New thread...

Oh dear, I've got just over 3 years till DH has his...

MollyLair · 05/09/2015 21:54

Buy a scarf and be Isadora Duncan. Without the death bit, obvs.

MrsSchadenfreude · 05/09/2015 21:57

Mwahahahahaha. Grin I was indeed witness to the "You've bought WHAT?" phone call, and said straight away "I bet it's red!" GrinGrin We then had a nice discussion about the sort of bumper sticker it might have...

DD2, having been perfectly pleasant all day, turned into the sulky monster from hell on the bus home. I got my revenge though. I started choking at dinner (DH: For fuck's sake don't put so much in your mouth), grabbed her water (DD2: It's my water, get your own!) took a huge swig and promptly threw up (very tidily) into the glass, whereupon I tried to hand it back to her, and she screamed. Grin The cat was the only person who was worried about me, as he sat next to me, patting my leg frantically.

I bought a lovely velvet cushion today. DH hates cushions, nearly as much as he hates fur throws. I've got one of those too.

BTM, I will text you re dates for Sinatra.

You can book Zedel on line - I would do it, but already have a booking for Zedel and am worried that they will think it is a duplicate and cancel one of the bookings. (This has happened to me before, not at Zedel, though, to be fair, but I have been a bit nervous of online bookings ever since.)

MI !!
I think I'd be a Tad annoyed although it would be a motor bike here. Why? I mean, why? You live in London FGS!

Blackduck · 05/09/2015 22:35

I stood in a pub garden in flip flops and sang (twice) - send off for a lovely landlady :( lots of beer and music and the village and :( :(

Still :-0 by sports car...

Rudy - tube to Piccadilly Circus, come out, look for the big Boots, and walk up Glasshouse Street (I think) to the left, and you'll see it.

BD - presumably she has gone to pull pints in the sky? Sad

I am freezing.

BeachysFlipFlops · 05/09/2015 23:01

Ha ha, I managed to get away with a trials bike, albeit with red and black nylon leggings!!

CointreauVersial · 06/09/2015 00:07

OMG, MI - I think I would have hit the roof. Actually, DH had a sports car midlife crisis at 40, but the purchase was only made after careful consultation with his DW (you know, the one who shares the household expenditure). And it was grey, and had room for the DCs in the back seat, and we don't live in London.....

GGG - I'm laughing at your DS1. You need to do some Strops-style disengaging - if he turns up at Oxford with nothing but socks, pants and scissors, so be it. Grin

Well, DS came back from his DofE Expedition, and has apparently failed. What a muppet. Getting lost twice, popping into a friend's house "for a snack", then getting caught crossing a main road just as a teacher and assessor drove past does not cover one with glory. We'll find out on Monday what the implications are, but I'm pretty cross with him. He spent all evening moaning that his legs were aching, and picking bits of skin off his feet and leaving them on the coffee table (urgh).

I'm doing the first football run of the season tomorrow morning because DH is off to a conference early doors. Very early doors - his flight leaves Heathrow at 6am tomorrow, so I calculate he'll be getting up in about three hour's time, poor sod.

bigTillyMint · 06/09/2015 07:20

Actually, a sports car is a much better idea than a Chelsea tractor in London. I would be amazed and secretly a bit thrilled if DH did anything as rash as buy a red sports car - he doesn't do anything big like that on impulse! He definitely would never, ever buy a motorbike.

But I can see how you are less than impressed, MI.

CV, I am Grin at your DS failing his DoEBlush I didn't know that even happened! Just as well neither of mine have shown the remotest interest in doing it.
And is he only just back at footy? My DS's team don't break at all for the summer, though it was only friendlies over the hols. He has a local one today (most are at least 40mins away) and there's no rain forecast, so I'm going to watch!

motherinferior · 06/09/2015 08:31

This is why we have separate finances....

Blackduck · 06/09/2015 08:52

CV that is quite funny (sorry :) )

Retirement, not dead, but the pub is heart of the village - everything happens there (book club, gardening club blah blah..) and there are serious concerns about the incoming.....

MI - likewise - but dp still wouldn't make that kind of purchase without taking to me first.....

Beachy love the FB pics - she looks happy!

GGG - agree - leave him to it!

motherinferior · 06/09/2015 09:24

He mentioned it. And his argument is allegedly that he spends all his money otherwise on boring house-related stuff. I do rather envy his carefree attitude (I wrote a feature once about the balance between the Sensible One and the Carefree One in relationships)....

motherinferior · 06/09/2015 09:26

I am also low because there is a horrible picture of me up on FB, with my choir. And most of the time I fool myself I don't look horrible but this pic truly is horrible. I honestly don't know what to do about how horrible I look. It makes me very sad.

herbaceous · 06/09/2015 09:29

HUSH.

I just saw that pic, and my immediate thought was 'ooh look, there's MI, and she looks great!' You shine out of the photo.

motherinferior · 06/09/2015 09:31

Orange hair does thatGrin

Blackduck · 06/09/2015 09:34

Likewise Herbs

I'd be pointing out that I also spend my money on boring house related stuff. I do get fed up with being the sensible one.

motherinferior · 06/09/2015 09:37

To be fair, he is the one that produces extra cash for house stuff. And is generous. I am stingy and frugal. And have no overdraft.

Blackduck · 06/09/2015 09:42

Are you me MI?!

Lalsy · 06/09/2015 10:09

MI, what are you talking about? You look great.

I once won a weekend with a red sports car. When dh drove it into our street, all our neighbours looked at me pityingly - they thought he was having the mother of all mid-life crises (if you saw our car, you would understand Grin).

CV, Grin.

And Beachy, she looks v happy girl on FB, lovely.

motherinferior · 06/09/2015 10:22

You are all very kind but I am quite aware that I look like the love-child of Jenni Murray and Beaker from the Muppets. I usually do, and it does make me vvv sad, but I am not sure there is much I can do about that.

GiddyGiddyGoat · 06/09/2015 10:44

I won't say 'don't be silly!' MI because I can hear that you are upset and unhappy - but it is true that to others looking at your photo they can't see what you see! I also clicked on the link and saw another pic of you in the panorama shot where you look very lovely. Have you seen and noticed that one?!

bigTillyMint · 06/09/2015 10:53

MI, I thought the same as Herbs too!

I think DH is the sensible one in our relationship, though TBF, I am pretty sensible with money mostly. And we have a joint account for house/family stuff which we pay into each according to our earningsWink The left-over money in our own accounts is for us. DH invests his for (us, I hope) for the future. I spend mine on the here and nowWink

Cremo · 06/09/2015 10:59

MI you always look amazing to me!
Don't do yourself a disservice.
I am quite heartened by your stoicism in the face of Sports Car-gate. If dh did this I would leave him. ( prob because our finances are embroiled at a deep level) he has always talked wistfully about a Harley Davidson, but I am hoping the moment has passed.

I think well have to phone Zedel as we have now more than ten people and booking online is limited to > 10
Sorry I'm not able to do this from here or I would ( phone has a cap on it lest I overspend)
Off on our travels today without a plan- am q excited. Have packed a picnic and am imagining river side bucolic location.

What's all this about snow forecast for next week? ( in paper) surely bolleaux.

motherinferior · 06/09/2015 11:12

And the money thing does get me down. He gets nice stuff because he's prepared to go into debt. The girls get nice stuff because it's the joint account - and if I put the brakes on, eg about school trips, he says oh they should have them. And I am frugal and shop in charity shops and worry about spending £69 on a bag or money on a haircut. So I lose out AND am boring.
