I keep seeing this on different threads and obv they've been around a long time but is it time to call it a day with the skinny jeans and trousers? I love them!

I hate bootcut trousers and live in skinny cut jeans or chinos of various colurs, although not the really skin tight. I'm cuddly round the middle but I think they're flattering - you can wear them with flats but they are leg-lengthening with heeled boots. I used to wear bootcut black trousers on a night out but now just wear skinny black jeans with a nice top, jacket & boots.

Someone pointed out to me the other day that it's only older women generally who live in jeans. Look around you - teenage girls wear dresses, skirts with thick tights, etc. Rarely jeans.

debbriana · 02/03/2015 22:01

Skinny jeans is here to stay. It's like a pencil skirt. It's going to become oh of those classic styles.

Greengardenpixie · 02/03/2015 22:05

Debbriana, that is a very good point! I rarely see any teenagers wearing jeans!

Greengardenpixie · 02/03/2015 22:05

but then i do see them wearing skinny jeans and jeggings!

MrsKoala · 02/03/2015 22:07

I've only lived in Jeans since having the dc. Before that it was skirts and wide leg 40s style trousers - but now i have to wrestle on the floor and crawl around all the time jeans are more practical. I used to only own sexy bootcut jeans to go with high heels.

MrJolly - i think on me they would look more like capri pants anyway Grin I think the models wear them too loose and they should be more fitted imo.

Jeans in general are teh most angsty difficult item of clothing i have ever tried to look good in. The trouble with them is the illusion of ease and comfort. You are supposed to be able to just chuck a pair on and look great.

I think skinnies are fine and dandy if you don't have knobbly legs!

Unless you have a decent pair of legs, they do look rather lumpy and bumpy, and with muffiny overhangs, it's not a look I shall miss. Skinnies remind me of that captain from certain films...

A more relaxed style is better from the front and certainly from the back, especially if you've made like June, and started to bust out all over.

Having said that, young people with svelte legs can wear them without too much bother, but I'm looking froward to a more relaxed trend.

I love skinnies, I will never, ever wear flares.
They show off my one good feature, once the legs go I'll be buying elastic waisted straight leg comfy trousers, two pairs for £15 from LandsEnd no doubt!

OnlyLovers · 03/03/2015 08:50

I LOVE skinnies. I've been reading about them being over for years now in various mags and fashion supplements; the industry seems to be trying to kill them off but in RL on the streets and in the shops they're still everywhere. And long may they reign!

I'm thinnish with wide pear hips and quite large feet, so a lot of people on here would probably disapprove of my in my skinnies, but I give no shits. I think women of all shapes and sizes look good in them.

I'd strop and cry if someone took away my skinnies and told me I could only wear boot-cut or boyfriend or whatever.

dexter73 · 03/03/2015 08:53

I never get the problem with legs looking parsnip shaped. That is the shape of legs! Everybody's legs are wider at the top than at the bottom so why is that something that needs to be disguised? Embrace your natural shape!

JAC25 · 03/03/2015 10:05

I remember, in the 60's, getting into the bath in new jeans to shrink them down to very skinny. Sometimes so tight that you had to sew yourself into them (no elastine in those days). I went back into skinny about 4 years before my daughter . Always hated boot cut, but I must say that my going trousers in 1972 were 28 inches round the bottom of the leg!
I will stick with skinny whatever the trend

Postino · 03/03/2015 10:19

The upside for me if skinnies are over (and I doubt they really are, yet) is that with any luck tops will get more fitted to compensate - my waist is a much better feature than my legs and it's been hidden for years!

annoyedofnorwich · 03/03/2015 10:27

Good. They look bloody ridiculous on me. So pleased to see less of them last time I went shopping!

NotYouNaanBread · 03/03/2015 13:51

What do you think they are being replaced by? Shops like Topshop, which are usually pretty on the ball with these things, are still predominantly stocking skinnies, and the current thing is ripped skinnies.

Boyfriend jeans only suit the very lithe, and even then they don't work with any sort of warm footwear, so they're out until the summer anyway (for mere mortals, anyway).

I like the less demin-y style - more like skinny stretchy trousers.

honeyharris · 03/03/2015 16:18

What is this news??? I was just thinking that I should maybe finally get rid of my boot cuts as they're looking a bit dated and have finally given in to wearing skinnies. Turns out I'm fashion forward.

Fantastic, I'm sure everyone is sick of seeing my bum crack in skinnies - never been able to get them to stay up properly.

PrimalLass · 03/03/2015 16:25

I am 'plump' but look far better in the right skinnies. Not looking forward to flappy ankles at all.

Moln · 03/03/2015 16:34

I sworn blind I wouldn't wear skinnies when they stated coming in as a style. I was never wearing anything but flares!!

Now admittedly I don't wear jeans even half as much but the two pairs of jeans I have are skinnies.

Are flares replacing them? Not been in any shops for ages so haven't a clue what's in them.

Also the shop I got all my jeans from (because their sizing and price suited) has gone. So where do I go now?? I miss you A Wear!!!

applesandchairs · 03/03/2015 16:47

Dexter I completely agree. Legs that don't look like parsnips must be straight up and down which isn't a great shape for legs IMO! Either really thin all down or really very thick all the way down! Legs ARE parsnip shaped!

colleysmill · 04/03/2015 19:46

I thought of this thread today as I merrily popped into town in hopeful search of some decent flares to replace my ancient ones. Skinnies everywhere and not a flare in sight.

Twinklestein · 04/03/2015 20:23

I don't agree that legs are parsnip-shaped. I would say good legs are carrot shaped, if we have to go with the vegetable metaphor.

Parsnips are a lot bigger at the top than at the bottom, that's the point and it makes skinnies look peculiar.

revealall · 04/03/2015 20:39

I agree that jeans are probably over for a while. Blue denim just looks a bit dated now. The only jeans that look slightly cool on me are the scruffy baggy ironic jeans from Asda and black skinnies.
I have some funky trousers and skirts with tights.

Not sure whether to ditch or keep 3 drawers of denim in every size and cut.

Anjelika · 04/03/2015 20:46

I too noticed today that the shops are keeping their flares well hidden!! River Island & Top Shop had them on mannequins in the window but trying to find them in the actual shop was not easy. In the jean sections it was wall to wall skinnies and the flares were hanging somewhere else altogether. I had gone on a mission to buy some flares as I love them but had succumbed to the skinny/slim leg and thrown all but one pair away - sob. I bought some from River Island in the end but the ones in Top Shop were pretty nice too - high waisted as well. Oasis had a few bootcuts in but their jeans don't suit me. Next had quite a few bootcuts and flares in and I was very tempted by one particular pair (great value at £28) but they were not quite as long as I wanted. Might go back though and get them to wear with flats.

Silverjohnleggedit · 05/03/2015 07:16

The flares I have seen on bloggers gives their thighs a bit of bulk, I truly don't get that they are flattering - they give a legs an odd hourglass look, which is worse than a parsnip share. And the style revamp hasn't really worked, they still look like a 90s vibe, not cool. I think they are the new Jean interest for the summer - think boyfriend, coloured Jean, mom Jean...skinnies are here for another while yet, imo.

Yosemitefalls · 05/03/2015 07:28

Jeans will never be over, they may take on different forms but they are the mainstay piece of clothing in so many people's wardrobe.
