Yes, even before the colour day lots of my favourite clothes were winter colours. Annoyingly I had a crisis of confidence and got rid of lots because I decided I couldn't wear black. It's double star at 100 for me, so I'm kicking myself now.

Does anyone else regret getting rid of items pre-diagnosis? I especially mourn an emerald and black wrap dress and a cropped navy knitted jacket. I've actually been looking on ebay to see if I can buy them again.

carrie74 · 18/09/2014 17:01

Another who thought black could never work, but actually, it's really good on me if I'm tanned (less so when I'm all pasty in winter).

OneDay, I think the coast would work for winters, yes. :)

As for whites, I prefer them against my face (again especially in summer). This for me was the biggest eye opener for me: I knew I loved white, but didn't really appreciate the white vs cream issue. It's great to now know! So white Ts, white shirts for work etc. I'm very drawn to white tops.

didireallysaythat · 18/09/2014 17:07

Anyone seen jackets OK for natural romantics ? Everything seems to be triangular around the neck or buttoned up high (if you get what I mean). I need a semi formal one to dress up jeans and a vest for a presentation.

QueenCardigan · 18/09/2014 18:03

I always knew I was cool but tended to lean towards the muted summer shades although I knew I looked good in navy and black (although the older I've got I do need make up with black!). Most of my cardigans were summer colours. I have a dress though that was the exact shade of one the purples. Weirdly though most of my nail polishes were winter shades.

House wise, my living room is reds and purples although the rest of the house tends to be neutral because dh is boring and doesn't like colour. I've always like the hints of colours though which I guess are the ice colours of the paint world.

I wore some white tops but got rid of a monsoon one as I thought it wasn't that flattering. Wish I'd kept it. I never wore really creamy creams but again I thought that the more summer whites suited me better.

All in all it was a revelation to know that I can wear bright colours as I'd never have picked them out for myself!

DidI- are you looking for a blazer style jacket? I'm the same style too and struggling.

didireallysaythat · 18/09/2014 21:08

perfect yes a blazer I think - needs to hbe stiff enough to take a mike so nothing jersey.

Just gone through phase eight, Hobbes, oasis, can't see what I'm looking for. I guess a work dress would work but that would be a bigger deal as I'd need shoes etc.

BodminPill · 18/09/2014 21:32

Hi all,

Lurker coming out of hiding here. This colour stuff is a bit of a revelation to me. I was clothes shopping last Autumn and in the midst of trying on lots of new clothes (had lost quite a few pounds) I really twigged that certain consistent colours just didn't suit me while others unexpectedly did.

My the power of Mumsnet I dug further and confirmed that I am a Winter - I'm not sure what type as I live overseas and don't really have access to a decent colour consultant, but I have dark, dark brown hair, slightly olive-toned but very pale skin and brown/grey eyes. I love great in black, navy, indigo, mole, pale gray, ice blue, chinese blue, true red, raspberry, fuschia and emerald and pine shades, but look god awful in royal blue, light emerald and deep burgundy or pine shades. Anyone know what type this might make me?

Also, has anyone seen this bag in real life? I'm looking for a red saddle or box-type bag, but this looks a bit brown/rusty in the photo and I'm not sure about the quality. I'd be ordering on-line to ship overseas so no chance of seeing it in the shops and would be difficult to return. I'd really love a red Celine box bag, but no chance of that!!!!

Thanks all!

My wedding & engagement ring were platinum so ok there. Got a beautiful gold chain & bracelet for my 30th but still wear now & again as love them!

SorrelForbes · 18/09/2014 22:43

I've always been drawn to bright reds and blues and had some nice compliments when wearing either shade. However, my default was usually neutrals in cream or beige and I used to wonder why I looked so bleuurrrghhh!

I did always prefer silver jewellery and chose platinum for my engagement and wedding rings.

Wahhhh! Don't say that Travlin I thought I had it sussed, but maybe not after all Confused I just looked a little more after reading your post and you could well be correct. If I try royal/cobalt blue or orchid purple it just looks too much on me, but some of the cooler taupey shades (stone, mushroom possibly) look good. But then, I think black looks good on me so now I don't know.

What would be the the decisive colours do you think? i.e. only a true summer or true winter could pull off?

