees wax. May have to look out for a full bottle.

MrsCocoa · 24/11/2015 19:51

Lovely - have you done their workshop? Highly recommended.

ToysDontWorkNoMore · 24/11/2015 20:37

Cresset, I would be happy to relieve you from the Tuesdays set if you can think of something you would like in return. Will try find my list for swaps..

SOTD is Agonist No.10 White Oud (yet another from a Discovery Box). Ew!

Topnote of musk with a touch of marzipan, middle note of musk and a suggestion of rose, basenotes of faint amber and....umm....more musk. Want to hazard a guess at one of my least favourite fragrance notes? Grin

Toys, that's a great list.

Kazzawazzawo0 · 25/11/2015 02:13

Can I ask a question? Could you kind people recommend a scent/perfume/EdT for me? In the past I've liked sweet perfumes like Mont Blanc Legend, Flower bomb, Armani Mania .. But now these are too sweet/heavy for me. I'd like something reasonably light for day time, not sour or flowery, sweetish, but not hideously sweet, and not expensive! I tried SJP but didn't like it at all.

LovelyFriend · 25/11/2015 09:38

Speaking of sweet & heavy I just had a woman stand behind me at the petrol station drenched in Poison.

Talk about 80's flashbacks!

I worked in an office late 80's with a woman who wore Poison and only Poison. She wore enough for the entire office - no street! She wore enough Poison, every single day, for the entire suburb. The woman in the petrol station is her scent sister.

What is it about a scent like Poison? Is it that is it simply so strong? Do people who wear it have an eroded sense of smell? It does tend to be worn by people who smell like not only have they bathed in it, they have washed their clothes in it too! (Of course it is possible people are wearing it much more subtly and I don't notice them.)

I can still smell it now.

My SOTD is irrelevant today - I can only smell Poison. My nostrils are lined with it.

Why do I smell of Poison now? We never touched.

LovelyFriend · 25/11/2015 09:40

Kazza you will probably like the Atelier Cologne scents I linked to upthread. You can buy a lovely pack of samples from them to try out their 24 scents. The bottles are fairly pricey, but the samples re good value.

boldlygoingsomewhere · 25/11/2015 09:48

I also have the JHAG set and my current favourite is Oil Fiction.

Those discovery kits look fantastic- might put one on my Xmas list.

cressetmama · 25/11/2015 10:07

Impressive perfume library catalogue Toys! And clearly exceptional organisation skills too. My hat is doffed to you.

Quick test spray this morning from a Nose Diptiche sample, Oyedo. It has either gone off, or is based on curried skunk. Going in the shower before walking dog as I cannot bear the smell in the room.

cressetmama · 25/11/2015 10:13

Lovely I feel your pain. Loathe Poison, and Opium too; in fact most of those 80s sillage monsters. I liked Dune (and still do because my grandma also liked it) but stopped wearing it when a man sitting across the aisle from me on a train complimented it. Blush Nice to be complimented but by a stranger, on a train; have always hoped he had a particularly sensitive schnozz.

RonaldMcDonald · 25/11/2015 10:19

Can I ask for some help?

My mum wears Cinnabar. She swears that it no longer smells the way that it used to...
Has she gone mad?
Should I try to search and find some old Cinnabar and will its scent have preserved well enough to make the effort worthwhile?

Thanks you wonderful, knowledgeable lot

ToysDontWorkNoMore · 25/11/2015 10:30

Ronald: Your mum is probably right. They will have changed the formula, like they have done and do with all perfumes (ingredients get banned or too expensive), so it will not be the same as in the 80s. You could take a chance on vintage bottles on ebay, but they can be pricey and there is a possibility the contents might not be as you expect, as the perfume might have "turned" (gone off) or be a fake.

If I were you, I would get DM to accompany you on a shopping trip, or a few and sniff lits of fragrances to see which ones she likes. Cinnabar is a spicy oriental, so look for similar ones. The fragrantica website can be very helpful.

getoffthattabletnow · 25/11/2015 10:32

Curried Skunk Grin conjures up a real vision - love it! ContreauVersial I would probably love that perfume. Most musk notes are adorable on me.
Sotd is Byredo's La Tulipe.Only because I was in a rush and grabbed the first sample arround at 7am.Its got some staying power!I can still distinctly smell a lush sweet very scented bouquet of early spring bulbs. Its nice to be enjoying the Scents of Spring working in my cold conservatory in a heavy rainstorm.
I'm debating whether to buy a bottle of Aedes de Venustas from Alla Violetta with 10% off.Its considerably cheaper than buying in the UK but still a lot of money.I'm trying to talk myself out of it but my decants nearly finished and its difficult to obtain.

Christmaspanties · 25/11/2015 11:01

Hello this is a nice thread. I've been wanting to branch out from my usual only perfume - Origins Ginger. Do love it and find it works nicely as a day perfume but it fades quickly and I'd like to be a little more dating on a night out. Anyone familiar with Ginger that can point me in the right direction?

You all seem so much less scary that the perfume ladies in debenhams.

flightywoman · 25/11/2015 12:32

Last night I reviewed the samples lurking in the bathroom. And I decided to wear the ones I like, do today it's Pierre Cardin Le Baiser Du Dragon. It's woody, slightly spicy and has a patchouli note which I quite like.

I'm rather enjoying it.

I've got some Sunflowers, a sample of Flowers by Kenzo, Chanel's Coco (one from a previous life) and quite a few Czech and Speake samples of No 88, Mimosa & Neroli.

This should keep me going a while...
