"One is never over-dressed or underdressed with a Little Black Dress."
— Karl Lagerfeld

Its that time of year again when our thoughts turn to winter woollies, Christmas jumpers and party dresses. Come and join our musings and purchasing, high end and high street, we love them all.

Leather or black skinnies. Grey tee. Red lipstick. Black blazer. Shoe boots, caged sandals or red heels. Red clutch. Pretty much every time.

Drywhitethanks · 18/10/2015 22:44

Great outfit though Shop. Pink boots from now on Smile

AmberNectarine · 19/10/2015 07:22

I wear all sorts of things when I go out depending on my mood and who I'm with. DH always likes me to wear 'something sexy' so it's usually bodycon dress or LLs with him. If I'm out with friends I try and wear something more interesting!

MarshaBrady · 19/10/2015 08:45

I haven't worn my Rossis in ages - if it's friends or Dh I don't bother and choose Rag&Bone boots. I should really as they are lovely.

Vogue question: is there something in your wardrobe that is pretty / lovely / you adore that you should wear more?

Stokey · 19/10/2015 10:49

Morning all. Commiserations on the rugby, I was supporting the Irish ( I had an Irish Grandma & Dad's family are in the north) and really thought they would go the whole way. But even sadder for the Scots, they were amazing. Ah well, we can all go back to ignoring sport again now.

Good question Marsha. I've got 2 DvF wrap dresses I barely wear any more as i'm not working. And my nights out tend to be pretty casual. A few pretty pairs of shoes too that are just not tube friendly so I rarely wear.

I also own no going out tops. I get too cold for strappy tops.

Longislandicetee · 19/10/2015 11:06

Morning, I thought I was the only who didn't have many going out tops!Shock I think my issue is more that I own a few nice tops but they aren't warm enough for me, and, I don't necessarily have the right trousers to go with them. I think if I was to sort out the trouser issue that would be a big start. This would involve giving away all the experiments I have tried

Actually speaking of which, I gave away my j crew merino wool Tippi sweater last week. Saw the recipient wearing it this week and it looked perfect on her. My immediate thought was "yes! That's the way it's supposed to look!" Pity I didn't work that out before I bought it!

Wearing one of my Me & Em dresses today. They're 2 years old and I check the website regularly, nothing has grabbed my attention since.Have lovely days everyone.Smile

shopafrolic · 19/10/2015 11:14

I wear most things in my wardrobe now. Would love to wear my dresses more though - the Joseph and the red HL. My birthday is soon so perhaps I'll get the chance. Sat in my local Carluccios having run a few errands - waiting for a friend to join me for brunch. Am hungry and when's not due to arrive for another half an hour!

shopafrolic · 19/10/2015 11:15

She's not when's!?

QueenCardi · 19/10/2015 12:07

Morning. I love having going out clothes and have a few winter tops-black silky poly, navy with sheer sleeves (but getting bored of it as have worn it loads) and black lace. These get worn with either jeans or black cigarette trousers. On feet it'll be navy or grey boots, block heeled dolly shoes, navy velvet shoes or silver sparkly. I'Ve also got a couple of black dresses and a denim dress. Handbag is libs dvf or a silver hobbs one. Much as I lve clutches I find them too annoying and impractical.

marsha I'd love to wear the VW dress more often. Sadly dh has been invited to a black tie do but I'm already busy. I also utterly adore my stiletto dolly shoes that I bought for dd christening. Trouble is they're 10cm heel and so I hardly ever wear them as I totter about in them.

BerniceBobsHerHairAgain · 19/10/2015 14:35

Marsha I was thinking about your question - since culling a lot of my wardrobe I wear most of it. I have a few clutches I don't get to use but the main thing is probably autumn jackets / coats - I love jackets / light coats and have a few but I just find the weather seems to require me to be practical and wear waterproofs or down coats. Very boring answer Smile

I don't really have any going out tops either - I think Hopefully wrote on another thread that she has nothing she saves for 'going out' but she has some combinations she only wears for going out, I guess I am the same.

lib when you mentioned sparkly clutch, my first thought was the AH valorie clutch - it's so pretty and would be a lovely thing to have for nights' out. Is that the kind of thing you were thinking?

Shop I would imagine a silk shirt being a good addition to your going out wardrobe.

Finery have a 20% discount with paypal20. I have ordered a few things to try:

Pointy trainers

Berry coloured trousers

Emerald skirt

Lib I could see you in the same skirt but this colour though think you may have something similar already?

QueenCardi · 19/10/2015 14:51

Love that skirt bernice. It's the sort of thing I wish I could wear.

I saw what hopefully had written too. I like to compartmentalise my wardrobe maybe too much so I like the idea of having different clothes to go out in. lib ive been pondering your going out dilemma and I wonder if I can see you in heels/jacket/jeans combo. I think I imagine you more in a skirt/dress nowadays. My going out look is just a more 'polished'/grown up version of my day wear.

Finally got round to having a shower after circuits slovenly and am wearing new gap skinny jeans (absolutely adore these resolution ones, so much better than the normal ones), next grey blouse and cerise cardi. I'd got lazy and had started living in a jumper or sweatshirt but I'm so much happier in blouse/cardi combo.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 19/10/2015 15:56

hello all,

swamped with studenty stuff and feeling very frazzled and low but it will pass as it always does. OOTD is black opaques, black suede ankle boots, mid blue button thru denim mini skirt and fuchsia pink 3/4 sleeve boat neck knit. It's a very 90's look in it's own way!