(off to check out a summer thread now)

MrPop · 19/09/2014 08:50

Bodmin I am pretty sure I have seen that bag IRL. I think M&S bags are pretty good quality but I am coming from that with a high street perspective not a designer one! From memory I think the bag is a bit of a richer colour in the flesh.

Didi what sort of style jacket would suit a natural romantic? I like virtual shopping so can have a look if I know the brief Grin

I have been absent from the thread for a bit as I was trying to have a no spend September. Am sad to say I have failed and have fallen off the wagon quite badly now.

Bought
MnS boots

merino cardigan in purple, iirc it is a good match for damson.

flannel shirt - not sure about this one as the 'white' is cream so need to decide if that is an issue for me.

blazer - have had a HnM blazer in the past and really liked the fit so will see how I go with this one.

Phew, need to restart my spending ban now!!

Although I am really keen to get some burgundy boots. I'd love a pair like this but haven't seen any yet. I love the colour of these from Clarks but I am not sure that I suit chelsea boots.

Re being drawn to my colours, I have always liked purples etc but wouldn't say I have used them in decoration etc. Usually have quite neutral home decoration though I do like brights as well. In my wardrobe before I did have all kinds of colours including yellow which I do still really like though it doesn't like me. I like orange and coral too. I was never keen on navy or blue thinking them quite boring colours but I can see now that they suit me a lot.

MissScatterbrain · 19/09/2014 09:04

I can't wear too much white - not one of my best colours but in summer when I am a bit tanned, I do like wearing a white t shirt with jeans and a brightly coloured cardigan.

Had a lot of black in my wardrobe before I got diagnosed - suits, shoes, boots, coats etc so was happy to be told I;m a winter. I remember the late 80s when jewel colours were very fashionable and red lipstick and nails were in - I looked amazing but less so when cream and beige came into fashion! I still mourn for the beautiful burgundy suit I had - got so many compliments. The skirt shrunk in the wash Sad

QueenCardigan · 21/09/2014 09:00

Ladies, we've fallen to page 4 Shock so just bumping us back up!

Anyone got any god outfits to report lately? I'm still finding this in between changeable weather very tedious and really want to start wearing my winter clothes.

OneDayWhenIGrowUp · 21/09/2014 09:10

I think I might be brave and try out wearing some basic white tops!

I'm still learning this colour stuff, but where do we stand on teal?

I wore this dress the other day, with a grey marl long slouchy cardigan in a thin jersey fabric, black opaque tights and black wedge shoe boots, plain silver jewellery and a black hair accessory. I'm only 5ft2 so this is just below mid-thigh length on me, not the microskirt it looks on the mannequin!

Does anyone have any recommendations for neutral shades of lipstick for winter complexions? I have some brighter ones that I'm happy with for more made-up looks, but struggle with nude/neutral. Boyfriend has accused me of looking like a zombie before.

OneDayWhenIGrowUp · 21/09/2014 09:13

I also admired a really simple but elegant monochrome outfit on someone at work yesterday - a plain black tunic dress, with white skinnies, and a slightly oversize (but not too bulky - jersey fabric) grey long drapey cardi. She had on embellished black/grey flats and the only colour was a big statement ring in purple, and she looked fab.

OneDayWhenIGrowUp · 21/09/2014 09:14

Hmm that teal dress looks more muted on the screen, it's brighter in real life.

SorrelForbes · 21/09/2014 09:27

Morning all.

I had a bit of an epic shopping trip in London yesterday. I bought two new bra sets in Bravissimo (the Satine) one of which is Violet and a good bright colour) and two pairs of jeans (one faded, one black) from Donna Ida.

I tried this Uniqlo shirt in grey. It wasn't quite right colour wise but still fairly cool in tone. Unfortunately they didn't have my size in the grey or black. The Navy didn't look that good on me tbh.

I also bought a Tom Ford lipstick (Bruised Plum) which is a nice, a good daytime colour for A/W, Tom Ford Shanghai Lily perfume and Armani Silk foundation in shade 5.25 which was much paler than the SA had anticipated working for me. I am deceptively ghost like.

Today I am wearing my new faded jeans (rolled up), flat silver sandals, a raspberry silk mango tshirt, my new Satine bra and all three new beauty products.

