New thread...

A new keyboard has been bought after much shouting. Stropps, that book is often recommended on MN and brings with it a tang of fat failure for me - I was at school with its author and she was in the year below me. I did like her - she is one of the ones I remember. But still. How many copies of that damn book has she sold??!!!?? And how many times has it been recommended to me??!!?? Gah.

CointreauVersial · 08/09/2015 23:30

Hey, leave Belgium alone. I love Belgium!

I have a copy of that book - in fact, it was BTM (I think) who recommended it to me.

Definitely up for Backside.

bigTillyMint · 09/09/2015 06:59

I have that book too, along with a few others about difficult teensGrin It is the teen version of how I work with my little lovelies. but I seem to find it so difficult to apply at homeBlush I think I should maybe dig it out again - you can never have too much advice! Shame it isn't you making ?????? on it Molly!

Well unless anyone has a better idea, let's stick with Bankside for 6.30. There are some bars along the road that do cocktails and other beverages, so those of us who fancy it can meet in one earlier? Shall we pick one out?

Stropps, what a shame you now have a "proper medical problem" to deal with too, but at least it's not a figment of her imagination. And fingers are still tightly crossed.

CV, I read your post as definitely up for up the backsideGrin and it's Wednesday very early morning, not Friday night!

MrsSchadenfreude · 09/09/2015 07:42

Up the Backside? Shock Are we going up the Oxo Tower then? Grin Agree, too early for this.

There must be places around there that do 2-4-1 cocktails early evening. Or late evening... So are we booked in Caminos then? Excellent. Thank you BTM.

I am a big fan of Belgium, having spent nearly five (5, v) happy years there, living near Leuven. For anyone who visits Belgium, I can strongly recommend Leuven, it is tiny, compact and stunning, with an exquisite little Grand'Place and lots of interesting shops.

Stropps - sorry to hear about DD's headaches, but hopefully this is something that the doctors can deal with.

bigTillyMint · 09/09/2015 07:50

Yes booked in at Caminos ALONG the BaNksideGrin I'm sure you can sniff us out a 241 deal MrsSWink

bigTillyMint · 09/09/2015 07:50

Actually, I think it's in Southwark Street!

Lalsy · 09/09/2015 07:59

I had a lovely little trip to Belgium with dd earlier this year to the battlefields.

Rosebag · 09/09/2015 08:57

I am very fond of Belgium given half my family come from there....but I'm not sure I'd pass up on a crepey meet up for it!! Is it 6.30 for the table or the pre dinner drinks?

strops really sorry about DDs migraine problem. That's hard going. I am a believer in real pills for this sort of thing, I must say, but DS1 had them and I was filling him full of as much analgesia as I could. Amazingly an acupuncturist stopped the attacks dead. He never had another one. Dunno...she is a bit of a witch doctor....

I am seething with frustration over the director colleague who was supposed to be casting and directing a reading of my play on 20th of this month. She's gone off the feckin radar...was very slippery about it all at conference this weekend. And having set up a call with me for 8am this morning about it all, she's not answering. Angry Angry Angry. I've left her a bit of a terse voice mail.

Anyway, one good thing has happened. Got a call from our theatre yesterday asking whether DS2 would sub for the musical director on keyboards in the pit at the Xmas Show. He was a bit reluctant and nervous about it but is now totally in to the idea. I said, look on the bright side. You won't have to wear a silly costume and makeup
DD on the other hand has been cast as a goose ( 10 geese a laying) Grin
Proud Mummy....and I'm am pleased he's got a little bit of encouragement after his music disappointment over his AS level.

motherinferior · 09/09/2015 09:45

Oh Rose. How annoying for you but great for DS2.

Many thanks all. Wish I could type faster on this!

bigTillyMint · 09/09/2015 09:59

6.30 for the table, Rose. I think a few of us can meet from 4ish for pre-drinks if you can join us? Venue TBC!
Well done your DS2 - how fab!Smile

My lovely French amie has sorted the chalet deposit for me, phew!

I am finding it hard to get down to work and have spent the last hour and a half chatting...

