Clink Wine. I'll go to Putney again tomorrow to get my little fix of "home". I walk or drive past whenever I can Sad. I know we did the right thing though. We are literally only three bus stops away but the air is different. Even when I go up to "big London" I still get off at Putney Bridge, clatter over the little iron bridge (always makes me smile on MNet when I think that I used almost to live under a bridge) turn right and meander up to the bus stop on the High Street.

Having said that, apart from the Caff, all our local eateries have closed: Cafe Rouge, Frankies, Tootsies Sad.

Stropperella · 28/05/2014 21:03

Yes, lots of the prosecco at the moment is dreadful over-sulphured old gack, sold at three times the price it should be. It is about now that I can trot out my treasured old anecdote about when I was working for a specialist Italian wine importer and none of the customers wanted to buy prosecco because it wasn't French. Italian wines hadn't quite caught on. Ahhh, the fab parties we used to have. I once bathed in prosecco and ice cubes.

Eh, that was prob tmi.

Stropperella · 28/05/2014 21:05

Oh, I remember that Cafe Rouge well, Windy. Spent many a hung-over morning there. Grin

QueenQueenie · 28/05/2014 21:10

Wasn't it terribly... sticky?

Stropperella · 28/05/2014 21:14

I only remember the ice cubes - they proved to be a hugely bad plan.

NearTheWindymill · 28/05/2014 21:19

What a waste Shock. How come I've never done anything like that in all my years in Putney? Oh, we were probably the straight sloaney couple you took the piss out of from across the restaurant Grin

Stropperella · 28/05/2014 21:34

Windy, rest assured I never took the piss out of anyone - I was far too busy being disreputable and more than a little unhinged. Grin I think it is generally a good thing that I realised at an early stage that my dream of making a career in the wine trade was as bad a plan as the ice cubes in the prosecco bath. Grin

Stropperella · 28/05/2014 21:36

(have now come over all sensible and middle-aged and moved on to the chamomile tea)

Stropperella · 28/05/2014 21:41

I remember being aware that my university peers were sensibly being engineers and accountants and getting mortgages and I, er, very much wasn't. I do wish I could have been sensible, but even now I have to admit that it's still not me. I am rather ashamed about not being sensible, but I just can't help myself, dammit. Life would be so much easier if I could.

Stropperella · 28/05/2014 21:42

(apart from the sensible move to chamomile tea, obvs)

Hope the fizz is flowing with MI et famille ...

lalsy · 28/05/2014 22:02

Yet again going straight to the main point, addle and Stropps, you are on the money about cava/prosecco/cremant de thing (Limoux/Bourgogne? think I like both).

cremolafoam · 28/05/2014 22:12

Yy to cremant ( personally like cremant de Loire but I'm not that picky ) m&s used to do a Frizzante which was light and bubbly and delicious . Love cava too but not a fan of oakiness so loathe actual champagne , unless mixed with Guinness into Black Velvet.
< right weirdo emoticon >

Wine
Stropperella · 28/05/2014 22:14

Gosh, yes, lalsy, I had forgotten all about Blanquette de Limoux. Mmmm, I may have to go and have a rummage around somewhere other than a supermarket for that.

And er, I'm not sure I should point this out, but the prosecco "bathwater" was er, drunk. By other people. (good parties, I tell you)

Stropperella · 28/05/2014 22:14

Mmmmm, Black Velvet.

cremolafoam · 28/05/2014 22:15

oh look! vv nice

Stropperella · 28/05/2014 22:20

Ahh, I had an unfortunate incident involving Pinot Grigio aka Ruländer in its German incarnation. I can no longer savour the delights of said grape without feeling a teensy bit .. unwell.

SheherazadeSchadenfreude · 28/05/2014 22:31

Mmm, fizzy wine.

Stropps, you had a wild and mis-spent yoof, clearly! I won't relate my Cava story on here as it is much too rude. We used to drink a perfectly good Cremant in Paris, bought in the local supermarket for 5 euros a bottle. One of the (very few) things I miss about Paris (the other being the sexy man who sold me cheese, and the third being my salary).

DD2 is being a complete and utter PITA today. We went out for lunch with my second cousin, and two of her third cousins, and she was monosyllabic and rude. I told her off afterwards, and told her to go home, she cried, said she couldn't open the front door and fell asleep on my office floor.

Stropps scanned thread (bit pissed) I loves you... Lots you make me Grin Grin bathing in bubbles hey Grin

Blackduck · 28/05/2014 22:45

and I know there is Beachy's in a field thing, but is there no possibility of a crepeys weekend thing?

CointreauVersial · 28/05/2014 23:00

Blimey, BD, have you been on the sauce as well this evening?

Thank God the conversation has moved on from dental hygienists. I'm afraid I've only visited a hygienist once in 47 years, and I thought a teepee was what a native American lived in. Blush

Thorpe Park wasn't too bad today - fairly quiet because obviously only a fool would visit on such a miserable day. We arrived before the gates opened, and 30 minutes in we had already ticked off all the big rides. I sensibly swerved anything that involved water.

Auriga · 28/05/2014 23:16

Beachy I'm sorry we will not make the campfest (which, incidentally, iPad wants to change to 'dampest'). The overseas trainee we're hosting has a busy schedule & has to be delivered, fetched, fed and generally facilitated.

I also have to sing at a wedding on the Sat (which is going to be lovely, I'm not complaining). But you've inspired us to think seriously about camping again and it sounds an excellent way of getting a bunch of friends together.

Conversation seems unusually alcohol-themed for a Wednesday. Is it somebody's birthday?

NearTheWindymill · 28/05/2014 23:38

I think a meet-up would be grand. DH is away from end of June until the midddle of July. Including my birthday and our anniversary.

Stropperella · 28/05/2014 23:45

My fault, I think, Auriga Blush
Ah, MrsS, Cremant @ 5 euros. Mmmm.
Bd, mind you have a pint of water before bed Grin
I have to be up bright and early tomorrow to go to a water "fun" centre with 3 friends and many small boys. I am not sure my "normal" swimming costume still fits and may have to wear my channel swimmer-stylee one that makes me look like a black pudding. Ah well.

herbaceous · 29/05/2014 07:05

I too cannot make BeachyFest, as not only have a canvas-intolerant - and antisocial, DP, but also have every other event in the year happening that day: school fair, which I'm helping to run, choir concert, DP's birthday and a good friends 50th birthday.

Gearing up for Harrogate. DS woke me up at 6.30, so I decided to make the most of and dye my hair. This could be an error.
