"One is never over-dressed or underdressed with a Little Black Dress."
— Karl Lagerfeld

Its that time of year again when our thoughts turn to winter woollies, Christmas jumpers and party dresses. Come and join our musings and purchasing, high end and high street, we love them all.

Sounds fab Marsha good luck with shopping.

Hello Reebear, Very jealous at the thought of sunny southern Italy.

Hope the tests results go well Shop and who doesn't need pink suede boots in their life?

Outfit sounds good Ujj, I wore my H&M pleather skinnies yesterday with the green plaid shirt.

I had a bit of a TK Maxx shop and picked up this Jaeger longline cardigan. It's not the chunky look I was after but was very cheap, is wool-cashmere mix and looks great on. I also got a grey Boden jumper and a navy cable-knit poncho from some random brand. I'm not sure about the poncho, but dh gave it the thumbs up, and I think it could work well on my bike.

Stokey · 15/10/2015 15:56

Well done to your eldest Ujj, I well up at the smallest child-related thing these days, am a wreck at school plays!

shopafrolic · 15/10/2015 16:14

Ujjayi that's lovely about your DS. What a fabulous achievement. Love the dresses by Pinterest thing too! Agree that if I put in the effort with clothes, hair and make up I feel better and am more likely to go out. Struggling to actually do it at the moment tho!
Stokey exactly! Who doesn't? I can only imagine DH's face when they arrive all Hmm Not exactly buying for the life I live but they are fabulous.... Just need them to arrive now. Guess it'll be next week.

Ujjayi · 15/10/2015 16:32

Stokey & Shop thank you for your congrats. He takes his GCSEs next summer so I am hoping he can keep it up as sixth forms are so ridiculously competitive here - like when did that happen? In my day, you turned up to your school and enrolled. There was no application process.

Stokey I almost bought the same Jaeger cardigan too. It feels beautifully soft.

Shop wrt boots, I would go for suede if you think they are going to be for smarter lunches and evening. I always think leather ankle boots or shoes can look a bit harsh for evening especially. And honestly, if I only bought clothes for the life I have then my wardrobe would be extremely tedious. I do keep that in mind but I also try to dress in things that make me happy too which is why I applaud your pink boot purchase!

libertydoddle · 15/10/2015 16:49

Well done to your DS Ujjayi. Great news.

Lovely cardigan Stokey. I bought this Theory cashmere one in TK Maxx at the weekend - can't find it anywhere online so resorted to taking my own pic!

Lovely Chloe buys Lara. Hope you like them when they arrive.

Marsha Paris sounds fab. Looking forward to a shopping update.

Agree with all the comments about making an effort when you are at home - I am wfh today and just wearing a Cos jumper and navy trackpants, didn't have a shower and as a result I haven't left the house all day even though I could really do with some fresh air.

Shop those pink boots are really you IMO. You need to have a few frivolous items in your wardrobe for the evenings when you want to look a bit different / make a statement.

Welcome reebear.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 15/10/2015 17:18

very well done to your DS ujjayi he must be so proud of himself too Smile

shop the pink boots are SO you and lib is right, you do need something a bit different for evenings out where you get to really dress up/look different

I feel rotten again, just a bit of a bug I think so nothing to bother the doctor with at this point. Just plenty of warm drinks, paracetamol and throat lozenges I think

QueenCardi · 15/10/2015 17:42

Brilliant ujj, that's really good about ds.
I'm kind of missing my old life tbh. I had 2 full days with dd and we had a great social life of lunch/soft play etc so on those days I really made an effort. Because now I tend to do exercise most mornings there's no need for me go out for fresh air later. This week ive just been sitting at the computer doing interview preparation so have had no reason to dress up. I think I need this job but othetwise I will go back to my volunteering which will keep me out of mischief!

KittyHello · 15/10/2015 19:25

Ujj a massive well done to your ds.

QueenC I know what you mean about cba dressing up, I'm trying to take a leaf out of Victoria Beckham's non existent book, she once said the airport is her runway, the school run is my runway Grin i.e I don't bother saving my nice clothes for best I'll wear them on the SR, the only thing is I don't have anything different to wear at the weekends but I do have separate going out clothes that I don't wear on the SR. I work p/t which is a good excuse for buying some work clothes and to do something for myself.

Phew that was longer than intended, glad you're managing some down time in Paris Marsha

Welcome Reebear am jealous of your location at the moment.

Drywhitethanks · 15/10/2015 19:40

QueenC but the upside is that you have a spupervtoned bod and arse that is pert and not drooping towards your knees Grin always a silver lining

Ujj well done to your DS/DD there's so much pressure on children to achieve and be brilliant at everything today, sometimes think we've lost a sense of proportion.

Shop I'd go for suede for smarter, for me leather is more daywear/work.

Ree welcome. S Italy, wow. Love Italian chic.

So, got home from work, having delegated food, straight into bath and then painted nails it's Friday tomorrow which means I can't wash up or do anything other than sip my wine Grin RESULT!!!!

Drywhitethanks · 15/10/2015 19:42

Oh, And after seeing Claudia's interview on Watchdog, I've ordered some artificial tea lights for my pumpkins, couldn't live with myself if a child went up in flames by a candle on my doorstep.

shopafrolic · 15/10/2015 20:04

Good call Dry our door is straight onto the very thin pavement so pumpkins don't work here but would definitely do the same.....
You know the thing where they say you have to choose bum or face? I seem to have chosen face and now have a flat mum bum. What do I need to do? Squats or something? I know nothing......
Ujj suede it will be. You're right. The pink arrive on Monday so will check size and then order.
Some fab Markus Lupfer sweatshirts on the Outnet - one day I will own one. I miss my sparkly cat face sweatshirt. None of them are in my size unfortunately otherwise I might have asked DH to get me one for Christmas.
QueenC I seem to remember you feeling a little lost like this around the same time last year. Perhaps it will pass. Not long till your interview.....

