Inspired by the Lipstick Queen are crap thread, I've got things I need to get off my chest (so to speak).

Nude lipstick, can't bear it. Hate, hate the 'foundation coloured lips' look.

There are others but that is my most loathed thing at the moment.

Do other people have things that the whole world seems to love but them?

oh dear and there I was thinking that I wasn't too bad. But so many of my favourite things mentioned here.

I think I suit wrap dresses, they look smart for my job. I work in an office that's not corporate enough to do the whole suit thing but not casual either, so a nice fitted wrap over dress with a camisole under if its too low cut and a decent shoe, looks much smarter. Today I have a maxi dress on, but its not maxi dress how many would wear, i.e its not voluminous and billowing, its a heavy weight drapey jersey, and I'm wearing it with a short cashmere cardigan.

the main thing I dislike is too try hard. seen a few blogs with mums approaching or in their 30's who suddenly feel the need to go all rock chick and cut off their hair for a quiff/pixie crop, heavy eyebrows and dark lipstick.

also how blogs all seem to show the same stuff at the same time, I love reading them and most of the time think they are a good read, but then one evening it will be blog after blog of khaki trousers, that military jacket, those lace up sandals, all linking to and wearing the same things.

HelpMeGetOutOfHere · 28/04/2015 11:26

I have a friend (well fellow rugby mum) and she always looks stylish in the summer in her long loose linen trousers, drapey jersey top and short cardigan, with ballet flats. I can wear the exact same outfit and within seconds I look like a crumpled bag lady oh and ballet flats make me addle not walk. she seriously is the only lady I have ever seen be able to walk and look elegant in ballet flats.

50ShadesOfSummer · 28/04/2015 11:34

I have sinned too. Brothel creepers, coloured tights (not necessarily together but I reserve the right), over-knee boots, denim shorts, (fake) leather leggings, wedge shoe-boots. In fact most of my foot wear is on this list.

I avoid the leggings with short top look except for a very thick, textured pair which I think looks OK.

Things I don't like: maxi dresses, Birkenstocks, Ugg boots, trainers (Nike Adidas) worn anywhere except when at the gym or out running.

For men/boys: low slung jeans that show your pants. Don't want to see them and it makes you walk in a ridiculous way. Also on older men, mid-blue jeans worn with a smart tan shoe. Just looks naff.

Nabootique · 28/04/2015 11:51

Can someone link to a pair of brothel creepers? I'm not sure I know what they are.

Loafers, or pasty shoes as my friend calls them. My number one hate, they make me feel sick.

Christmas jumpers.

Nabootique · 28/04/2015 12:49

Urgh! Thanks niminy!

daftyburd · 28/04/2015 12:56

Niminypiminy I love an Argyle check. Nearly all my socks are Argyle. Today I am wearing a pale blue/cream pair with my jeans rolled up just enough to show them off Grin

TitsUpTime · 28/04/2015 13:06

Love my over-the-knee boots, red nails, fake tan. Making myself out to be Liz McDonald here, arent I? Grin

My S&B hates:

Fake eyelashes

Obvious hair extensions.

People who fill in their eyebrows. Its never subtle. Dont get it. Especially blonde/red heads who use brown pencil on their fair eyebrows. Very strange look.

Skyscraper heels with the slight platform, Louboutin-style. They just look ridiculous.

Brogues. Hideous.

Denim jackets.

Whole shops make me itch. Cos and that ilk of shops that sell shapeless sacks in dull colours. Fashion should be fun!

afink · 28/04/2015 13:07

Fake tan

Gel nail varnish (or, to be honest, any nail varnish unless it's clear - I just think it looks tacky)

Gladiator sandals

Boots with a peep toe (WHYYYYY?)

Lots of jewellery, especially when it's gold and turquoise or coral coloured and is paired with aforementioned fake tan and brightly coloured gel nails

Those hair doughnut things that people use to make giant buns - look awful.

