Blimey we fairly tore through this one!

Rosebag · 12/06/2014 10:10

And back at you BD. I am amazed…we hail from the same square mile

Good news, lovely supportive crepesters: heartened by your sensible words on dd and her cooking, I bought a book in Oxfam, and she made a meal from it lat night. Quite tricky as the kitchen is a foreign land to her, but she did it in the end and was pleased with the result. So I silently toasted you all as I lay back afterwards on my new John Lewis garden lounger that tips you head lower than your feet, causing a pleasing rush of blood to the head. Cheap thrills.

hattymattie · 12/06/2014 10:31

Lalsy - it's great when they make the odd meal. DD1 had a yearning for a prawn curry and so made Jamie Oliver's for lunch on Saturday. I have bought her a student cookbook which is hidden in the back of my wardrobe.

addle · 12/06/2014 10:40

lovely top OPM - don't wear cardy with it though - is not too much skin at all, v classy

am v jealous of lalsy's lounger - when child always thought those floral printed double swingchairs - like this but much much more floral - were the height of glamour

Did somebody suggest "The Shape of Crepes to Come" as a thread title last time?

bigTillyMint · 12/06/2014 11:12

addle, I always wanted one when I was a child too!

Hatty, good titleSmile

QueenQueenie · 12/06/2014 11:12

I don't know Hatty... but I like it!

So I was out last night at this fundraising film screening event thingy (organising not guest) and afterwards there were drinks. I had two (2, II) small glasses of red wine, not on an empty stomach and this morning I feel like CRAP. How can that be fair.

Rosebag · 12/06/2014 11:16

Ok all you Birkie lovers…I have found the look of one that I like. But it seems unavailable any where…hope it's not discontinued. Amazon only have a size 4 and I need a 7.

here

Any ideas…can't seem to find any on the web….

Rosebag · 12/06/2014 11:18

AAArgh wrong one, hang on...

bigTillyMint · 12/06/2014 11:19

Rose, I have some like that but with an extra strap across the whole foot higher up on today! They are very comfy indeed. I have to have the extra strap as otherwise my foot would slip out and I would find it tiring walking (toes gripping!) I can't do those Scholl-type ones either.

Rosebag · 12/06/2014 11:19

try again

bigTillyMint · 12/06/2014 11:20

Mine are this style but white

bigTillyMint · 12/06/2014 11:20

x posts! They look comfy too!

bigTillyMint · 12/06/2014 11:21

And Rose, can you venture south of the river on the 27th? It's only just over the river and QQ and Herbs are N Londoners tooWink

herbaceous · 12/06/2014 11:39

Birkie tip, Rosebag, is go down a size. I'm usually a six, but buy a five in Birkenstocks. This may aid/hinder your searching.

lalsy · 12/06/2014 11:47

addle, I always wanted one too, still do, the lounger may well just be the start.....

Birkie lovers - I used to be one and I am now a fitflop convert. Much warmer (oddly) and bouncier, tho rarely in sales sadly.

herbaceous · 12/06/2014 11:57

I have fitflops too! Worth keeping an eye on FitFlops own site, as it has regular sales. I bloody love mine, though they're the non-toe-post type.

motherinferior · 12/06/2014 12:48

I have been helping a friend edit down her dissertation. I actually feel rather refreshed by this. It was genuinely useful.

originalpiratematerial · 12/06/2014 17:13

Thanks for encouraging comments about dress - I do like it. Otoh have no idea what is dress code for a book launch / anybody know? And if not a cardi with it, what should I go for if it's a tad cooler - it's an evening thing. And then there's the whole shoe conundrum argh.

motherinferior · 12/06/2014 17:57

A lot of people will be coming from work - I'd say look nice but not terrifyingly dressed up.Grin

What can I buy a refined Indian laydee, aka my mum, for her 79th birthday?

Rosebag · 12/06/2014 18:39

Mother last October was my mothers 80th. No one knows what to give the old folks now. In the end we collected photos of all the grandchildren ( there are 9) from over the years, and got them to write quotes about her which we included. We then had it bound in to a book to present to her. We used an internet uploading company...you probably have heard of these. You can manipulate everything artistically on the screen. Then it arrives by post as a book. She loved it. Dunno if it's the right sort of thing though...
Tilly I'm sorry! I would so love to but there's a problem with Fri nights, and it's a bit far, I'm afraid. Please have a drink for me.

Parents are definitely tricky to buy for the older they get - they are much less interested in "stuff", I find. Fortunately, DM is only in her sixties, so is still delighted with clothes, jewellery, scarves and so on. Or I have a sniff around her kitchen and make a note of things which need replacing (last year I gave her a fancy new salt-and-pepper grinder).

Lovely dress, OPM, as long as you can still wear a bra with it.

It has been a mighty peaceful week without DD1 - I'm astonished at how noticeable it is when one offspring is missing. DS has been at Lords all day today, so it has been even quieter.

CointreauVersial · 12/06/2014 19:24

Ace view, BD. The view over the fields from my garden table is somewhat ruined by the sight of a 12 foot trampoline and tumbledown shed.
