Get my Infills done about once a month, inclusive of painting.
I painting them myself though each day.

I generally get shellac for hands every fortnight but at the moment I'm stretching out to 3 weeks as the salon owner is on maternity and her temporary replacement is painfully slow. It's growth rather than chipping that means I can't go any longer. My hands don't look like mine with unpolished nails or even if I venture outside a small range of colours. I go to a cheap salon near my office - £13 including soak off.

I get toes done with shellac as and when I remember. I went on holiday in February and I know from running through the colours I've had since that I've only had them done 3 times since mid February . I would make more effort if we actually approached sandal weather!

Phoebe Have you tried Vinylux or Gel Envy? I'm in the States, but I think they are both available in the UK.

I had mine done for the first time last week and they are already chipping a bit.

I just wondered if most people who did get them done had them done weekly.

I don't paint my nails at all - I'm sporty and also ride my brother's horses so it would be hopeless so lucky I don't care.

Toes I usually get shellac at the start of the summer then overpaint with normal varnish. Always leave them natural the rest of the year ever since a chiropodist told me that constantly painted toenails (especially shellac) are far more prone to fungal infections.

I've started with acrylics. Love them. Every three weeks

I'm a Nail Technician and I see most of my clients every 3 weeks, some it's fortnightly.

I am shocked at how little some of you pay - I charge £27 for gelpolish soak off/recolour and for £30 I include IBX. I am fully booked for the next 2 weeks so clearly I am not putting people off! £15 - £17 minus overheads is not making much profit.....

Mine cost £23.

Yep acrylics every three weeks/month. Simple pink and white with a low tip and round corners. Costs £18 to refill and £25 for a new full set. Then I do my feet every other month which can bring my total treatments to £56 Shock but I loves and needs it Grin

I haven't braved a pedicure yet.

That's next!

I'm fascinated that this has become a totally normal thing. I have never had mine done but it's not something on my radar either. I just could not justify paying £30 every three weeks on my nails but hey, each to their own

I have a manicure every 1-2 weeks and pedicure every 1-2 months.

I use normal nail varnish not shellac and usually remove the nail varnish once a month and go without for a week to let my nails breathe. Toes are always varnished.

Manicures in my part of london cost £10 and pedi around £20

Why come on the thread then, genuinely?

I'm wondering what every 'how much exercise does your dog have' type thread would be like if people came on to say 'none, don't have a dog' or 'I have never had a c section so I don't know' or 'don't know, as we aren't married.'

Confused

Anyway, I had mine done for the first time last week. It does seem to be a 'thing' and I noticed at baby group I was the only one with au natural nails. They get their nails done a lot and talk about it a lot so I got self conscious and decided to get mine done.

OP in fairness I did answer your question, just observed I wasn't doing mine any more.

I had a sneaky feeling you were going to say you were planning to start because you got self conscious. When I began doing mine, it wasn't a norm. Now it is, which has made deciding to stop quite hard. There are so many nail salons now. Maybe I should set one up, I've had years of experience Smile

Just to ask a question, that's all. Sorry.

For me is not about the polish lasting longer, it's about the cuticles. I can never get the cuticles looking as well when I do it myself.

Every 3 weeks shellac on fingers about every 6 weeks on toes. One of the many little things in life that make me happy Grin

I'm in the US South. I think it's a law here. Smile I hardly ever wear make-up but my nails and toes are always done.

"I'm fascinated that this has become a totally normal thing."

So am I, although I know far more people who don't bother having their nails done than do. I can't help thinking that having stuff on your nails all the time can't be good for them.

I got a gel lamp and do my own gels. Infill every 2 weeks and whole new set every 6 weeks or so. I get bluesky colours from eBay. Used to go to a salon but got lamp once I had DS so I can do myself. I love gels as they don't chip at all. Nothing worse than chipped polish!!

I have never had anything done to my nails - just not who I am ... but Seneca, my MIL, in the US, has both nails and toes done every week, every single week. Must take a couple of hours?

Report
chickenschicken · 20/06/2015 07:57

Fingers every 2 weeks, toes every month or so. Shellac or gellish depending on what colour I pick.
I don't wear make up, started when Dd was tiny as I couldn't get the rest of me up to scratch. But I always had nice nails.
