Are you a winter colouring? If so come and join us for chat about clothes/make up following on from part 1 here and part 2 here

Do you want to know more about what a winter is? These resources are good places to start here and here.

Scared to try bright lipstick? Previous winter favourite makeup items include Mac Plumful, Revlon Lip Butters in Berry Smoothie and Red Velvet and Revlon gloss in Bordeaux. They are all good places to start without being scarily bright for a newly diagnosed winter. More makeup tips can be found here and by reading through previous threads.

The only ones I could find last summer were black, but I agree they can look heavy as a summer shoe. It does depend on how wide the straps are and if they have a heavy black sole. I have an old navy pair that are well past their best, but they work with my colours. I don't think white looks good on me as I have grey/white legs, so I avoid that colour. I miss the beige/tan sandals I wore to death a few years ago, as well. Maybe there will be some icy colours around if we all look hard enough? Very pale blue or green would be lovely.

QueenCadbury · 11/04/2014 13:10

witchy I bought white saltwater sandals last year and found them really versatile. I have some silver sandals for going out which I love too. I'd love some navy sandals. Otherwise how about trying to find stone or mole or a more taupe shade of brown?

SorrelForbes · 11/04/2014 13:15

I have some silver Nine West sandals and I'm on the look out for some navy/white ones.

Witchywitch · 11/04/2014 13:40

Thanks all, will keep my eyes peeled for mole, navy or silver. White I think would be too much for me as my skin is practically white!

MrPop · 11/04/2014 16:42

Hello winters, some lovely links here. Sandals wise I have quite a few, mostly black, also blue and a pair of yellow (! pre diagnosis) Saltwater sandals - I love them though so won't get rid. I kind of feel that your feet are so far from your face it doesn't matter so much. I am planning to get a pair of white birkenstock - fashion victim alert.

MissU sorry you are finding the colours restrictive - do you like the winter colours? I am quite a prolific shopper so I need the restrictions!

I thought perhaps we could mention our outfits on here as 'inspiration' for colours / what to put together. I am not really inspiring today in black trousers, black and white polka dot shirt, black and white cardigan and silver skate shoes. I was wearing a pink and purple tapestry coat when I left the house in the morning but it is far too hot for that now!

Betty thanks for mentioning the moxie lipsticks - I have a bare minerals code so may put that to good use. Has anyone tried their BB cream and if so, is it any good? That was the other thing I was considering.

SorrelForbes · 11/04/2014 18:33

Today I'm wearing black Gap High Rise Skinnies rolled up to ankle length, a long black vest under a red Uniqlo cashmere crew neck jumper and white Converse Dance.

FaceDirectionOfTravel · 11/04/2014 19:19

Those two outfits sound great, thanks for sharing. Silver and white shoes, mmmm.

I'm in black tights, black boots, black tube skirt, purple top (linked earlier) and black crew neck cardi. Not brilliant but okay.

Sandals, I think I'll get black, white and navy. I particularly like
these navy sandals. I think they'd look nice with all sorts.

SorrelForbes · 11/04/2014 19:21

MrPop I'm partial to a polka dot so like the sound of our outfit.

FaceDirectionOfTravel I'm being umming and ahhhing over buying a tube skirt but I think I've left it too late now with Spring approaching! Those sandals are lovely.

SorrelForbes · 11/04/2014 19:22

These are my silver sandals.

SorrelForbes · 11/04/2014 19:24

In bright pink here in leather, if you're a 3!

and here in silver leather in a US 6.

QueenCadbury · 11/04/2014 20:37

I'm now in my pjs but I was wearing rolled up jeans, navy ballet flats, navy with white spots blouse and Boden lagoon blue cardi.

pinkflaming0 · 12/04/2014 16:50

Re. sandals - how about these? I've just ordered them - depends a bit what shade 'mink' turns out to be but I like a low wedge as opposed to totally flat so live in hope.

Also, ordered these in navy liked but had to return for a bigger size so waiting to see if they fit.

Today I bought Revlon lip butters in Berry Smoothie (as recommended) and Sorbet (a raspberry/fuchsia shade) this one looks a bit very scary in the tube but is more subtle on. Revlon is 3 for 2 in Boots at the moment. Think that's me sorted for lipsticks for the time being.

Today I am wearing light grey skinny mini khakis and navy with off white stripe fine knit jumper both Gap Tall, grey belt, navy suede and silver bracelet and navy Converse inherited from elder son who now has feet bigger than mine (where's my baby gone?). Brightness is coming from HoC burgundy lipstick that is really more a deep raspberry in my opinion.

