I keep seeing this on different threads and obv they've been around a long time but is it time to call it a day with the skinny jeans and trousers? I love them!

Skinnies took ages to catch on too - we said we'd never wear them, etc. Some people did stick to their guns and much respect to them but most of us didn't! I'm sure it'll be the same with flares/bootcuts. I think the switch will happen but it could easily take a year or more. As Frugal said upthread, we should just enjoy them both being in the shops - while it lasts.

ZaraW · 05/03/2015 09:17

I just can't see flares being in for more than a year two at most.

Moln · 05/03/2015 10:24

I thought similar about skinnies ZaraW thought I'd always be able to head out And get a pair of kick flares

Stupid fashion. It'd be great if you could just get the style you liked all the time.

I don't see how having extra material flapping round your ankles is considered more flattering.
I hated bootcut jeans when they were in, I hated that no shoes looked good with them and they got soaked through with rain and they made my then hefty size 20 legs look like i had elephantitus.
If you're fat you're going to look fat, no amount of flapping denim at your calves is going to disguise that. Big hips are not 'balanced out' by giant flares.
In fact the only people that look good in flares are those that possess long and lean legs.
Flares, boot cuts and boyfriend jeans look horrific on my muscular size 14 thighs and hefty calves. I look twice the size. At least in skinny jeans you can see the shape of my legs, which I like actually, I work out a lot.
I will never have straight up and down legs unless i went in for some serious muscle removal and liposuction. (Apparently muscle removal is big in Korea where having large calves is considered ugly... Confused )

There's no question of there being any 'switch'. Skinnies are now classic, they're here to stay. But many people are are bored of skinnies so now flares are back in too.

If anything skinnies and flares will be in together.

Skinnies may still be around but sooner or later there'll be threads about how frumpy they look. Plus there'll be all these tops and shoes in the shops that will go much better with flares. Feel free to point and laugh if I'm wrong but that's how it's always happened before and the only way I can see it changing would be if jeans fell out of fashion altogether.

Walked past Debenhams tonight and they had flares in every window...

latenightcakes · 05/03/2015 19:59

Actually where do you get your jeans from? I think I now accept that the £40 or less jeans may seem ok but give them a year and they've lost their shape, gone baggy or knees are wearing out. Do I have to spend over £100? Any tips?

Silverjohnleggedit · 05/03/2015 20:33

I saw a woman yesterday wearing flares/bootcuts circa 1990's, you have to work hard not to look like her....it's so easy to look bad in flares.

I like the low cut hipster clinging to the thighs and expanding at the knee worn with flat leather toe posts and a hippy marant style shirt but I would look like shit wearing that. Sad

OnlyLovers · 06/03/2015 09:59

latenight, Uniqlo do good stretchy ones www.uniqlo.com/uk/store/goods/138474. They're cheap though and I've only started buying them recently, so I can't say how long they last.

FrugalFashionista · 06/03/2015 10:25

I did some people watching yesterday and today. People are starting to wear spring clothes and really many have chosen to wear very pale blue denim, straight leg or slightly tapered, not as baggy as boyfriends: not a million miles away from 1990s 501s. That seems to be a microtrend around here!

IfYoureHappyAndYouKnowIt · 06/03/2015 10:33

It all seems a bit confused to me at the moment.

I went into a local large department store yesterday. Stacks of jeans. I asked if they had Paige flares (they had about ten other styles). They looked blankly and they thought they might have some in soon.

What do you reckon on jeans colour this spring then? I've been looked at flares and can't figure out which colour to go for? I'm not really keen on a lighter look tbh.

Yosemitefalls · 06/03/2015 10:40

I buy my jeans from French Connection - usually around the £80 mark - they are great and last a really decent amount of time, lovely fit etc.

MsBojangles · 06/03/2015 18:13

I love skinny and flares but just found some v flattering slim boyfriend jeans, perfect with sandals for summer.

woodhill · 06/03/2015 20:42

I find jeans and trousers difficult to buy so am grateful if they feel comfortable. those low rise styles were hopeless on me.

carlywurly · 06/03/2015 21:12

I'd be quite happy if they only made straight leg or slim fit jeans. So flattering.
Hate flares and skinnies don't suit my runners calves Hmm