No eating in this house until next year Grin

MissScatterbrain · 21/09/2014 09:58

This weather is tricky with cool mornings and warm afternoons - I am wearing mostly skinny jeans (with bottoms rolled up when its warm) with converse shoes or birkies (depending on how warm it is) and t shirts with brightly coloured crew cut cardigans. On cold mornings I wear a scarf as my neck feels the cold easily.

When I am at work its mostly trousers (current fav is Gap's cropped slim black trousers) with a blouse or shirt. My cardigans are getting plenty of wear as well as my jackets are too warm.

Its lovely not having to wear coats just yet.

No wonder I can't be bothered to think about Autumn/Winter wear.

MissScatterbrain · 21/09/2014 10:02

Teal is not a winter colour - its either too warm or muted.

But a rich intense and cool turquoise should look good on winters - I have a few pieces in that colour that I love wearing.

MrPop · 21/09/2014 11:54

I think I am feeling quite uninspired by the weather and looking forward to being able to get my proper winter stuff out. Shouldn't wish it away though as once winter comes, it is here for a looong time.

Today I am wearing grey t-shirt (I looked at my swatches and ratings again the other day and grey / silver are some of my best colours), black skirt and damson uniqlo cardigan over it. The cardigan is pretty warm though so might not wear it out. Not sure about shoes yet.

Am generally wearing jeans, top, light jacket in the mornings and trainers / converse / slipper shoes to try to be warm enough in the mornings but cool enough in the afternoons.

Sorrel your outfit today sounds lovely. What jeans did you get?

I have bought a few grey jeans to try from Mint velvet - never bought from there before but enticed by a code - AW14MV15 for 15% off.

OneDay I like revlon's berry smoothie for a neutral everyday. I also like the Chubby stick - strawberry something (sorry can't remember full name). Both are pretty sheer and give a bit of a tint, only annoying thing is you have to keep reapplying.

OneDayWhenIGrowUp · 21/09/2014 13:27

Lol it's all so confusing. I'd have called this dress turquoise (bought it in a shop) until I saw what they'd described it as online! Ah well I got compliments on it :-) it's all a learning curve!

SorrelForbes · 21/09/2014 19:01

MrPop After trying on in excess of 40 pairs (and getting very hot and bothered in the process) I settled on two pairs by Frame:

Le Garcon, Slouchy Skinny

Le Garcon Boyfriend.

Totally not worth the money but I am determined to throw/give away all my other jeans (none of which are right) and get good value cost per wear if it kills me!

My main problem with jeans is that everything is tight on my inner thighs which are, IMO, out of proportion with the rest of me! However, If I size up to allow room on the thigh, anything above a 28 looks baggy at the waist, hips and crotch. I tried on so many pairs of jeans yesterday (mostly boyfriend or straight leg as real skinnies tend to make me look like a sausage stuffed in too small a skin) and pretty much hated the lot. Boyfriend jeans look like skinnies on me (on the thighs) so I never achieve that nice slouchy look.

Anyway, the black jeans are meant to be boyfriend style but look like tight skinnies on me. They are however, very flattering and will be good for nights out. However, I should have sized down as they feel less tight today. Not surprising seeing how sticky I was yesterday! I wore the faded ones today and they are very nice, good fit and flattering but still not 100% perfect IFKWIM?

Sorry, jeans angst rant over Blush

QueenCardigan · 21/09/2014 19:09

40 pairs Shock. I would have lost the will to live after 4! I'm so lazy I just buy gap jeans as I know they fit but I'm determined this winter to branch out and have a try on elsewhere although I bet I don't.

Sounds like we're all uninspired by this weather. As I've put my vests/she'll tops away I have about 4 tops on rotation. One is totally faded now and needs a dye job so doesn't look great and the others I'm just so bored of that I never feel good. I've got a couple of 3/4 length sleeve blouses I've been wearing and it nice to finally wear a cardigan in the mornings!

MrPop · 21/09/2014 19:22

Ooh I like the look of those jeans.

I have actually tried a couple of pairs of frame jeans myself - le high straight (good price) but they were too tight on me the denim was quite thick and non stretchy feeling.

I also tried 'le garcon' when they were on sale at nap but found the waist too large and the legs too tight. The denim was v stretchy on the ones I tried and I prefer to be held in a bit.