White Stuff/Joules/Boden tunics. I like some of the things that those shops sell, but the tunics are naff.

OnlyLovers · 28/04/2015 13:10

any nail varnish unless it's clear - I just think it looks tacky) Shock

I'm doing my base coat and pondering whether to go for navy or purple as I type. Grin

I don't do any of the other stuff on that list though apart from I love tunics.

afink · 28/04/2015 13:14

Also:

Waterfall cardigans

Scouse brows

Those summery trousers that are fashionable at the moment - billowy cotton jobs that are tapered at the bottom and often have a jaunty aztec print on them. Last seen in 1991. They looked terrible then and they look terrible now.

GoStraightGoStraight · 28/04/2015 13:18

I think Cos is great for workwear and simple, classy, basic staples and separates that can be accessorised and dressed up! Not everyone looks good in patterned dresses covered in flounces and peplums, or skin tight stuff you know. I don't wear Cos, it's not really the sort of look that suits me, I need more structure (I wish it didn't) but I think it's great on other people. Reminds me of all the great Japanese designers who were big in the eighties.

afink · 28/04/2015 13:25

Women wearing Cath Kidston clothing (with the exception of pyjamas - you can get away with CK PJS). I mean, I get it - the prints in the form of clothing are absolutely adorable. FOR A 3 YEAR OLD. NOT A GROWN UP.

Charityworker34 · 28/04/2015 13:37

So much hatred for waterfall cardigans on this thread! I hate them too, just didn't realise the hate was so prolific!

AWholeLottaNosy · 28/04/2015 14:18

I think it's horses for courses really. I've got big boobs and waterfall cardis really suit me! As do wrap dresses. And it would be boring if we all looked the same wouldn't it?

AmelieinOz · 28/04/2015 14:22

Another vote for waterfall cardi. I thought I was the only one who didn't like it!

Charityworker34 · 28/04/2015 14:49

Horses for courses for sure! I love brogues, Birkenstocks and denim jackets

noddyholder · 28/04/2015 14:49

I have big boobs and I couldn't wear either! Grin

Lweji · 28/04/2015 14:54

I like waterfall cardigans. But I have never claimed to be stylish.

Hate any animal print with a passion.

Transparent lace showing underwear.

Platform shoes. I think hoof is a good designation, but we are not hoofed animals.

GunShotResidue · 28/04/2015 14:55

Sperm eyebrows

Pointed nails, or fake nails were the tip ends up wider than the real nail

Ugg boots

Animal print

Gold hardware on black. I don't mind gold on brown, but black should always go with silver.

SevenEleven · 28/04/2015 15:50

I was a fashion student so pretty accepting of any item of clothing (friend came to college in eveing dress, biker jacket and fedora hat and we not not bat an eyelid!) but I cannot understand why people wear those thin leggings where you can see your pants! Do they not look in the mirror? Some are like 40denier opaques when the sun hits them! Other things I personally wouldn't wear are those quilted barbour/joules jackets, spikey false nails, HD eyebrows, hoof shoes, and any shoes by Fly.

looki · 28/04/2015 16:42

I'd love to agree with some of these especially ballet flats but I have seen some on other people that look great and highlight narrow, tanned and slim ankles.. My own wide, flat, blue toned feet look like dead fish whenever I try them on. I reluctantly suspect that quite a number of items listed here are for similar reasons, they look awful on the poster but can look well on others.

(There are exceptions of course).

Runningupthathill82 · 28/04/2015 17:03

One fright of a sight I'm seeing a LOT in this changeable weather is thick, black tights with pale ballet flats.

It's a curious combo of winter legs and a summer shoe. And looks even odder when teamed with a heavy winter coat.

TweenageAngst · 28/04/2015 17:06

Shorts and tights, particularly when there is more arse than short. Also those horrible floppy silky shorts that just collect in arse cracks and billow like sails in the wind at the front. I have never seen a flattering pair.