Cremo · 09/09/2015 10:24

Oh BTM thank you very much for sorting out a venue for the MU on 26th.
I am really looking forward to seeing everyone. Currently on ferry back to Ire. Feeling somewhat ropey.
Rose , sorry about being let down by this person. What on earth is with her ?
I hate it when people are evasive for no apparent reason. Very well done to ds and his chance to showcase talents! Wow!
Can't wait to see my pussy cats Grin

Btw Philomena c is a sketch on Charlie Brookers Screen Wipe. Sorry if the joke passed everyone by. I meant I was getting philosophical in my old age.
Smile

herbaceous · 09/09/2015 10:28

I know who you meant, cremo. She's great. You may be impressed, or not, to know that we're good friends with one Barry Shitpeas from the same show!

The job search continues. Depressing. Not quite sure spunking ??9K on this PGCE was worth it.

bigTillyMint · 09/09/2015 10:36

Herbs, keep going - something will come good in the end. Is there any mileage in finding somewhere to do something voluntary for work experience while you look?

herbaceous · 09/09/2015 10:43

Thanks BTM. I'm looking into doing family learning, or stuff in schools, to get some experience.

I'm with a supply agency, which seems to think they could just bung me into any school at the drop of a hat, which would of course also provide me with experience. But it's too scary!

Cremo · 09/09/2015 10:50

I am impressed Herbs- lol! Grin.

There's a bar called The Refinery near Camino Bankside which does cocktails not 241 tho' Hmm

Rosebag · 09/09/2015 14:12

May I say that I have just had a lovely morning, taking tea/coffee with the delightful Monty, who has restored me with flowers and caring, supportive words, and I unreservedly commend her to the house. Grin Brew

Herbs Feel the fear and do it anyway. I still go in to every work opportunity (thin as they are on the ground) knowing thinking I can't do it??too scary etc. You will be surprised at how well you cope.

Silly director colleague has texted me gushing with contrition about missing my calls??she wants to talk this afternoon so I suppose I'll have to try her again. I am seeing ConS tonight, having texted him in abject frustration??I have warned him I might cry.

On a style and beauty note??Autumn fashions are beckoning. I rather fancy this skirt although I hate the way it's been styled. Thinking with a maroon or black roll neck and knee boots. Also poncho

Rosebag · 09/09/2015 14:12

whats going on with the question marks...

bigTillyMint · 09/09/2015 14:50

Rose, I see the Bodenesque "flippy" is now being used by Jigsaw! Pretty skirt, and the top is almost identical to something I knitted for a friend!

Rosebag · 09/09/2015 16:12

Knitted a top like that???I'm impressed!!!!!

Cremo · 09/09/2015 18:20

I am home and piling washing and opening mail etc. Dullsville. Sad
But how strange to arrive home on a sunny warm day Shock

Back to mil's moonlight flit from fil tomorrow, Dh has resolutely declined to be involved because mil has not told fil that she has lined up a removals van for 10am and is actually going. She's got guts , I'll give her that, but it will take Fil 50 seconds before he's on the phone to me asking wtf is going on and demanding to know where she is. My sil is furious with her mother for not thinking about how the burden of fil will now fall to us.

Not thinking about work, JUST NOT.
Bake off tonight to divert attention. Dh gone for chippies!

Rose how lovely that you and Monty had a nice mini MU .

bigTillyMint · 09/09/2015 19:24

Well you know the chalet saga? My French friend very kindly paid the lady. Now the lady has rung to say the money has arrived, 9 days after I posted it! Ah well, less to pay when we get thereGrin

BeachysFlipFlops · 09/09/2015 20:07

So, how do you fan your plums, Alvin?

Cremo · 09/09/2015 20:27

Mel is right cheeky tonight! Poor Chipmunkwith his timing issues .
We like the dishy surgeon's plums Blush

hattymattie · 09/09/2015 20:55

God Crem - it's all going to kick off round your place - you need to go on holiday for a week and come back when the worst is over.

Have lost interest a little in GBBO as not so excited by vol au vents as beautiful cakes.

Rose - great news about DS - bet he has to wear a Santa hat though. Hope you managed to make telephone contact regarding your play.

English school restarted today - our group is 8 sassy girls and one boy poor kid.

Back to Alvin - general consensus here is that he's going this week.

bigTillyMint · 09/09/2015 21:24

Beachy, how did I miss that?Grin

Oh I love vol-au-vents. I wonder if you can still get frozen empty ones - the DC would love them! DS hates Sue Perkins, but I quite like her!

Hatty, he should be in heaven - the boy in the group of 8 girls!