FaceDirectionOfTravel · 12/04/2014 17:10

I'm wearing black M&S highwaisted skinnies (I tried rolling them up but got cold ankles, I am a wuss!), white Primark tee, pink cardigan linked to earlier, and these incredibly comfortable blue/grey shoes.

And Revlon Raspberry Pie lippie, love it.

SorrelForbes · 12/04/2014 17:36

I don't need some more lipsticks for the Spring and Summer so will check out those Revlon recommendations.

Pink This is labelled as hot pink and looks similar to my cerise swatch. Could be too coral? There's only S and L in stock and I'd usually order a M. The price is great though so very tempted to order both to try!

pinkflaming0 · 12/04/2014 20:50

Ooh Face I was after Revlon Raspberry Pie but they didn't stock it - one for the future I think. Raspberry is one of my favourite colours.

Sorrel that does look like it might be a but corally (is that a word??).

Does anyone know which of the Kettlewell colours is closest to HoC burgundy? It's a ** for me but can't find anything that shade. Am not generally a fan of the Kettlewell styles but maybe if there's a vest top in the right shade it could be worth a try?

SorrelForbes · 12/04/2014 21:06

pinkflaming0 I think you're right but I ordered anyway as the price was so good for silk. I love my trips to the Post Office to return my on-line shopping mistakes Grin

Deep Claret possibly?

VenusDeWillendorf · 12/04/2014 21:11

Hi all!
Been lurking for a while and really have learned a lot :)
I've a question though. While I look best in fushia, emerald green, teal and forest green, navy, ice pink, white and red, black and charcoal, I've got green eyes with amber stars and they can look quite hazelish. They have a blue outside line.

My skin and hair change colour when I've been on holiday, i fo quite brown, and my hair lightens. and then I also look quite ok in corals, daffodil yellow and light blue and mauve.

Am I a true winter, or a dark summer do you think? I can't wear brown / tan at all, and I haven't very much any real red in my hair- eyebrows and lashes are black.

Don't have the 100£ for a consult at the moment.

Thanks!

pinkflaming0 · 12/04/2014 21:28

Sorrel - yes, I wondered Deep Claret or possibly Raspberry as the HoC burgundy isn't as dark as I would normally call burgundy. Hard to tell comparing a fabric swatch to a computer screen!

Venus your eyes sound a quite a similar colour to mine - mine are a sludgy green with amber stars. I tan quite easily but my hair is very dark brown and never lightens (except for the white hairs I'm getting these days!) even in the sun.

I look awful in coral or yellow though.

I was unsure about my winter diagnosis from years back and was redone recently - came out as a burnished winter which means the darker and less bright winter colours suit me best. It was a revelation and now I'm totally bought into being a winter.

SorrelForbes · 12/04/2014 21:35

pinkflaming0 Oh dear, I knew it was dangerous to visit the Kettlewell site on a Saturday night with DH away and a G&T by my side as I've now ordered the longer length vest in Iced Aqua. I may have also ordered two new lipsticks on the HoC site Blush

Let me know if you order the DC or Raspberry as Burgundy is one of my ** colours too (I'm a Jewel Winter though but I guess they sub categories cross over a bit?)

SorrelForbes · 12/04/2014 21:37

Venus I look ghastly in teal, forest green, corals, daffodil yellow, light blue and mauve. I suspect you may not be a Winter but I'm a novice!

QueenCadbury · 12/04/2014 21:49

Hi venus if daffodil, mauve etc suit you then I'm guessing you're not a winter although you may be a sprinter winter like me possibly? My hair lightens in the sun but it turns white blonde rather than golden tones and although I tan the colours I wear are still the best for me.

My beloved Funtime fuschia nail polish has gone a bit gloopy so I've I've bought don't be shy as a replacement. I also bought as you want Victoria lipstick. It's very bright!

Maisie0 · 13/04/2014 00:27

Hello. I am a Winter too. But what is the "HOC" winter?
Am intrigued and excited to follow this dedicated thread. :)

QueenCadbury · 13/04/2014 08:15

Hi masie, hoc is house of colour who most of us were diagnosed with. Welcome on board. What are your best/favourite colours from the palette? Any recent purchases you can tempt us with?

Chocchip88 · 13/04/2014 08:45

I got my colours done my Colour Me Beautiful last year. I came out as clear and cool, is that a winter?
Hope so as I can follow your thread then!

SorrelForbes · 13/04/2014 08:51

Chocchip88 Here is a conversion chart and yes, it seems that you are a Winter. Welcome Grin
