I keep seeing this on different threads and obv they've been around a long time but is it time to call it a day with the skinny jeans and trousers? I love them!

I find it hard to find any style of trousers that suit me, skinnies go well with boots but don't do my bum justice, flares drag in puddles, boot cut also drag in puddles and I can never find footwear to go with them, leggings are for teenagers unless wearing with a dress, jogging bottoms are for wearing in the house of gym. I can't wait for the summer so I can wear shorts and flip flops Grin.

I agree Kate, dd1 hates skinny's as they are uncomfortable, it's hard to find anything other than skinny's or leggings for girls.

SarahMayF · 02/03/2015 13:54

I will be SO happy if it gets back to a point where I can buy non-skinny jeans in anything but blue!

I don't have a problem with skinnies but they look absolutely hideous on me, and there's no point trying to pretend they don't just to fit in. Hopefully there will just be a bit more diversity in shops again - places like H&M pretty much do exclusively skinny fit jeans at the mo

SuperFlyHigh · 02/03/2015 14:01

I'll wear them...!

but then again I may go for a more relaxed skinny. not a flare or skinny but inbetween if such a style is made!

SecretSquirrels · 02/03/2015 14:18

I have never found a pair that I can wear. I hate the feel of tight fabric around my shins and any that aren't a mile too big on the waist are too tight on my thighs or seem to hang with a gap at the crotch. I feel like a freak that I can't find jeans to fit and I'm a size 12 /14 so not huge.
I wish I had stocked up in 1995 when it all went wrong.

Oscarandelliesmum · 02/03/2015 14:28

I empathise re- boyfriend jeans. I horrify myself in them but have got used to my stumpy little carrot legs in skinnies. What is the chat about girlfriend jeans, what's the difference, does anyone know?

ZaraW · 02/03/2015 14:32

Skinny jeans aren't going anywhere they are more of a staple now they've been around for so long. Shopbop have 539 pairs of skinny jeans on their web page and there are plenty on NAP.

SarahMayF · 02/03/2015 14:36

Can you believe "mom jeans" are actually a thing now? I thought that was an insult!

Whippet81 · 02/03/2015 14:55

worldgonecrazy · 02/03/2015 16:02

What are we supposed to wear with flares/boot cut if we can't wear heels? I can see that distressed flares/sandals will work on holiday, but what are we supposed to wear for work?

It took me ages to let go of flares/boot cuts and move to skinnies, but since then I've developed problems which make heels very painful to wear. Sad

SarahMayF · 02/03/2015 16:07

I wear boots with flares and bootcuts! But then I wear boots with absolutely everything.

worldgonecrazy · 02/03/2015 16:14

Unless you're tall, flares/bootcut trousers (not jeans) with flats just look awful. It's like those dreadfully unflattering outfits that waitresses have to wear, white blouse, bootcut black trousers and flat shoes.

dexter73 · 02/03/2015 16:36

worldgonecrazy - in the Whistles AW15 lookbook they have some flares worn with pointy flat shoes. Only an idea for dry days and the hems of your trousers would get scuffed very quickly though.

Twinklestein · 02/03/2015 16:39

I actually think that unless you're tall skinnies and flats look awful.

Short carrot legs in skinnies and flats is not a good look.

Branleuse · 02/03/2015 16:41

Have they become illegal?

ErrolTheDragon · 02/03/2015 17:11

Bugger. Just got my legs into shape that would be ok with skinnies, because I got some lovely boots which are good with slimleg jeans but wanted skinnies to tuck in neatly. I did find a pair which fitted ok before xmas but was a bit of a hunt. And DD will only wear non-blue skinnies - she'll be starting 6th form in sept so I hope either there are some to be had before then or she changes her mind.

I've still got some bootlegs but they're too big and I really don't want to start wearing that style again. Can't we just stay with slimleg for a while?

As to what footwear goes with flares - I was a teen in the 70s so can assert 'hideous clumpy platforms'. Grin

FrugalFashionista · 02/03/2015 17:28

Worldgonecrazy I like flares and have been wearing them quite often. The comfiest summer footwear for me is Hasbeens, the easiest choice for fall and winter is desert wedge boots. Wore them earlier today.

SecretSquirrels · 02/03/2015 17:36

Well I just looked around a few shops and all I see is........skinnies. There was a pair of "flares" and they fitted apart from the usual gape at the waist.

Another teen of the 1970s here, we wore flares. These are what you now call bootcut - tight on the thigh and wide at the ankle.

blongo · 02/03/2015 17:44

I ditched jeans altogether two years ago so fortunately I don't care Smile.

Linguaphile · 02/03/2015 17:50

Ugh, I hope skinnies don't go too soon--I have ghastly long chicken legs and flares make me look like a clown. At least skinnies can work as 'cropped', whereas flares are a death knell for those of us with a 37" inseam who dislike wearing trousers at half mast. :(

Floisme · 02/03/2015 18:08

Here's the thing: Flares are a faff and a flap and a fiddle and they make your knees soggy. But....find the right pair and your thighs will just disappear. Skinnies are practical and easy and warm but they turn your legs into tree trunks.

It is a conundrum. Whoever manages to solve it should get the Nobel Prize.

Moniker1 · 02/03/2015 18:24

In London fashion week anke socks and pop sox with skirts or dresses seemed to be the thing.

woodhill · 02/03/2015 19:09

remember Trinny and Susannah where everyone suited Bootcut trousers (they were in fashion in 1997). Tops become shorter and more fitted.

sometimes I think skinnies can give you what I call the jacket potato look when you have slim legs but with a big top on your top half which makes your legs look short. I know it's a bit random.

hollyisalovelyname · 02/03/2015 19:23

I think skinnies will always be with us ( like pashminas) no matter what the fashion pack say.
Skinnies suit apples provided crotch and tum are covered.
Pashminas are just so bl*y practical.