AmberNectarine · 19/10/2015 17:41

I just CBA today so am wearing a grey sweatshirt from TS, old ASOS boyfriend jeans and my leopard print adidas trainers. Back at work tomorrow so will have to make an effort!

shopafrolic · 19/10/2015 18:21

Bernice my HoC lady told me not to bother with silk shirts - too soft for me apparently. To be fair, whenever I wore my cream one I always 'toughened it up' by wearing it done up with a statement necklace showing out from under the collar.....

libertydoddle · 19/10/2015 19:35

Oh great buys Bernice. I have been debating that red skirt for ages - I have a H&M version but it's much brighter. Dry pm'd me about an AH glitter clutch on ebay so obviously more than one person thinks that would be a good bag choice for me Smile. TBH I was just thinking of Accessorise for a bag Blush. I don't want to spend much on a going out bag as on current social life I'll use it about twice a year.

I returned the Alex Munroe dragonfly moth necklace to JL today and bought a this Skagen Rose Gold watch. Really love it although slightly worried that it might look a bit odd with yellow gold jewellery.

QueenC I think you are right that skirts/dresses are a better going out choice for me. Again I was thinking jeans as they are more versatile for everyday wear and easier on cold nights queen of practicality here

VivaVegas · 19/10/2015 19:49

I do tend to keep some things for going out. A few LBDs and coated skinnies and then a few tops that would be too dressy for work.
Following on from this what do you wear on your legs with a LBD at this time of year, opaques are fine with one of my dresses as it's more edgy than classic and I wear it with high shoe boots but I have a Me&Em one (cowl necked rouched) and I'm not sure what to wear it with.
Zoe Ball had some lovely silver sparkly ankle strapped shoes on Strictly It Takes Two tonight!

Stokey · 19/10/2015 20:12

Love those Finery links Bernice, I'll be interested to know what the berry trousers are like. I keep almost ordering from their website but am frustrated by the leather berry skirt that is still pictured with lots of their tops but no longer available.

I also tried the tunic version of the &OS mountain dress you linked. The pattern was great but the "tunic" more of a top than a dress so wasn't sure how much I'd wear it.

Drywhitethanks · 19/10/2015 20:50

Viva I kniw what you mean.depending on the dress I'd do opaques, but they look a bit day time for me, or a bit of St Tropez on legs and a sprint from the car Grin

Liberty I never feel dressed up enough in jjeans for going out, and a bit self conscious too.

Ooooh I love a MNV question.......Marsha I have a "vintage" lace and beaded blck SS top with Neru collar and hook fastening down the front. I have to wear it over a strapless satin bodice not a BasqueShock which is so pretty. Bought 17yrs ago. Haven't worn it for years but can't get rid, so beautiful.

KittyHello · 19/10/2015 21:08

Lib never mind a sparkly clutch how about these

sparkly boots! need to click on the black glitter ones at the end. I quite like them and they'd certainly brighten up a plain outfit. I'm jumping on Shop's bandwagon of funky boots.

I too am sadly lacking in going out tops as well. Would love to find the perfect top to go with black trousers. Not too sparkly but not to ordinary either.

Bernice great buys, I love the green skirt, great colour.

In answer to Marsha's question, again I wear most things due to a massive clearcut but I couldn't get rid of a Zara dress. I'd seen it on a Z list sleb Blush and thought it looked good, I really like the colours but the neck is cut very tight and when I sit down in it, it strangles me Hmm

VivaVegas · 19/10/2015 21:59

'Kitty' quite like those boots.
Not so sure about these glitter wellies!

libertydoddle · 19/10/2015 23:46

Oh those wellies! Not good Smile Ankle boots are v nice. A friend of mine had a pair like that from Wallis last year and looked fab in them with black skinnies.

Vegas that is exactly my issue with dresses for evening out wear! Opaques often look too heavy or casual but it's way too cold for nude tights. St Tropaz and a sprint sounds like a solution dry Grin

Marsha I don't wear my black biker enough. Not much else goes unworn. I am quite ruthless about getting rid of things I don't wear.

libertydoddle · 20/10/2015 07:55

So I am last to bed and first up!

Morning all. There is the most gorgeous orange sun peeking out from the clouds....

OOTD black petty boots, black opaques, black Boden knee length pleated skirt, Gap fine merino tobacco sweater tucked in. Leopard print scarf, brick red peacoat.

AmberNectarine · 20/10/2015 08:46

I don't wear my beautiful shoe collection enough. Must make more effort - seem to wear my chanel courts every day at work just because they are so comfy.

OOTD is black twist front dress (HOF outlet bargain), opaques, aforementioned chanel courts, Chanel bag, Tiffany bone cuff and monica vinader labradorite ring and earrings (this is the most jewellery I've worn in months - novice will be proud), with plum whistles teddy coat and a turquoise and purple snake print scarf because I felt too put together!

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 20/10/2015 09:13

ugh, rough morning as I fell and couldn't get back up and it took ages to alert Dsis to help me. I'm up and recovering now though.

OOTD is burgundy skinnies, black suede ankle boots, a grey mens beatles tee that i cut up to suit me so now it's sleeveless and i cut the crew neck ribbed part off so it's more open and a black ribbed boyfriend cardigan. Comfy and more importantly, warm enough for today!

your outfit sounds fab Amber

QueenCardi · 20/10/2015 10:26

I love opagues and the only dress I would wear bare legs with is the VW.
kitty they're the boots I adore (the black suede though) and got excited when I saw that theyre reduced to £83. Sadly, that's only the grey ones.

Wraring my pine green cardi for the first time this winter. Id forgotten how much I love it.
Just had my appt through for my scan and typically it's next week. Looks like ill be dragging 3 kids to watch me have an ultrasound probe stuck up me Hmm.
