Can I ask a question to those of you who do your own gel at home.

How much do you spend on it?

Reason why Im asking is that Im thinking of doing it myself. I have priced up on the internet and for £50 I could have the lamp, 11 different polishes, base coat, top coat, acetone remover and 200 little foil things that you put on your fingers to help get rid with the acetone.

ATM I pay £17 every 3 weeks or so and Im not sure if its worth it just so I can do my nails on an evening rather than spending a saturday every 3 weeks out of the house (I work FT Mon-Fri, DH is SAHD so I feel guilty fucking off on a sat as well even though it is only half a day Im actually out for)

I do acrylic nails and have an infill every two weeks. I keep them fairly short still and they look very natural. I have them done because it makes me feel alot better and it is the one treat I give myself.
I started having them when my oh proposed with a lovely ring. I felt so consious of my hands that I hated showing the ring to people and my poor dp thought I didnt like the ring!

Silly question but when do you get them done ? Is this a weekend thing ? I'm assuming it takes more than 15 minutes and you need to be a little careful for 30 mibs afterwards ? I like the idea but what with the drive to somewhere to get them done etc etc surely it takes 1-2 hours each time ? Or does everyone have someone come to their house in evenings ? Genuinely interested as I like the idea but can't see how it fit it in (hairdresser is bad enough - only manage that once a year !)

I don't work on Mondays so I have them done whilst the DC are at school. However, very few beauticians are open on Mondays so it took me a while to find a good one that was!

The beauty of gel nails is they dry instantly so there is no need to be careful afterwards.

Normally takes an hour but my beautician is a perfectionist plus I have nail art so it can take longer Confused

I have stopped having acrylics as they don't really go with changing happiest.

I have a manicure every two weeks though, massage, cuticles, treatment and polish. Costs me £45. I have a pedicure once a month which increases to once a fortnight in the summer, also costs £45. I get my eyebrows done at the same time.

If I have an appointment at 8.30/9 on a Saturday morning I'm home again by 10/10.30. We don't do a lot before that time on a Saturday so it's no inconvenience at all.

I have just started getting my nails done, used to bite mine but got false gel nails and a french manicure fir my wedding and liked them so much I got them done again after three weeks, the second set have just been removed and my own nails are bow getting to be a decent length and I just treated myself to stuff to do them at home but will still treat myself to a gel treatment when I feel like it as they look fab and I enjoy the treat. Am tempted to buy a uv lamp etc and the stuff to do it at home.

For me it was just a treat for my wedding but I liked it and after almost 16yrs raising five kids I am finally making more time for myself, goung running, putting make up on and generally just making more effort with myself.

I got gelux nails, I got shellac and they ruined my nails as well but gelux are amazing and help them grow! I get mine done every two weeks. Sometimes if I have too I will leave them for three weeks but then there is so much growth at the bottom that it looks untidy and scruffy. I feel like if I am paying to get them done on a regular basis it is worth paying to get them done more frequently so that they look as they should

I go once every two or three weeks for normal polish, my nails are hard and opi usually lasts a week without any chips, after that it starts to wear down on my dominant hand. I get pleasure everytime I look at my nails looking good which is why I have them done.

I have been having gel nails done for a few years but when I had to change nail lady a couple of years ago I had to switch from Bio Sculpture to Gelish. Bio used to last 3-4 weeks, Gelish would just about squeeze 2 weeks out of them and would need to patch up with matching nail polish at home to get through to my next appt at 3 weeks. So I stopped having the gel and started doing my own with normal nail polish. Even using the much praised Seche Vite they only lasted 4 days so I bought my own gel lamp and Bluesky polishes last me a good 2 weeks. I like the fact that I can patch them up myself to repair any chips if I don't want to replace the lot. They look hideously grown out after 3 weeks though.

Turnoverthetv. 15 for fingers and toes! That's absurdly cheap. What product is it? Poor person is probably barely making profit.

Currently weekly because its the only way I can keep them nice and by that I mean short with a french manicure. I have very weak nails and this is a new thing Im doing to try and keep them looking nice.

I have no idea how to do it myself and my eyesight would make it very difficult anyway.
