Blackduck · 29/05/2014 08:02

My erm somewhat inebriated state was due to loooong day including waiting over three (III 3) hours for dp to finish his meeting. Then drive home so hit new wine bar at 8.00 having not eaten since about midday - you can guess the rest Grin

Blackduck · 29/05/2014 08:52

My dentist and hygienist are both fab (and super rich like Cremos :) )

Hygienist is big on brushing and reckons if you get that right all the other stuff can go hang. She recommends either a very small headed toothbrush (and soft) or an electric - I bit the bullet (ha ha ) and got an electric half price in Boots. I don't want to have to have lots of injections and my gums scraped like my mum (sorry for bringing dentists up again...)

cremolafoam · 29/05/2014 09:45

Wot no hangover bd?Grin

Wonder how MI is getting on. Surely there must be wifi in skipton?

Am off to gp armed with questions at 10.15am
Confused

bigTillyMint · 29/05/2014 09:54

Good luck Cremo!

Seems I missed out on the dentists and fizz chat last night - was out with some friends which was lovely.

Rudy,I have the 16 year old dd who isn't really interested in anything but rather demure dresses !!

bigTillyMint · 29/05/2014 11:37

Rudy, does she need anything in particular? DD tends to go with friends/buys online but when we go together it is to find particular things so I can help her look. What annoys me is buying stuff that doesn't get worn, so I only buy her basics now!

If expedition unsuccessful Rudy can I direct you and dd to boohoo for little shift dresses and jackets

CointreauVersial · 29/05/2014 13:15

I struggle getting the DDs interested in anything formal clothing-wise.

DD1 is only interested in buying vile polyester crop tops and see-thru leggings, so I am on a constant quest to steer her towards slightly more sensible choices.

And DD2 hates clothes, and would wear the same outfit every day if she could (jeggings and a check shirt. Maybe a Gap hoody on top if it's chilly).

cremolafoam · 29/05/2014 13:19

Gp has confused me. She says exercise as much as possible ( groan) and A&E doc told me to rest it.
I've to stay on the heavy duty meds as long as needed. She has referred me to a physio( which may take up to a month to come to fruition) The A&E doc sent a letter ( which gp has not yet received) stressing the urgency of this.
Basically I got a 'suck it up' from the gp, and a print out about slipped discs off of the internet.
She says the pain may go away on its own as the squeezing on the nerve may end when the fluid leeching from the disc dries up. Wink
I am sore confused and feeling annoyed. I know she must see 150 bad backs a week but she wasn't very helpful.
Going to phone a chiropractor this afternoon. Have gleaned another 7 days of work at least. Can't go on like this.Sad

lalsy · 29/05/2014 14:40

Oh Crem, that is rubbish. Even if there is not much that can be done to help you now and she is right that it may resolve (I think this makes research into what works hard), I think the very least she should do is make you feel as supported and informed as possible about what might work, and some sympathy would not go amiss either. For someone in as much pain as you are to feel they have been given the brush-off is just awful (and unprofessional IMO). Hope you find someone else who can help or at least explain the situation properly - they can't both eb right about exercise. HAve some Flowers Cake

bigTillyMint · 29/05/2014 15:15

Totally agree with Lalsy. Poor you CremoSad Is there a chance that you could see a private physio/chiropractor/other professional? GP's are not specialists and there should be someone else with an ounce more nouse about it.

Rudy, DD is doing work experience in September - I guess I should be thinking about clothes too. Probably not very formal and smart as it is at a charity working with disadvantaged families, etc, but smarter than leggings I guess!

bigTillyMint · 29/05/2014 15:17

Cremo, that website looks good!

lalsy · 29/05/2014 15:21

Ergh, work experience clothes, nearly as bad as prom dress shopping.

Think part of the problem with bad lower back things is the cause is usually unidentifiable, it usually resolves, and poor evidence for lots of treatments - which is why GPs end up dealing with it (or not) as there isn't really a specialism/everyone disagrees. So it is frustrating for them and they let that show. I like my docs to admit the limits of their individual or collective knowledge.

Blimey, BD, have you been on the sauce as well this evening?

Thank God the conversation has moved on from dental hygienists. I'm afraid I've only visited a hygienist once in 47 years, and I thought a teepee was what a native American lived in. Blush

Thorpe Park wasn't too bad today - fairly quiet because obviously only a fool would visit on such a miserable day. We arrived before the gates opened, and 30 minutes in we had already ticked off all the big rides. I sensibly swerved anything that involved water.

Rosebag · 29/05/2014 16:54

crem that's awful but probably common occurrence when it comes to GPs. (I speak as the daughter of a GP). I have had one episode like yours a few years ago. The kindest and best input that I had was from the emergency doctor at the walk in centre. He explained the whole thing and why I needed Valium and codydramol ...not the same scenario as yours but some parallels. I really was flat on my back to begin with but mobilisation definitely helped. I am still vulnerable to my back going, but find that since wearing a magnet, attacks are short lived and less painful. Probably placebo but there you go. This will improve...either through cure or management. Nil desperandum.
Did internet clothes shopping with DD this morning. She has a long, far away school trip coming up and the kit list is threatening. It was worse than being in the shops as she was more able to abuse me when not in public :-/
Ah well, the sun is shining in our little village and I'm having a day to myself as DH has taken DD back to the smoke temporarily for a youth theatre extra rehearsal. Sitting in village tea shop with tea, cake and sun streaming in through the window. Trying to forget that Ddad is back in hospital. Here we go again.

cremolafoam · 29/05/2014 17:09

Yeh it probably is v common rose and lalsy.
I don't know what I was expecting- reassurance maybe, that I wasn't going to end up in a wheelchair and can never work again.Angry

Dd has finished Politics exam today( pretty good. , quoth she) so only one more to go!!! French.
Talking of kit lists I have so far bought a nosilife shirt for dd for Ghana. She needs similar type zip off trews as well and industrial strength sunblock a mossie net.Grin

CointreauVersial · 29/05/2014 18:02

How very odd, yesterday's post has randomly re-posted itself. Confused

lalsy · 29/05/2014 18:12

Crem, of course you did, and empathy, consistent advice that makes sense, and the chance to ask questions and feel listened to - none of that should be too much to ask (in the absence of treatments that definitely work). I had a couple of miscarriages (again, something that medical science cannot offer much to help with) and found some docs brilliant, happy to talk about latest research, to chat, reassure etc, and others seemed to feel that because they couldn't give me a pill to make it better, they had better be unhelpful in every other way as well. I hope the pain meds keep doing their stuff and you get some sleep.

Threatening kit list - Grin we've had a few of them. String always features. Never know why.

cremolafoam · 29/05/2014 18:30

Cv I thought id already read thatGrin
But then doubted myself and assumed I had developed second sight ( I see old posts...)

Thanks lalsy. And sorry to hear about your previous sadnesses.
Sister is phoning her sil who is a physio.

lalsy · 29/05/2014 19:04

I did too but glad to hear I am not getting second sight about other people's dental hygienists Smile.

SheherazadeSchadenfreude · 29/05/2014 19:24

Crem, an osteopath sorted me out when I had a slipped disc. I went to the British School of Osteopathy, had two students ask me 101 questions, give their verdict to the teacher, who disagreed, poked me in the side, I shot through the roof and yelled. She manipulated me quite a bit, the two students then carried on. I left there upright and in considerably less pain.

NearTheWindymill · 29/05/2014 21:01

How are you today though Crem? Is it any better at all?

Have just watched food inspectors. I see little Chris Hollins in Waitrose regularly. I shall inspect his basket very carefully from now on Grin.
