Have the Workwear Chatty threads stopped?

MrsBertMacklin · 11/04/2015 00:22

Just clearing down my Watched Threads and realised that I've not seen one in Active Convos for ages, can't find one on the first 5 pages in topic.

Have they stopped? Summer is coming!

Oh great thank you Belinda. I will return the petite ones for the regular fit ones when they are next available then.

Eta I meant Sloan fit not slogan in my pp!

lurkingmurking · 13/04/2015 10:51

Inspired by you lot I have been buying proper fabrics, a Tippi jumper and two 100% silk shirts. I swear they make me 'smellier' than polyester - that can't be right can it?

ElizabethHoover · 13/04/2015 11:08

i had a silk top once that made me a bit stinky

noddyholder · 13/04/2015 11:56

I don't seem to notice a difference in sweatiness so am ok with all the viscose etc in shops but my fake leather jacket from marks was unbearable even in the cold!

lurkingaround · 13/04/2015 12:01

I know silk is lovely, but in the height of summer I find it bloody boiling! Polyester can be sweaty but it's def not as hot as silk!

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 13/04/2015 13:52

Apparently silk doesn't breathe, so it's hard to wear in summer. Except... That I can't wear polyester (makes me sweat, but in a v unpleasant way ie I smell) but I can wear silk. I might get a bit hot in summer, when wearing silk, but I'm generally fine. Although obv you can't wear tight silk, esp in summer, as perspiration will destroy the fabric. Not to mention that silk rips apart at the seams easily, so better go for roomy rather than fitted. God, makes you wonder why I bother with it. It feels so lovely to wear, though.

Littlepinkpear · 13/04/2015 15:33

Hey Belinda!! We missed you Smile

It's the Belgrave simple hobo, it should have been £270 but I had the Grazia code. It's a month old now and I'm not happy.

I'm thinking of a Givenchy Antigona, but I'm holding out in case I spot something else I love more.

I'm seriously considering a bag from Bally too. I like their shapes and the feel of the leather.

lurkingaround · 13/04/2015 16:06

Great to see you back Belinda.

Never knew that about silk. No wonder I was hot! I have a silk jersey dress that I wear to work in summer and I love it, but boy am I hot in it!

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 13/04/2015 16:41

I know this is a total Celine box bag dupe, but I'm v tempted ... jcosstudios.com/products/real-leather-calfskin-messenger-box-bag-camel-small

Thanks lurking and pinkpear Smile

Pear - I'd def return it, and I'd be v surprised if you had any probs doing so.

ElizabethHoover · 13/04/2015 17:28

meh i find bags boring. I just dont give a toss about em

thenightsky · 13/04/2015 17:35

Bags don't float my boat either. I just keep buying them from Primark for under a tenner if I need to.

FrugalFashionista · 13/04/2015 17:35

Of course you can wear silk in summer, but choose sleeves that are not cut too close to the armpit - that is generally not a great idea for summer clothes. I used to live in the tropics and silk tops, silk knits and flirty silk dresses were my staples - it was, however, nearly always too hot for jeans. A pussy-bow type silk blouse would of course have felt suffocating.

Silk cotton is one of my favorite fiber mixes, really lovely to wear.

FrugalFashionista · 13/04/2015 17:37

Polyester tops are insta-stinky on me too.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/04/2015 19:14

Another one here who is bored by bags. They are just functional. I like black, tan or grey in various sizes, leather if small and fabric if big to avoid heaviness - that's it.

Agree that silk/cotton mix is brilliant. There's so little of it around though.

Looki - do you want tube-type midi skirts, or full ones? I'm only 5' 2 but full ones with a fitted top are one of my favourite shapes, providing I wear heels. If it's tube type you want, I highly recommend the Whistles ones. Unfortunately they've only got plain ones at the moment though.

noddyholder · 13/04/2015 19:33

I love bags but don't like designer ones would never pay what could take me on holiday for a bag. Dp bought me one for £75 once as a gift and I was Shock You can get lovely bags for much less

BillStickersIsInnocent · 13/04/2015 19:41

If anyone's after a Broderie top this is sweet - in the white

I'm a 32FF and the 16+ was a little too tight across my bust so going back, but it's lovely. Cotton front and lined with a slightly stretchy back.

ElizabethHoover · 13/04/2015 20:46

thats a kids top

fredabear · 13/04/2015 20:51

bargain blouse - I have in b/w is polyester but loose fitting, ok for in between weather

still waiting for & other stories dresses to arrive...

cheminotte · 13/04/2015 20:55

Thanks for the J Crew tip Belinda - had not heard of that type of wool. To be honest a well cut polyester suit would be OK as well, Jigsaw was all wool free when I last visited but also black or navy.

maybemyrtle · 13/04/2015 20:57

Just jumping in to say that the Uniqlo silk t shirt blouses are fab but definitely size down - I am 10-12 but wear an XS.

Also re silk and cotton, I read somewhere that silk holds heat but cotton holds moisture (or vice versa). I prefer silk to cotton in summer but agree that silk\cotton is brilliant. The silk\cotton shirts from Gap get heavily reduced, I now have 3 and the most expensive one was 9.99. Usually worn oversized with a pencil skirt.

Has anyone braved bare legs yet by the way? Mine are nowhere near ready.

looki · 13/04/2015 20:58

Remus full midi skirts please!!!

BillStickersIsInnocent · 13/04/2015 21:00

Yes. Still nice though.

Littlepinkpear · 13/04/2015 21:11

I never used to be a bag girl. However, I'm carrying an extra stone after giving birth last year and I've got an op next week to remove a lump I found. It's not serious but they are still investigating.

Spending all my hard earned on bags that don't care what size I am is keeping me smiling right now Smile

BillStickersIsInnocent · 13/04/2015 21:15

Belinda I love that box bag - really simple but beautiful.

Littlepinkpear · 13/04/2015 21:15

I spotted this the other day, it's much nicer in real life.