Drywhitethanks · 15/10/2015 20:19

Sleep is the exercise expert. Squats, pref with weights, are great for bottom toning.

Ujjayi · 15/10/2015 21:30

Thank you for all your support for DS's achievements today. We went to view the first of our choice of sixth forms tonight. He loved it. Trying to teach him to be able to make eye contact with people he doesn't know (he's high functioning autistic) but he did pretty well. I try not to explain his behaviours to people but I worry that others think him rude. Obviously they would need to know once we apply formally.

QueenC - I really get where you are coming from. I think it is really easy to feel rather aimless. Hope you are able to find a focus soon. Could you arrange to meet with the mums you used to socialise with before DD started school? I've done that even if their little ones were still pre-school age.

Dry - sunday evening is my manicure night: means DH is forced to co-ordinate school prep, lunch prep & baths. Result.

One - feel better soon Flowers

Shop - agree squats are great. Also dead lifts. Take a look at the Tone It Up website. Loads of workouts broken down into target areas: arms, abs, booty (!), total body. They are really great & made a huge difference to my body.

Sorry - epic post Blush

justasecond · 15/10/2015 21:54

Hi everyone have caught up on all the lovely links and hello to reebear!
just ordered these trousers www.uniqlo.com/uk/store/goods/166056 am hoping they will fill a wardrobe hole of casual non jean trousers that I have been trying to fill for over a year.
well done to your ds ujjayi that is a great achievment
Hope you are having a good trip Marsha and managed to get some shopping in.
Good luck with your interview queenc will keep fingers crossed for you. I have a part time job in a very informal office, I mean I could go in trackie bottoms and no one would say anything but then thats not me and my father is the boss so I make an effort to be smart i.e skinny jeans, smart coat no trainers.
Love both those chloe buys lara
Hope you are feeling better shop those pink boots are gorgeous and bound to cheer you up. They look amazing in black suede too. I love them but sadly no occasion, although I saw dmbl40 instagram this skirt from BR Looked better in her pic and thought it might look nice with opaques and those boots in black suede. If I do anything for my big 4-0 in a couple of months could be a potential outfit?

QueenCardi · 15/10/2015 23:24

justa do tell us more about your big 4-0 plans (if any). It really is a great time to celebrate (can you tell, I loved mine!).
shop interesting you say that about this time last year as I can't remember but you're probably right. I think ive coped well ( for me) as a sahm with a preschooler but I'm not sure I can do it now. Which is a shame as they seem to need you more than ever as they get older Confused

shopafrolic · 16/10/2015 08:27

I hear you QUeenC DS has just moved to full school days, at the moment I have enough on my place with house stuff and elderly parents to keep me busy but I can't see it lasting forever......what to do?

libertydoddle · 16/10/2015 08:36

That skirt with shop's boots would be great justa.

A friend of mine in same position as you QueenC has thrown herself into the parents association.

Back in the Cos dress and R&B boots today. Was too chilly for trench coat (Flowers for Lara) so had to get out the peacoat (Flowers shop). Have earrings and necklace today so blingy's mum can relax and know that all is well with the world Grin

And best of all it's Friday Wink

QueenCardi · 16/10/2015 09:28

lib I've already thrown myself into the pta and am secretary!
shop tricky isn't it. If I don't get the job I'll be throwing myself into house stuff as still loads of decorating needs to be done. By time we get round to finishing the house it'll be time to start again on the rooms that were done years ago!
About to meet a friend for coffee. All I can taste is last nights indian so hoping I don't breathe curry fumes on her Grin.
dry my bum has definitely toned up but unfortunately as its large anyway it seems to have got bigger Hmm

shopafrolic · 16/10/2015 09:40

Squeeeeeee! My boots are arriving today. Shame it's peeing down with rain and I'm not going out weekend. Perhaps I'll wear them while I watch Strictly Grin
Took Ujjayi's words of wisdom on board and today have full make up, clean hair and painted nails. Feel as though all is well with the world (ignores health issues temporarily).

shopafrolic · 16/10/2015 09:41

Lib glad the peacoat is getting use - I need a replacement in a winter colour....

shopafrolic · 16/10/2015 09:46

Ujjayi I meant to say - I was reading some reviews of THE BOOTS online, and everyone is saying they come up wide. What shoe size are you? Could always meet you somewhere for a try on.......

libertydoddle · 16/10/2015 09:46

Yay for feeling well and new boots shop.

QueenC you are teeny! Take a photo of your bum next to mine at next MU and that will give you a sense of perspective!

QueenCardi · 16/10/2015 12:54

I may be fairly small lib but i promise you that I have a sticky out bum. It's not too noticeable in jeans but it's one of the reasons that I could never wear a clingy dress!
Wearing pink boots for strictly sounds like a fab idea shop. I missed it last week but must watch this week.

QueenCardi · 16/10/2015 12:55

Just come across this shop through WIT and looks like some of you may like it.

libertydoddle · 16/10/2015 18:17

Page 2!!! Come on people. I am on the train home and was looking forward to catching up on the chat and there is none Shock

On train I am lusting after one woman's green faux fur coat and another's fabulous cat face flats!
