I keep seeing this on different threads and obv they've been around a long time but is it time to call it a day with the skinny jeans and trousers? I love them!

I love flares and bootcuts have always suited me. I had no idea i shouldnt have been wearing them. I have always been wearing my diesel louvboot. Such a flattering fit. Totally slim down my hips and make my legs look fab!!

I love love love love them so much i have 3 pairs. All in different washes.

I also wear skinnies. Wear them with boots. They look fine but have never liked them with shoes. They just make my legs look stumpy.

GallicIsCharlie · 02/03/2015 19:35

I hate carrot legs! Everybody's feet look miles too big Grin

I agree skinnies have become a staple, like leggings. I've been wearing those comfy bastards for 35 years - not the same pair, mind you.

Flares suit my height & style, but I've just remembered you need a waist to wear them well. My waist disappeared along with my 99th pair of leggings, or thereabouts. Dammit.

GallicIsCharlie · 02/03/2015 19:38

Those are just straight-legs, aren't they, Green? Nice jeans.

Lagoonablue · 02/03/2015 19:41

I was shopping in town today. Flares everywhere!

JegErEnStorNerd · 02/03/2015 19:42

I'm definitely ready for straight leg. Have been wearing straight leg for about four months now. (I still wear skinnies with boots). I agree, they'll be a staple. It's good now, you can suit yourself. There won't be any ONE jean that you have to wear. the jeans I wouldn't touch with a barge pole are 'boyfriend jeans'. They are the least flattering jeans I could possibly wear.

JegErEnStorNerd · 02/03/2015 19:43

Greengarden, those jeans are straight leg, not flare.

SwedeDreams · 02/03/2015 19:44

No-one thought boot cut would go away, they were a staple for so many years through the 90s. And look what happened. They become so unfashionable that you are obliged to give them up.

Exact same thing will happen with skinnies. And if you stockpile them you just end up with piles of wasted clothes that make you look frumpy

Greengardenpixie · 02/03/2015 19:45

They are actually described as slim bootcut. You are right, they arent flares. They are not straightlegs.

Springisontheway · 02/03/2015 20:05

Is this new flared shape going to have a natural waist? Or will the waist band still be slightly lower?

Greengardenpixie · 02/03/2015 20:09

Looks like a lot of the ones on sale are quite a high waist.

mickeyfartpants · 02/03/2015 20:25

Flares are the best! I look so much better in them! I love it when they are so flared they cover almost all of your shoe. This is great news Grin

Fullpleatherjacket · 02/03/2015 20:32

All the charity shops and car boot sales round here are stuffed full of flares and bootcuts.

Sounds like I should be investing Grin

MrsKoala · 02/03/2015 20:43

I don't think anyone looks good in skinnies. There seems to be no ideal size for them, you either are ample of thigh and legs look like parsnips (me), or are thin and legs look like a snake that has swallowed a tennis ball.

I think straight leg are best for thin legs and bootcut for me chunkier legs - but obviously they are considered v frumpy now.

The problem i also have with skinnies is that they are so uncomfortable - i can't pull them up over my calves and so then the crotch is low and the waist digs in my hips. I am currently wearing gap skinnies and they only look okay with boots over the top (i'm sure that's frumpy too but i don't care it's the only way i will leave the house in them) but are horribly uncomfortable.

I was late to the skinny party and i will be early to leave. I think i will investigate boyfriend/mom jeans this summer.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/03/2015 20:46

I've got slim legs but look awful in boyfriend jeans (they make me look huge) and straight leg (just make my legs look fatter than they are). Skinnies or a slim bootcut work best on me.

Greengardenpixie · 02/03/2015 20:51

What are mom jeans? They sound highly unfashionable about like mom boots!

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 02/03/2015 20:56

Exactly what Remus said. I'm going to sort through my jeans and hope I still have some slim bootcuts left. Diesel, 7FAM and Citizens of Humanity all seem to do good ones, but Massimo Dutti also have a great looking pair this season, too, that I plan to try on.

MrsKoala · 02/03/2015 20:59

Mom jeans are apparently what you would imagine Marilyn Monroe wearing with a crisp white shirt.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 02/03/2015 21:00

Flares I can see myself getting into. But what is this cropped flare nonsense? It just looks vile. No no no!

Beaverfeaver2 · 02/03/2015 21:02

I loved my flares when I was slim. They looked fab on me.
When I got to a size 14 they didn't look great anymore and so made the move to skinnies.
I didn't think I could pull them off but my legs looks far better now and I feel more shapely.

If I ever lose the weight I will put my flares on again (still in wardrobe) but for now I'm sticking with the skinnies

they look awful on most people
glad they are dated now

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 02/03/2015 21:31

ew boyfriend jeans Shock

Mrs Koala - I envisage those jeans being worn with braces a la Don't Leave Me This Way. Surely MM would have worn a capri pant?

It took me a while to embrace skinny jeans but I actually really like them now

But I do love a 70s flare - happy with that trend Grin

clippityclop · 02/03/2015 21:35

Hurrah. Horrible, uncomfortable unflattering things that grip in all the wrong places and lead to some hideous sights about the place. I am a size 8 and stick to straight cut to save the world the view of my knobbly knees.
