I am just wondering what the average/norm is?

Never gone to a salon. I do my own and sometimes i cant be even bothered so don't do them at all!!

SwedishEdith · 19/06/2015 16:05

Never. Just not on my radar of things to do.

Bunbaker · 19/06/2015 16:11

Never. I have perfectly good natural nails that I keep in shape myself.

elderflowerlemonade · 19/06/2015 16:12

To be specific then - if you do get your nails done, how often :)

I go once a month. My nails grow fast and I find after 5 weeks I start to lose them...

NomiMalone · 19/06/2015 16:15

I've had my nails done twice in my life.

I can do them just as well so why bother.

elderflowerlemonade · 19/06/2015 16:17

Yea, we've established some people don't have them done at all - but for people who do!

Thanks grim!

Every three weeks for the past 6 years.

27inmyhead · 19/06/2015 16:17

I had shellac at Christmas and my nails are only just recovering. I am going to do them myself from now on.

elderflowerlemonade · 19/06/2015 16:18

Thanks Steban - so is about every 3-4 weeks about right?

OP posts:
lanbro · 19/06/2015 16:19

Every two weeks but my best friend is a nail technician, otherwise I'd do them myself!

fullasagun · 19/06/2015 16:19

Every 3 weeks without fail for a gel polish

burnishedsilver · 19/06/2015 16:25

About every 6 weeks. I do them myself in between. Shellac was a disaster for me too. Never again.

Bunbaker · 19/06/2015 17:49

When you ask about having nails done, what exactly do you mean? Having them shaped and new varnish? Having false nails stuck on? Other?

I have strong, healthy nails that have never had shellac, gel or anything else stuck onto them. I just cut and shape them as and when required, and prompted by this thread, I put a couple of coats of nail varnish on them today.

BrumBabe · 19/06/2015 17:50

Every 3 to 4 weeks

elderflowerlemonade · 19/06/2015 18:03

Having them shaped and polished yes.

I go about twice a month; sometimes I get Shellac which on me lasts three weeks.

SenecaFalls · 19/06/2015 18:14

I really like the new gel-like polishes like Vinylux and Revlon's Gel Envy. The don't require the UV lamp and can be removed with regular remover. They don't last as long as a true gel but longer than regular polish.

chocolateyy · 19/06/2015 18:15

I bought a gel lamp, so do mine every week.

I'm quite hard on my nails, so it keeps them looking half decent!

Before I bought the lamp, I went to the salon every 3 weeks.

pinkfrocks · 19/06/2015 18:21

Never. Consider it a huge waste of money. I clip and file once a week and then use a pale nude polish which I might do again after 3-4 days. why pay someone to do something you can do yourself? The only reason I'd ever have them done was if I wanted a dark colour polish well applied for a really special occasion- but can't see that ever happening.

elderflowerlemonade · 19/06/2015 18:22

Yes, I realise not everybody will want to pay money to get their nails done, but I was wondering what the 'norm' is for those who do!

OP posts:
DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 19/06/2015 18:23

Never, I do my own.

pinkfrocks · 19/06/2015 18:24

well surely it's different for everyone depending on whether you have a manual job such as a gardener , or you sit and eat cake all day and have servants :)

elderflowerlemonade · 19/06/2015 18:25

Of course Smile but I haven't had them done before but it's something I want to start doing.

So I wondered about how many times I should be going. About once a month seems 'normal' ?

RonaldosAbs · 19/06/2015 18:29

Shellac mani/pedi every 2 weeks.
